Over the years I have used Avira and Bitdefender with no problems.  Must remember though to tweak the settings to the max once installed, set it to update as often as it will allow and tweak all other settings to the max so it catches more stuff, rootkits, malware, phishing, spyware, keyloggers and of course viruses.  Even then, the bad guys are always 2-3 weeks ahead of the security software companies.

I've always just used Norton. Got 360 now. Never had a problem as far as I know. I'm not a tech guy though.

I recommend you to try ESET. I've been using it for 3 years and never have a problem. Bitdefender is good also

I used to use AVG but had a few problems and switched to Avast.  Seems OK but they do keep trying to get me to upgrade.  Using Linux was my favourite solution but some windows programs don't work properly on that.

Never used an antivirus. I use a computer since 1982 and I never get a virus.
The best antivirus is to not install nothing you are not sure and don't open any mail you cannot 100% trust.

Just use what Niakris calls "common sense".

I am always super careful but you can't always avoid exposure. For example I was went on to a client's website and it had been hacked and tried to download a virus onto my computer. Of course it was blcoked by my antivirus. You wouldn't even know if you had a virus or bot without some sort of antivirus.

That is very risky. When using Google image search, I have been led occasionally to sites that dump viruses/malware. Norton has warned me not to go there. Absent those Norton warnings I would have been vulnerable.

I have been using Norton and now Norton 360 to be specific. But, I find a few names that I am not familiar with. Could the few who use non-Norton products let us know what are some of the advantages / plus points of using these non-Norton products ? Thanks !

I think the main selling point of some of the others is that they are free. Norton seems to do the job fine and I am lazy.

If you run windows, why not using the free antivirus that comes with it: Microsoft Security Essentials or Windows Defender (for W10)?

Thanks Zero Talent ! I will consider this as my Norton 360 will expire in a couple of months !

Oh, maybe I have forgotten to say that I have always used a Mac.
Virus are arriving on OsX too, but very very slowly.

using a Linux system (with proper permissions settings). No anti-virus stuff needed for that. All tools for photo and video processing available, too -- usually for free! Probably not the answer you were looking for, but it has worked for me for 18 or 19 years now.

Nice and funny advice. That put a smile on my face!

Thanks I was hoping it would help get the honest message through.

I'm on Windows 10 and only use windows defender. Recently I started using Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit, it's just a plugin for Chrome. Some other extensions that I also use: Ghostery, uBlock, HTTPS everywhere. Never had any problems. Then again, I don't install crap.

I guess this is how there are thousands of computers being unknowingly used in bot nets for all sorts of criminal activity.
