Im looking for people that knew my father and would like to find out what impression he left on people.

I didn't exactly know him, but came across his posts in various forums. I got the impression that he was a "tell it like it is" kind of person. Some thought he was cranky and outspoken, but typically those are exactly the type of people you learn from. They don't coddle you or do your work for you...

I have read many posts by many people who thought very highly of him. I have read many posts by many people who thought he was a grumpy old man. I figure he was somewhere in between and some of both. From his posts, I got the impression he was very knowledgeable in the photography field and I wish I would have gotten to know him better.

I knew him - or more aptly, of him - only through this forum. I occasionally bumped into his work on-line, which was distinctive and easily recognizable. I remember that he liked to share his knowledge by posting tutorials here, but he always seemed to have a rather caustic way of saying things in his forum postings. He once said he was a retired penitentiary guard, which kind of explained things in my eye.

I'm sure Todd Arena knew him best of anyone here - you might want to try contacting him through his website.

I knew him through his participation on the Shutterstock forum. His ejection from that site came not a moment too soon.

He was a bit naughty at times and managed to upset some people but I found him hilarious. I think that the Miz more than anybody was responisble for me ruining my keyboard by spitting coffee onto it

He is certainly missed by a lot of people.

Yeah - Todd and I talked to him pretty much daily for the last year or two of his life. Miz was crusty and cantankerous. He was either loved or hated depending on who you talked to. He loved to argue and provoke people as well as teach and share what he knew. He was a pretty smart dude who enjoyed the spotlight of being "the grumpy old man." lol I hope that helps - if this post is serious.

Only knew him thru MSG and the exchange a few emails off site. I enjoyed his sense of humor immensely. He was always willing to give freely of his knowledge and took the time to provide many tutorials for the up and coming.
On many a 'bad' day, my trip to MSG and the reading of his comments made me forget what was so bad about it. -tom

You'd have to be seriously sick in the head to be writing the OP's posts if otherwise. Unfortunately that may well be the case as RJM was reported to have no heirs.

I first "met" the MIZ on Dreamstime forum where he was extremely helpful and informative. He was also funny and I instantly liked him. Then I found him on this forum and then on his personal website. He was responsible for giving me the courage and determination to get involved in microstock. I never thought of him as a cranky old man but he was outspoken and agitated people, but I found that entertaining and liked him even more. I wished I had had the opportunity to meet him and tell him how much he inspired me. I miss him.

That's what I thought, too.
She visited here once before, saying she couldn't believe that people were saying nice things about him. She also said something very disparaging, which stuck in my head and I won't repeat.

Welcome to the forum. I remember your father very well.

His posts were sometimes helpful, sometimes cranky, but always very entertaining. I got the impression he knew his stuff photographically and enjoyed sharing that knowledge, but did not suffer fools. He seemed to enjoy challenging people and often played "devil's advocate".

I always looked forward to his posts. He was never ever dull

I can say that I learnt a lot from his tutorials. I didn't know what masking was before I saw one of them. It seems to me he was always intentionally stirring the forum, not in an evil way, but to provoke discussions.

Oh dear.

My dad was always a "hard ass". Never really laughed that much. Worked his butt off to support us 8 kids. Went to work, came home, slept, maybe watched TV for an hour, went to bed. Got up, went to work, repeat. It's not that I have bad memories of him at all. But I must say I was quite surprised and impressed at the number of people who came to his funeral to pay their respects. They waited in line, out the front door of the funeral home, and around the other side of the building, for over an hour to see him one last time. My point is, sometimes people relate to their family differently than they do with friends and co-workers. I never would have, in a million years, figured my dad for that well-liked kind of guy, based on my interaction with him at home.

Maybe TheBabyMiz is having a similar experience, and trying to reconcile her relationship with him.

I first came across "The MIZ" posts here on MSG a couple of years ago when I was first started in Microstock. I found his "Moody" fine art style of photos to be absolutely amazing and very inspirational. He and I exchanged a few personal messages here on the forum and I became a member of his site where I learned alot through many of his tutorials.

He was always very helpful and always willing to share his knowledge. Without asking anything in return.

I very much identified with his rogue and candid spirit. He could stand toe-to-toe with the best of anyone in just about any argument often taking either side just to get a rise out of people. The man was truly hilarious and often referred to himself as "The Cranky Miz."

My condolences for the loss of your father. He is missed by many ...

i went to go live with my father when i was 15. he was...hard to live with to say the least. but then again i am my fathers daughter so therefore i wasnt exactly an ANGEL either. he was one of the MOST INTELLIGENT people ive EVER met!!!! he loved trivia and quirky facts that no one knew about. i remember he asked me what was the only word in the english language that started with 'und' and ended with 'und' and i couldnt use the internet to find the answers. he tried teaching me photoshop but i just wasnt interested. my favorite memories of him are friendly's ice cream and one fight we had where he asked me if i thought i was smarter than him and i replied "yes, i KNOW im smarter than you. but dont worry dad, i know i too will get dumber with age!!" hahahhaa

he has two daughters....im not that one. shes my older sister and we have different feelings about him. she is a wonderful woman and i love her dearly. my father and her relationship has nothing to do with my relationship with her and vice versa
