Specifically I need to send a font to the printer but Outlook won't let me attach, I tried from a different e-mail program and same thing - it looks like it is actually a Windows update thing.

It seems that when I got a new harddrive I lost Winzip. I thought that was a free program, apparantly I have to purchase a new copy?

Would I even be able zip the font and e-mail it?

Anyone have an answer for me?  I've dwelled on this for a couple hours now.  Maybe I'll have to do it the old fashioned way and get a disk to them.

My first thought was to zip it. There's gotta be a free/trial version of winzip it somewhere? It will also preserve the integrity of the font file if you zip it first before emailing.

or don't use Outlook. Do you have a webmail account (gmail, hotmail, etc) you can use instead? oops..scratch that, I just re-read your post

Yes Winzip most of the time masks the "unsafe" warning. Just wrap it into a zipped file and email. Changing your file extension might help too (your recipient should set it back to the original). Winzip is free in its demo version. That's all you need.

It's two step process:

1. Change extension to something like .e_x_t (some av software check even inside zip files)
2. Archive it (zip, rar or similar)

Send archive as atachement.

I often "pass security" by just changing 1 letter of the extension, and then tell the recipient to change it back into the original one.

It sure is nice to be able to come to a photography forum and get such quick answers.  Thanks guys, Flemish I downloaded trial version. Guess I'll have to cough up some $ and buy a full copy soon.  One of those little used programs that everyone needs.   I e-mailed the zip, hopefully I did it okay and that is the last of it.

I use Zipgenius, it's free and so far I never had a problem of compatibility with Winzip.

If you're running Windows XP it has zip and unzip functionality included...  it calls it "Compressed Folders" but it's the same thing.

Select the file, right-click and choose "Send to/Compressed Folder".
