The last few weeks I have spent far more time defending myself from attacks than I have in multiple years at MSG.  I knew that as soon as I started the collective, I would become a target.  I didn't think it would get so personal, but that was probably me being a Pollyanna.

The MSG forums have unfortunately become a haven for complaining...complaining about reviewers, complaining about other contributors, complaining about agencies...  I see fewer and fewer posts where contributors are helping each other, or saying anything positive.

I won't be participating on the forums any longer.  There is still value to be had in Tyler's excellent blog, and I hope to participate there.  For those of you who still wish to keep in contact, please do so through email.

That's a shame to hear. Hopefully, you'll still pop in from time to time. I definitely get sick of it and pull away for a while, but I think there is still good information to be shared here.

I can see your point Dan but your decision would be a loss to the site. Think about it for a few days.

Yeah, well, once you get into your position, you pretty much become a sitting target for all sorts of weird things and abuse and it does get personal, unfortuantely.

You are doing the right things and the timing is pefect! there are many classic examples throughout the years. Hang in there! be selective. In a few years time most of the others will have killed off themselves.

As far as this forum? I think most of it is frustrations, if anything.

speak to you later.  Chris

It's a shame that MSG loses someone that's doing something really good but I wouldn't want to be here constantly defending myself against a few people that should find something better to do.  In an open forum, there are always going to be some people that get really annoying without going so far that they should be banned.  I don't think anything can be done to change that without spoiling the freedom we have to express ourselves here.

I feel the same way. And I agree with Christian that the negativity is mostly out of frustration. It doesn't excuse the bad manners or name calling or foul mouths, because bad behavior is just that. Everyone needs to take a step away now and again.

I also hope Dan changes his mind, but I certainly understand how he feels.

It will be a shame if you leave here Dan because of people objecting to you doing something positive.

Yes, I agree very much.

I completely support what you are doing at Warmpicture Dan, and I think it is a testimony to it's potential that a few who have not been accepted are so irate about it.

MSG is such an important resource for the industry, though.  Your participation is a valuable part of it.  I certainly sympathize with your feelings, but I hope you will reconsider your decision.

Thats exactly why Dan will succeed in his venture!  being selective!  and NOT accepting any mediocre stuff, God knows all the others are bursting from just that. I am not saying Warmpicture.com, should be a snobbish little club but technical merit should be far from enough.

The timing is perfect and believe me, there are many, many buyers who welcome this, saving to having to wade through tons of irrelevant material. History will show, Stones and Image-bank, did that and they grew massive and quickly became the AD-agencies darlings.

So we keep at it.
