I rented a 70-200 F2.8VR for the weekend and it has suddenly stopped responding to my D80. :'( I switched back to the kit lens and it works fine. Any ideas?

Sometimes there are little switches on the lens itself? I know my 70-300 sigma has a macro switch? What were your camera settings when it stopped?

I just tried again. I started taking some shots manually and suddenly it started working again. Seems a little tempermental. (good thing its a rental)

If I have my AF-S on in a manual setting and it can't find the sweet spot, it won't work?

???  I have a 18-200 vr on order but I've been having second thoughts after reading more reviews.  Let me know how you make out with that lens as it is my second choice after I mortgage the house. heheh.

I just ordered the 18-200VR also. I thought the reviews have been very positive.
