Someone sent me a lovely email this morning calling me a scrub, strike breaker and that I don't have to worry about my pics making it to Google since they suck anyway. I a have a personal website and they most likely found it on the internet. Also put down my models whom are my family. I know 99% of the folks here are great people but I am going to stay low for a while (could have been anyone reading this site or other sites) - The last thing I need is threats- enough is enough.

Hope the iStock situation gets better- either they fold or come to their senses.

Tom

Lay low?!?!?! I am sorry you got a nasty email, but hiding from an internet  bully? Come one. Its not a threat either, its just childish. Dont let that get to you, ignore them. By posting here you feed them, they thrive on that. Ignore the bastid and just keep on keeping on.

I had nasty emails a while back from someone who posted on here regularly, under a pseudonym, and who either doesn't post here now or has changed their user name.
Don't worry about them. Hell mend 'em.

I'd prefer that iStock would come to their senses. I don't want to join any of the 'sell 'em cheap' merchants. But I'm not holding my breath.

That sucks. These people need to get a life. Sorry you had to put up with that bs.

I have learned by dealing with this kind of stuff in real life, that those varmints dont thrive in the light.

So expose everything.
Put the email up.
Say who you are and what has happened, and post it for everyone to see and judge.

or not.
Burry it.
Emails not clicked on, do not excist.
and then again, you might want to ask questions.

I'm sorry to hear this too.  It's not in the spirit of MSG.  This is a place to share views and experiences, not to run a dictatorship.  The only person who owns this forum is Leaf (Tyler) and he's about as far from a dictator as a person can be.

Don't hide yourself away, just let it be as water off a duck's back.

No need for that is a civilized forum. Pass it on to Leaf to look at. No reason anyone should have to put up with that type of abuse.

Depending on the content of the Email I'd probably ban them out of hand.

Families are off limits..

Ditto to you and all the other nice people who encouraged me last time to stay/ come back. Rotten apples are everywhere and the faceless cover-up pseudo name types stinks the most. Just throw them out (and if you do not mind what might get stuck under your shoe, step on them) and move on. I like having you here Tom.

Simple fix is to report them to the proper authorities.

In the States any form of harassment or threat that is delivered electronically is in serious deep chit!!!!!!!

Quote
Transmitting threatening messages via e-mail is a federal crime in the United States and carries a penalty of imprisonment of up to five years or a fine, or both.

Quote
18 U.S.C. 875(c) states: "Whoever transmits in interstate or foreign commerce any    communication containing any threat to kidnap any person or any  threat to injure the person of another, shall be fined under this  title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both."

If anyone ever gets a nasty personal message through this site, please report it.  It is not allowed and certainly not in the spirit of the community here.

As for getting nasty emails through regular emails.  I generally give such emails the respect they deserve.  I just press the delete key.  There is no point is responding as they'll love that and write up a response with double the poison.  A person who slings insults in an email for really, no reason, has problems - don't let them be one of yours.

Somewhat OT but one of the funniest conversations I ever heard was between a former police colonel who was working as a reporter for me and someone who rang up to threaten him. I only heard one side and it went roughly like this:
"Is that a death threat?"
"Can I have your name please?"
"Really, I must insist on having your name"
"Listen, I simply can't accept death threats anonymously"
"It's not up to you, I can't accept it without a name. That's not how I work"
"I'm sorry, I'm simply not able to accept that unless you provide your name"
Caller hung up.

RIP Johnny Cabalero (it was a heart attack that got him in the end, not a hit-man).

I like that!

I don't see why anyone would be mad at someone who is sticking with iStock.  It's a difficult situation, and hard to know what is best to do.  Some people stand to lose more by bailing out.

As individuals, while taking the good of the whole into consideration, we still have to do what we think is going to be best for our own situation.  Good grief, we're Creatives, we don't herd.

I was called or sorts of things by a person on another forum that definitely had issues.  It did get to me at first but then I thought it's their problem, not mine.

Hope this is a one off but if they persist, just ignore them.

Sorry to hear that this has happened to you and even more so that they said personal things about your family which must have been hurtful.  Just ignore this childish behaviour. Nobody has the right to tell you how you should act.

Pure dumb. We may disagree here and I respectfully do my share, but finding someones personal information and emailing them is really over the line. I hope that you give the return address to Leaf (with full headers...) and he can handle the person's account(s) here.

Please. DO NOT take the text of the email personally.  There is a very loud message that is written between the lines and that is what you should take into your consideration.:  That email was written by a malicious coward and closet bully!  ;)

I recall the term "scrub" from a song a few years ago, but is that US slang? I'm not even sure what it means, though I can guess it's not a compliment.

Never heard of it, but here are some possibilities:

I would have assumed from the tone of the e-mail they meant "scab" but just got it wrong....

FWIW, "scab" is a term used to describe workers that come in during a strike and do the work of striking workers.   Doesn't apply here, of course, since we aren't a union and nobody's going on strike.

AFAIK "scrub"s are medical clothing... :-\

at least in Australia, a "scab" is also someone who never pays for anything and gets their friends to do the buying (shouting). Although it's an 80s term and I haven't heard it used in years.

there's also "scrubber" which is used here (and the UK I presume).

sorry Tom, to go OT.

If you ever find the idiot responsible Tom, donate a dictionary to him so that he at least can get his (or her) insults correct.  ::)
I am sure you are right Lisa - he/she (or most probably "it") clearly meant "scab". It is not all that bad Tom, I'll hire you  ;)

Just a quick reply,  yeah it was a slang in the US awhile back and yes it was in a song.  I hardly hear it anymore though.
