Fellow microstockers!

We thought some of you might be interested in this, so we decided to share it with you here on the MG forum - hope you don't mind

We're currently running a photo contest via our facebook fan-page. It is open for anyone to enter, so if you have some spare time, why don't you check it out?

Oh, and we got some comments about not everyone being on facebook etc - so next time around we'll launch it directly from the website instead. But for now, it is open and running.

The problem with these contests is it has nothing to do with the image and everything to do with how many people you can get to vote for your image. That's the real contest here.

Thanks for your input Mantis. Actually, there are two stages in this contest. Take a look...I am sure you will see it is not "all about the votes" after all.

Yeah, but you need the votes on the first half.
I get fed up of being on forums and random people I've never heard of signing up to beg people to vote for them on some sort of competition.
Good luck to anyone who enters. Never heard of the black magic cinema camera, so I guess I've learned something.

Also, just to clarify if the text is unclear: you actually do not need to get any votes in the first part at all, and you still have a chance to win. It is not the photo with the most votes that wins. Votes only increase your chances of winning since the winner of stage 1 is selected by a random drawing. Also, stage 1 and stage 2 are completely independent of eachother, you only enter once for both - NO voting is involved in stage 2 whatsoever - it is decided by a jury with real people in it and it is the quality of photo itself that counts. Sorry to keep getting back to this, but I just felt it was important to clarify and respond to avoid further confusion. If you have any questions about this, I will keep checking in to respond. Maybe this is not so interesting for pure-breed photographers, since it is more aimed at the video-people, but I thought it would be of interest to some of you nonetheless. Oh, and yes - the 2.5k sensor with RAW video feed to disk is not a minor development...it is surprisingly easy to use, and depending on the model they come in EF or MFT mounts. A lot of people in the video community compare the development and launch of this camera to that of the 5dmk2 - making video production more accessible, with cinematic image quality and at a price point more people could afford. Hope that helps to clarify a little more.

So a smashing photo can be left behind by unluck of the draw, and utter drab can make it through by luck of the draw? Thats just silly

@Poncke - Yes and No I suppose - there are two Blackmagic Cameras in the pool, one is awarded by random drawing, and the other is awarded for the best photo to be decided by a jury of 5.

Having been someone behind running a contest before, it is a big challenge to try and please everyone - it's impossible I suppose. Also, I'd rather a company give something away to their fans while building up their social network than simply buying ads on facebook or google. It seems a much better (and funner) use of advertising dollars than text ads.
