It really doesn't matter too much if this treatment will be effective or not.  The fact is, society is not structured for extending the life expectancy.   In fact, with the life expectancy now reaching into the 80's there is mounting problems with retirement and how to pay for  those “extra” years. Hate to say it, but Capitalism doesn't need a bunch of happy old people setting around drinking mint juleps!  The argument that one would have to work longer before retirement also has problems due to automation and increased worker productivity, it is the younger workers who are raising a family and deserve the working positions.  High unemployment is the new reality.

If successful, this drug would be just another entitlement for the very rich due to the cost . . . the modern Aristocracy always gets what it wants.

I thought the problem with cells replacing themselves was the cloning issue. Each copy is more imperfect than the one it replaces.

People have been making this claim, and predicting the end is near, for centuries, and neither has been true. 

There are many variables and factors involved in aging and the chemicals don't prevent disease or injury, just aging, which we can do with a glass of red wine. So people will find little if no change, should this unsubstantiated claim happen to be true at all. Another way to look at it, is the only people who would benefit are the small percentage who die of "old age" and not some other cause.
