They've being around quite a bit as a 3D site, but have gotten into stock photos since August of last year (I think), they're fairly new to the market but I have really high hopes in this one, I'm uploading there every chance I get (480+ so far w/edit: 7 sales), easy to upload to, very helpful and friendly administration and you collect your commissions at the end of every month (60%), sales are not abundant yet, but they do sell...personally I'm very happy with 3Dstudio, Matt and his crew.

Personally I think my book group could design a better tax system than what we  have with the IRS but I doubt the powers that be would let that happen. Too many IRS folk would be in the unemployment line.

hear hear!  as the old saying goes, "public servants are not selected, they are inherited." that explains why all government agencies are totally out to lunch . then their the union. but we won't frustrate ourselves into discussing them.

I'll have to try it...I like the idea about getting paid for your sales at the end of every month so I wouldn't be stuck on a site with a little earnings waiting for payout.  I wish they would all start doing that.

m@m is correct, we've been around (year 14 now) in 3D for a while but stock is brand new as of late 2009 where our focus was mainly on finding contributors. 2010 is the year of customers and we've already had some good sales increases there but we, of course, still have a long way to go (and we will get there!).

Categories are being added to as we go, and we can add a category as needed. If anyone wants to suggest categories please let us know at [email protected] and we will try to add whatever makes sense. I think most people don't realize that we actually read our emails and act on them very quickly so don't be shy...I only ask that requests come in via email, not a forum post here (as I can't track them here as well).

It always surprises me when somebody mentions something about us that they wish other sites would do. Something as simply as paying every month with no minimums (via paypal) just seem obvious to me but I love hearing feedback like that. Really reminds me that we are doing this the right way.

I also love seeing all of the referral links and hope everyone that has a site, blog, facebook, twitter, etc is posting them there as well. Don't forget that you can get more affiliate links here...

http://www.the3dstudio.com/member_affiliate.aspx

...and they work for buyers and sellers! And, yes, we know that the above link needs a face lift, it's on our list :) For those running a site/blog we even provide RSS feeds and HTML search boxes that you can copy/paste to your site.

the idea of no min. payout monthly via PP is cool but not laudable.

i think most assume that a site would cheat on them and close shop before their payout point is reached.the paranoia of which i think is not justified, as we have already seen a few demises here that have also sent us our earnings after closing their doors.

still, i like the idea of being paid by cheque , so long as the payout point is realistic and practical.
realistic meaning not $100 like some site; practical being not $5 which is a bit too little to warrant the paperwork to write the cheque.  even $50 may still seem a bit unrealistic in some cases, esp when a site does not bring in the sales as often .
then again, who am i to say. i've reached payout where a site had $100 point in one, while still waiting for another to reach the lower payout point of $25.

all in all, i think really all i care is to see downloads regularly. this will at least be an indication that there is some sign of activity.

i also like the idea of you and Matt being open to ideas provided by contributors to "improve 3d studio's potential".  it shows  goodwill to be taken seriously  .
for that you've gone up  a few notches above some of the underperforming  Big 9
sites.
mind you, the fact that one dl from 3d studio = 10-15  subs from the Big 6 is something i won't  disregard either.

What stock site are you on that pays out at $25.00? All the ones I'm on payout at $50.00 or $100.00, no less. Unless one of my non performer's do.
Ass to the point of paying out per month, look at it this way, if you had 10 bucks sitting in 10 different accounts waiting for the 50 dollar mark...that adds up to 100 bucks. Then the risk of these companies going under with your 10 bucks that they won't pay back because of their agreement adds up. Many of the unknown stock sites do this.

edit: sorry that ass word was suppose to be As.

ok, now that i had a sip of my pint of Guinness, i have an "idea"...

what is the largest size for dl on 3 d studio.  i see that my largest is 4MP .

would it not be better for 3d studio to add XL, XXL, .. say 4MP, 6MP, 8MP , 10MP..
or even provide a "premium collection" .  not necessarily costing up equally, but giving the buyer who chooses anything larger than 4MP to get a bit of a discount for the XXL, or whatnot?

or is it because i have only been sending you what i sent Fotolia, so the largest in my port is 4MP.  i don't think so, because i remember giving you a couple 10MP downsized from Alamy too.

or was it my Guinness playing tricks on my eyes  :D

Perseus, you have to stop drinking so much beer bud! they do sale all different size photos (yes including 10.1MP):

XSmall 400x267= $2.00
Small 800x533= $4.00
Medium 1600x1067= $8.00
Large 3888x2592= $12.00
EL 3888x2592= $250

And I believe you can also set your own price as well, also I think the monthly payout is only by PP not by check, so you may want to research on that one too :P

- i can't remember. when i first joined microstock some less than 2 yrs ago, i got madly drunk and submitted to most every site on the list.  then after getting sobre, i am now down to only a handful that i check my status and maintained regular uploads. the rest, i write off as miscarriages  ;)

- good point. maybe i should change my payment plan with 3 d studio to PP. that could help me get back to having enough to buy a pint each month  :D

re: sizes above 4MP
good to know. then it must have been due to that the ones i see with only 4MP max are the ones from the batches  i uploaded to FT.
from hereon, i will now specifically make a 10MP for 3dstudio from my 17MP meant only for Alamy.

re: cheque payout
yes, i realised that. and i think i will chg it to PP , (see my answer to donding).

thx buddy nut inside sweet outside  ;D
i knew i had a resolution this year...  but i sort of misplaced it with my eggnog  ;D

I'd love to offer check payout under the $50 min we have now, but it's just not feasible when you consider the time and costs involved in checks. While our check system is automatically printed (of course) it still requires some manual effort in checking (no pun) each one, signing them, putting them in envelopes, and then adding and paying for postage. There's more of a process and thus more of a cost (envelopes, checks, and postage all add up) so we have that minimum just for that reason.

I think that's better than passing the fees onto the contributor as that always feels like "nickle and diming" you which I hate. Tiny little fees burried into businesses are the bane of my existence :)

Most of our members use the PayPal option though it's not for everyone and not available in all countries either and so we're always watching the payment system and trying to add more options and find ways to get money back to the members as fast as possible.

I've had a few people ask the question about offering larger image sizes and I think that's just confusion when we get compared to how other sites sell images. While we do offer 400px, 800px, and 1600px sizes for our x-small, small, and medium sizes our Large size is whatever max size you want to upload. Rather than define a large as a pixel size we'd rather just have that be the largest image your camera shot. We think this is less confusing for customers as well and that's why the Ex License is just the large size but with a different usage license on it for those customers who need it. Right now our most popular sizes are the Medium and Large by a long shot.

Hi Donding,

I tend to be confused by forum formats so not sure if your question got answered. The3dStudio.com started in 1996 as a free 3D resource site. Over the years it evolved and grew to meet needs of our Member Sellers and Member Buyers. For years Matt (the founder and President) had gotten requests from Sellers to add a category for stock photos and that was done in June-July 2009. Then it was expanded into stock photos / images and it's been steadily growing.

So we are a 2D and 3D resource site. We are learning more every day and as we grow we are also working to upgrade and improve whenever we can. We appreciate all input from our members and folks on this forum and others who take the time to offer advice, give suggestions, encourage, comment, etc. We are working to change the way stock is bought and sold.

Feel free to email me directly if you have any comments or questions.
