Title: Woot! Published.
Post by: farbled on August 11, 2018, 14:05
Hi all,

This year has been a bit of a struggle with being let go from work when my office shut down and then more health stuff. So I took the time to finish a project I started more than a year ago. I started writing a (fiction) book and it is finally complete! It is now available for "pre-sale" on Kindle, B&N, Kobo, etc... I am a published author! The book goes "live" on August 18th.

If you don't see your preferred vendor listed please be patient, some are still being approved or you can contact me directly. If anyone does try it, I hope that you enjoy it. And please leave a review where you bought it if you can, even just a rating and whether you liked it or not (this is not a kids or young adult book, fyi).

Congratulations! This is quite an achievement!

But why just a little over a couple of bucks? Less than an SOD? Did you set the price?

I hope you'll get many sales to recoup the energy invested in it.

I also hope Kindle is not capping its contributors, if you know what I mean ;)

Thank you! I am thrilled.
And the price is the sale price, it goes up after it goes live. :) Once I am no longer an unknown, I can demand higher prices. :)

I read the synopsis and it sounds good! Is Barnes and Noble on the list of upcoming places to buy? That is my preferred source. Also will it be available in paperback, or only digital (kindle)?

B&N has it. There is a link to them on my book page under "Nook".

I only buy printed books. I might snag it here after a few unknowns. (new baby and right out of a slump in work, the next couple months are scary territory, life always works out though :) ).

That kindle link sucks. Can we get that on the regular amazon print thing?

Yeah, I prefer printed books myself. Don’t like reading books on ipad, just doesn’t feel right. 🙂 I wanted to pre-order a paperback, but the site/buttons weren’t allowing me to do that. The preorder button shows when nook is selected, but when you select paperback, the button goes away and it says something like out of stock. I will check again later.

Here is the blurb for those who may be curious:

Sarah is a 13 year old orphan who starts experiencing memories that are thousands of years old. She is initially confused when vivid memories from an unknown woman suddenly manifest within her mind when she’s threatened with danger. She uses the knowledge in those memories to help her get out of trouble.

But a DNA swab exposing a unique gene has brought her to the attention of a company that specializes in genetic research. Sarah eagerly seizes the chance for a better life and the fact that she must share her memories as a condition of being accepted in a research project doesn’t raise any red flags for her. Not yet.

Over time, Sarah discovers she is a direct descendant of Innogen, a woman who lived during the time of the Roman invasion of The British Isles. Despite the excitement and confusion this knowledge engenders, Sarah is enjoying the life of a typical teenage girl, including a budding romance, when she realizes that many of her new friends also have ancestral memories. Sarah suspects the project's probing questions mask a hidden agenda and that the students’ memories are central to a secret goal, but what is it?

What Sarah doesn’t know is that the company may not have the best interests of their young charges in mind. They have a more sinister purpose, and they don’t mind if it costs a few students their lives along the way.

No worries! I will check back. Sorry, I just like the smell and feel of real books. Libraries are heavenly! I spend entirely too much time on my ipad as it is. 😲

Best of luck with your project! It's always nice to see someone make it out of microstock alive.

Sounds in tune with the times, hope it's a hit and you can get an advance to write another.

Thanks! Book 2 is already at least half done. But yes, an advance would be wonderful. Sadly, the book industry is much like the micro industry. No one wants to pay for them. :)

But I wrote it for me and if it sells, thats an added bonus.

You mean the self published book publishing industry  ;D

There are plenty of publishers providing advances out there

Finding one that will do your book within a year is the challenge. :) And plenty of the small press publishers do not provide advances, and some of the big ones ask too much from the author. So I went self publish. I spent 6 months researching and contacting publishers, agents, and industry experts.

Maybe Book 2 will get picked up. My editor said it was better than hunger games, but then that's my editor. :)

If it's any consolation the hunger games was krap :D
