hello,
Could i get some critique for my stock works portfolio please?
http://www.dreamstime.com/portfolio.php?clientun=Archibald1221&pg=1&page=1&items=200
I'm working with microstock for about two years now. I have about 900 vectors in my portfolio but my sales are quite small.For example, Dreamstime with more than 900 works brings me only about 15-20 dollars in a month.  Most of other vector contributors have much bigger sales with even much smaller porfolios. I think maybe my illustrations style isn't professional enough, or maybe i'm choosing wrong subjects.
What do you think? I'd like to get some advices. Smiley

I like your work, but I'm not a vector buyer.
I think your work is light-years ahead of what many people post here for critique.

Maybe the subject matter is too abstract for DT, maybe backgrounds don't sell well there... Hard to tell.
I would expect that your Zazzle store is doing well, the designs look very good.

keyword search dreamstime

background  = 3,936,725 images
grunge = 254,671

looks like a case of too many images for too little customers.

I'd do some of your own research try a different subject for awhile.

I like your work.
Why don't you sell on other sites as well ?

It's not a case of unprofessional work the work is very highend.

Observations: you're not choosing illustration - digital as a category. Illustration is a big general term that might be helped by being more specific in categories.

I see a lot of dark images, featuring heavy black. I have noticed my own work sells less when it's dark. Take a page from Yuri's book. He's a photographer not an illustrator but he tends to over-expose to keep things bright bright bright. That may be part of his appeal.

Lastly, there are two kinds of buyer. The first is the graphics pro who is looking for elements, bits and pieces to use to put together their own designs and ideas. Then there's everyone else, looking for complete works that can be placed in a blog or flyer etc. etc. as is, ready to go. Your stuff is very complete. Everything I saw seems ready to place as is. That may limit the appeal for those looking for elements for their own designs.

Just my guesses. Take em, don't take em. whatever. Good luck.

to Snufkin:
Thanks for the compliments Smiley

to qwerty :
probably You're right here.  It's just i personaly like grungy style very much, so i produce a lot of images of this style Smiley

to aeonf:
i'm selling my works also in other agencies. But only shutterstock brings me good earnings - other agencies earnings are same as Dreamstime or worse.

to digitalexpressionimages:
Dark backgrounds with high contrast colors looks very impressive, so i thought it should be popular.
And the statement about object collections might be good idea. Thanks for advices Wink
