I've messaged someone 'in the know' to see what's happening.
Any news?

I don't like Envato at all. I had about 3000 stills on the site and  a couple of years ago they sent me a note and said I was not a good fit for their site. They then closed my account. It took a few months for them to pay me my balance.   Now the FU thing about it was I was selling about 100 bucks a month of stills with them. Not sure what their problem is but I would note trust this group.

The issue I seem to have with them is now they seem to have "so many" people submitting stuff, that unless you've been with them for a while, they seem to do mass rejections of content (which is VERY time consuming to upload due to their interface).

Envato are on the same level as 123RF and Motion Elements when it comes to video. Which means they are not competitive. Only Depositphotos and Alamy video could be worse.

That's because they will be gutter feeding, accepting peanuts for their video sales. Selling video under US$20 net per sale is just not a viable business model, even for a sole operator with relatively small overheads.

How many of these $20 sales are your calculations based on? Surely selling 2000 clips a month at $10 would be a viable business model?

Viable business models (when it comes to stock), have to be based on three things... price, commission rate, number of sales. One of those alone doesn't really tell you anything. Pepsi sell their cans for $1 or thereabouts.. That's 20 times less than $20 and they have massive overheads... but they do ok.
