I was reading a photo magazine and one of the articles referred  to 'low frequency' and 'high frequency' images.

I thought I was pretty well-versed in photography, but I have no idea what those terms mean.

Can anyone tell me what's the difference between low and high frequency images?

Don't know for sure what the magazine was talking about, but considering the same paradigm than used in noise reduction programs, or low/high pass filters, I guess that "high frequency images" means images with lots of small details (ie a landscape with lots of trees, leaves, grass,...). A "low frequency image" could be a sky with big white clouds (no fine details).
