I just wondered what people are finding useful in Photoshop CC 2018. It hasn't changed my life. Perhaps it has for other people?

Nothing much for still photographers.
Looking at Deke's tutorials, it seems mostly to add functionality for people using PS for illustration work.
That's why they're on the subscription model: I wouldn't pay for this upgrade.

I find that with each update, it becomes more bloated and slower. Maybe it's my computer getting older, but I think many new features could be sacrificed for speed.

I've upgraded Illustrator. I've noticed some interface changes but not much else.

Very much agree. Or presumably they could be made optional plug-ins.

I agree as well. I have a workflow with specific tools I frequently use. I don't need all the other bells and whistles. Would be nice if you could deactivate certain functionality and only have the engine load those things you need, or specific modules.  I know, easier said than done, but speed is important for me.

Amazing are the new bugs like this one

That's a 'feature', not a bug!!! (You can change settings).

I'm finding more often than not that I need to close PS via the Task Manager nowadays.  :(

If you are speaking about "Smoothing" it is a feature for the brush tool but it has nothing to do with the healing and spot brush, so it is a bug ;)

I had to close Adobe programs via the Task Manager as well. That is, on my previous computer (i5-2700K CPU, 8 GB RAM and HDD).

Since I have my new computer (i7-8700K CPU, 32 GB RAM and SSD), it opens and closes smoothly. So it may just be your computer ;)

For sure, it's a few years old and underspecced for the new PS bloat!

Take a look at Affinity Photo. One off payment (48), no subscription and it looks and feels like Photoshop but without the bloat. You can get it for a free trial. It accepts all of PS brushes, plugins as well.

After trying it and their Affinity Designer, I stopped my CC subscription.

The sports photographers are gaga over the smart select upgrade (I think it might have a new fancy name) for knocking out extractions.  I'm thinking it might be time to upgrade from CS5...

Caveat:   those guys recommend to backup all plugins and brushes etc. because chances are quite high you will lose them with the update.
