Has anyone tested FF4 and picNiche?
It installs fine, but I can't find the options anymore, hence cannot add my accounts.

Thanks!

Heya :)

It works for firefox 4, though the mozilla people have changed the way a lot of their interface works so it's a little trickier after the first install.

Firstly you need to turn the firefox status bar back on: This can be done by right-clicking the firefox tools menu (hold the Alt key and it should appear at the top), then check the 'Add-on Bar' entry to turn the status bar back on. (This contains the P icon and will show up at the bottom).

In this same menu, you will also find the 'picNiche toolbar' entry (and the 'picNiche Image Search toolbar' entry if you have that installed too). Some people report that this is not disabled by default, others report that it is, so if it's off, check it on, etc etc.

A lot of developers are really annoyed at the mozilla team for turning off a lot of stuff which people take for granted as being on, though they are not going to fix it, so I will be releasing an update in the coming weeks which will attempt to curb much of this confusion. Sorry for the confusion and inconvenience with this stuff, but sadly it's out of my hands (and something many many other people are having to do as they find their addons seem to 'vanish' in fx4).

I will be redesigning the way it works to 'fit' better with the new firefox4 UI and may also release a version for Chrome browser at around the same time. Sadly it will involve rewriting pretty-much the entire codebase so I probably won't have it done for the official fx4 release (just gone into final-beta).

Does that help?
Thanks :)
Bob

Ha Great!

Everything was on by default, only the menu bar is gone.
I still, as usual, can't get 123RF to work. haha. It's always the same. Tried deleting all history/cookies, restarting and so on. But I have almost nothing there, so whatever.

Thanks for this great post!!!!

Heya Simone, thanks :)
Aye, sorry about 123rf (I'm guessing you read the other thread about it). I am considering dropping them entirely from the next version, though until it gets there, I'll just leave it (it works for people with few sales).

So there is no chance whatsoever for 123RF to work properly with picniche? This is the main reason I've stopped using the toolbar, since 123RF works really nice for me (delivers sales).

Please see this thread for why 123rf is not working on the toolbar:
http://www.microstockgroup.com/picniche-toolbar/picniche-problems/msg164792/#msg164792

short version is: it will work for everyone when 123rf fix their borked site :)

I wish there was more I could, but there isn't, sorry.

How can I get to Options. I wish I could disable actions for Fotolia cause I got Javascript errors.

I found that if I first open 123rf web site and then refresh the pic bar, it will populate 123rf correctly and whenever a sale is made after that it shows correctly. You don't need to leave their site open after it shows your sales numbers. If I close ff I have to re-open 123rf again. Hope that helps...and makes sense...

I noticed that myself, but it's not something I want to do. The usefulness of this toolbar for me was the notifications I got for sales, so I won't have to browse to check.

You won't have to check the site after the first time. Sales will continue to show once you see a number after their icon. You won't have to visit their site but one time.

That's not what's happening in my case. I had 12 sales yesterday, the toolbar worked only 2 times (using the previous described workaround).

There is no good fix for 123rf... for some people it works, for others it doesn't. It seems to work best for those who sell few images there. The reason for this is 123rf's really poor (or non-existent) caching algorithm and slow database. I've left it in only this long because it works for 'enough' people, but if they don't fix their site soon it will be removed (though I will add a custom poller).

Because 123RF is important for me. If I can get the toolbar working on the main sites (the ones with the most income) then I'll use it. The way it is now I need to manually look for 123RF sales and add them to the total amount - not much difference from going entirely manual. It's either completely automated or not.

Sorry but I am not understanding.. does the bar take a lot of space on your browser? Do you prefer to sum up all the other too? I must be forgetting something once I dont see a point of not using it just because of one agency

OT: Why is the minimum polling time set to 3 minutes ?

Just to reduce non-essential traffic to agency sites. If you need to poll more often than that you are earning enough money to pay someone to tweak the code for you ;) hehe

Confirmed. If I check off Fotolia Workflow there is no Javascript error.

Error on Fotolia editing page:

Warning: Non-standard document.width was used. Use standard document.body.clientWidth instead.

Thanks, though that is a warning rather than an error, and wouldn't cause any issue in the page (it just means an old variable is now depracated (but still functional), and is caused by something in fotolia's code.
What issue are you getting with the toolbar when the fotolia submitassist is enabled?

Thanks :)
Bob

A new (old) bug has returned.  When more then 1,000$ on IS has been accumulated, the right panel stops updating with sales (no sound either), the top bar does.  Pictures accepted keep updating OK.

There is a simple solution to this problem, cash out!!! Why let IS hold your money interest free, don't they take enough already.  ;)

This is already well covered on several other threads in this forum:
It works for some, not for everyone and there's nothing I can do about it.

A new (old) bug has returned.  When more then 1,000$ on IS has been accumulated, the right panel stops updating with sales (no sound either), the top bar does.  Pictures accepted keep updating OK.

Thanks, I'll fix this in next update.

I 'think' it has something to do with regionalisation settings on the iStock website, "1100.00" or "1,100.00" should parse correctly, but "1,100,00" will not. This is as much a limitation of javascript in the browser as it just uses native parsing, but either way should be trivial to catch the edge-case and format it correctly :)

I can only cash out twice a month, so for heavy MS'ers the balance can quite easily get over 1,000$. in my case I simply missed the cut-out day, so I missed one cash out, but soon enough I will be making more then 1,000$ every 2 weeks.  I know there are some people here who make these figures per DAY !

And BTW, the USD interest rate is near 0% so no interest is lost.

Hi Bobbi, I'm getting a high cpu usage, around 50% with the tool bar installed. It worked great for a long time and no issues. If I disable it firefox goes back to normal. Any ideas what might be causing this and possible fix. I really like the bar and miss it...ty

Strange, I uninstalled and re-installed a second time and it seems to be ok now. It was like it was constantly polling. It fluctuated between 30 and 50 percent processor usage. I'll let ya know if it happens again....thanks Bobbi

I had the same problem last night, then I found that it is bacause my dreamstime account was not logged in.

I've run a bunch of tests on my browsers (fx 3.6 and fx5.0) and can't seem to replicate a problem with memory usage. At least not one I can attribute to either of the picNiche toolbars.
My dreamstime poller also seems to work ok for pollers started at both logged-in and logged-out states.
Since I can't replicate an issue, for now I will put it down to 'normal' firefox unusualness, and won't put a new version out, although I will keep an eye out for similar issues.

There is a complete rebuild of the picNiche toolbars in the works at the moment, so will also be sure to test the new code for any related issues :)

In the meantime, if there is a problem with any of the authenticated pollers (FT, SS, DT, BS or 123RF should all work fine, IS has some known login issues due to their ajaxy login) you should clear previously stored credentials and use these steps to ensure firefox has them stored for the correct site/scope. If you seem to be having issues with continuous login on a poller as mentioned by WooStock, hit ctrl-shift-J or tools/error-console and view only the 'Message' tab, every time a poller accesses the account set it outputs "Asking password manager for password for *agency*"... it 'should' never show the same agency more than twice in about 15-20 minutes but if it does, try following the steps at the link above.

General firefox performance tips:

I have noticed firefox has some pretty odd memory usage particularly in firefox 5, though there are reports that these are mostly resolved in v6 which should be along soon. To deal with these, I have been using an addon called Memory Fox. Enable it once installed (I use it in browser-only mode) and it's pretty good at clearing memory automatically.

You might also want to check the firefox global Slow Performing Add-ons list. Firebug is a bit of a hog lately, so I run it only in my dev-profile. Some others to watch for are known memory leaks in Adblock+ which havn't been patched yet, some greasemonkey issues if using * targetted scripts and general slowness in NoScript.

I've also run some tests on bare firefox with various commonly-used sites and found that both Google+ and Facebook take up a lot of memory (particularly if used in pinned-tabs). Google docs and wave have similar issues, probably because of the constant server-polls and some known firefox bugs with their revamped remote-asset-loading code. I don't know enough about firefox memory management internals to know if these are a problem for everyone, but I mention it as it's worth a look next time you have memory issues.

A bit of a lengthy response, but figured I'd put up everything I've found as I've heard of a lot of people having memory-management issues with firefox lately and since I still think it's a far better browser than Chrome, these bits will keep it usable till firefox 7 which from what I can tell on the mozilla boards has some major core improvements and will bring it's speed and memory management into line with Chrome (which currently has the edge on speed and memory due to it's 'sandboxed' execution model).

Hope that helps :)
Bob

Not sure if I reported this or not but if IS balance is over 1,000$ the program stops the sales pop-up. it does update on top though.

Thanks, I'm probably still using parseInt rather than parseFloat, will modify it for the next update :)
