Hi Everyone,

In the past few months, the reviews over at Pond have gotten a little crazy.

Today all my photos were returned to me because I didn't supply camera and software information to my photographs.

I was told that buyers need this information.... and yet I have NEVER supplied it to Pond so why are they making such a big deal about it now?

A photo buyer is going to be buying a photo based on its subject matter... NOT on whether it was shot with such and such a camera or edited with a certain photo editing program.

Grrrrrrrrr!

Anyway, I am writing them back saying that I don't provide this information due to proprietary purposes.

weird because they were just asking us how to make their site better and this point was mention to them. It takes too long to upload to them on photos with required leases let alone what type of camera and location the photo was take with...

I wonder if the reviewer just made a mistake. They used to only require camera or software and location for video clips.

Actually, this is an easy fix. Go under Templates, and make a template that includes the word Photoshop as the software. Call the template "Photoshop" so you can find it easily. Then, you won't have to include what camera was used. Tick all the boxes, and apply the Template.

I agree it's a ridiculous requirement. hopefully they'll remove that if/when they change the interface.

Could this be an anti-fraud move - that if your EXIF includes your camera name and serial number and you have thousands of files from hundreds of cameras you are probably a thief?

I was just getting ready to post something similar to this. "IF" this is true, good job P5. At least they'd be doing something sensible.

I never knew EXIF information to contain a serial number. I certainly have never seen it.

The way I see it, when the buyer downloads the photo the EXIF and IPTC information is going to be included in the image anyway, unless this information was somehow removed during the editing process.

All Pond is doing is including this information in their database, which is not overwriting any information contained within the image file itself. And in my opinion this info is not necessary.

Anyway I did get a reply from Pond... they said they actually have buyers ask about this info. However, I am thinking buyers are not so much interested in this info -- as it's other photographers who want to know this information.

When I eat at a restaurant, I don't ask what brand of cookware the chef uses, because I don't care.

When I buy clothes, I don't ask what brand of sewing machine was used, because I don't care.

When I buy groceries, I don't ask what brand of farm equipment was used, because I don't care.

Why would anyone care what brand of camera I use???

If the camera takes good pictures, then the pots and pans cook great food, the sewing machines make great clothes, and the farm equipment grows great crops.

EXIF data has a camera serial number and camera type in it
+ also a lens ID number.

No need... problem has been resolved.

However camera/software used shouldn't be a requirement.
