Sean Locke Photography:
Why does this kind of thing always ring hollow?

"We recently ran a test with a portion of our video collection, offering low-resolution versions of clips in addition to HD and 4K files. The goal was to determine if this would attract new customers — those creating content for the web or social media at lower budgets — along with incremental revenue for our contributors. Most importantly, we wanted to confirm this wouldn’t cannibalize sales of higher-priced HD content.

We’re excited to share that the test was a success. The low-res versions attracted new buyers who were not previously purchasing with us, while sales of HD content in the test group actually outperformed the control population.

On Thursday, November 15 at 12:30pm EST, we’ll be hosting a YouTube Live “Town Hall” event to walk you through all the results of this test. You’ll be able to see all the data for yourself, learn more about this initiative, and have your questions answered live by Scott Koehler, Pond5 GM, Artists & Content. Please RSVP below to join us for the discussion."

nobody:
seems to be the season now with all theses so called deals for us! They make it sound like a gift under the tree when in fact it is a lump of coal in the stocking for us  :-\

cascoly:
what is a 'control' group for videos? --  how were videos put into each group? how do you know what buyers are looking for and prepare 2 sets that differ only in having low-res for 1 group?  how large a sample size? etc, etc

trek:
I learned I was in the test group after requesting an explanation about very low priced video sales.  I then requested an opt out.

thor_odt:
the problem is that now Pond5 accepts too many video with low quality and their algorithm show the results the senior contributor.

so you can upload the best videos of the world and never sell anything if you are contributing since less than 5 years with a big portfolio
