Topic: what's cheaper than Zazzle?

I'm getting interested in Zazzle. I did some coffee cup designs, ordered a couple and was very pleased with how they look.  I think I could sell some locally, through friends and small shops.  But not at Zazzle prices.  And I don't need to sell through Zazzle, I think I can do it myself.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a source of custom printed coffee cups, with good quality and reasonable prices for small quantities?  I

I'm also a Zazzler and some products appear to be quite expensive (the base cost I mean).
However, Zazzle wants to make money as well and that's why.

I can imagine that you'd only get bigger discounts when you buy larger quantities like 1000 mugs or something. I'm talking about significant discounts not just a couple bucks cheaper than Zazzle. I could be wrong but maybe someone can shine some light into this.

I want to find someone who will just make cups, bags, etc. and ship them to me - I don't need a sales site like Zazzle.  No one is buying $14 coffee cups.  That's why people say the only thing they ever sell on Zazzle is post cards :-(

My order quantities would be small - like a dozen - so I'm not expecting big discounts, I just want to shave a few dollars off of the Zazzle price.

In my opinion, Zazzle just doesn't work because they take all the money. Sound familiar?

Even here in Brazil, many photo stores offer products you can order with your design on it, mostly calendars, mousepads, magnets and stickers. I never compared prices to Zazzle (which I also find very expensive in many items). I believe there are many more options in USA and UK photo stores.

Yes, you can get one-off custom mugs printed in lots of places, but the prices are stiff.  I need a supplier who can do them for me cheaply enough that I can still make a couple of dollars.

I would try to ask for price some chinese producer.

The problem is that I would be afraid that they could stole my design.  Undecided

Thanks for that link, it's interesting.  It's too bad no prices are listed.  And as you say, it would be hard to have confidence in a completely unknown source.

I paid $13 for mugs from Jim Rathbert photography at his stand at a conference I went to last year

http://www.birds-i-view.biz/RathertGiftPage.html
http://theskycafe.wordpress.com/2010/02/10/the-finest-bird-mugs/

not something I'd buy online, but when you are standing looking at them and can touch them and see they are nice, I happily bought them (still happy dishwasher / microwave etc safe)

He said he was printing them himself (although thinking about it now, perhaps he meant he was getting them printed himself? - not sure).

It has fascinated me a number of times on travels, felt that at all the touristy things in thailand someone would grab your picture and 20-30 minutes later, do you want to buy a plate / mug / framed photo etc that they have printed  Grin (sometimes yes, sometimes no), they must be able to produce them quite cheaply (although labor costs are minimal) with the amount they must throw away.

edit: I remember Jim Rathbert saying that he was baking them so must be doing it himself

Those look good and I assume he makes a few dollars on each one.  I've started googling for mug printing shops but as always, there's so much junk to sift through...  I'd really like to find someone locally.

My own mug costs me $13.19 at Zazzle and with the current discount (TAXDAYSALE11) it comes down to $11.82.
If you get 100 mugs, each one will cost you $10.67.

Doing a quick research on Google, I found discounts at Zazzle for up to 40% on mugs last christmas which brings down the price to $7.91 per mug (back then with free shipping). I'm just saying that you can save a lot if you are not in a hurry.

I have noticed that Zazzle has frequent sales and discounts.  I actually think that somewhat emphasizes the point that their everyday prices are too high.

I personally never buy from them without a steep discount. If it's not discounted 50% or more I won't buy it.

But when they offer major discounts I haven't found another place that has the same prices so I order from Zazzle.
Customer service is top notch.

That supplier is apparently in the UK and I'm in the midwestern U.S., but they look reasonable so I'm saving the link, thanks.

I hate to mention the W word, but I see that Walmart U.S. has mugs starting at $8.  If you think you are going to run 50 mugs I would seriously encourage you to buy your own mug press and dye sub printer.  It's not as expensive as you'd think, you can likely get started for around $500.

You can get a basic 11 oz. white mug with your photos at www.snapfish.com for $9.99.  They have a lot of promotions - www.retailmenot.com tends to list a lot of coupons for them - try a search there for Snapfish coupons.  They had a 33% off mugs coupon in March, and they have one posted now for 20% off your entire order, and another for 11% off plus free shipping.
