Excellent - they are backtracking again as soon as they figure people have turned their backs.  >:(

Thanks for looking for me.

Yes, I emailed them back in February, but when I was reading through and catching up on this thread I saw a  bunch of posts from people saying that they subsequently added a checkbox to allow you to opt out on your profile page and I can't find one on mine....

Can anyone tell me where exactly to find this opt out checkbox that has appeared on Deposit?  I have logged in and looked on my profile page but I can't see it at the bottom - I just have three check boxes for email notifications there.

Shutterstock.com / Re: Sales on Shutter

My stats are also about half what I would normally expect with a lot less ODs.

I have a friend who follows Google rankings very closely as they run a business that is dependent on them.  They told me that there had been a major shake-up of Google placement (something called 'Panda' maybe? I can't quite remember) and that their site that had been in the doldrums for a couple of years was suddenly on page 1 again.  As soon as they told me this (around the 26th of May), my SS and DT OD sales tanked and OD sales at the smaller agencies suddenly picked up.  If what they said is correct then this would make sense as it would mean that the smaller agencies were being found by non-sub buyers who were searching one image at a time via Google.

Unfortunately the increased sales at smaller agencies has not been enough to compensate for losing sales at SS and so I am now quite down for this stage of the month.  So if my friends are right about it then I hope Google change it back soon or either SS and DT find a way to get back into good Google placement again because this is killing me.

I just logged into BigStock and saw for the first time a banner across the top of the page that said 'Please input your VAT number - if you don't we will have to start deducting VAT from your income' (or words to that affect).

This is a nonsense - I am not required to collect VAT unless my income is over 1000 a week (rough guide) and mine (in total) is nowhere near that.  Not even remotely close.  So I don't have a VAT number to give them.

Anyone else seeing this message?

Question to Yuri: Do you still think you made right decision by moving subscription sites to Getty? Everyone can make a mistake. I would really appreciate your opinion of this Getty's decision. Do you still think you port worth more on Getty than on sub. sites?

At times like this, I think about Yuri's "professionals work with professionals" comment and just have to smile.

:)

Indeed, but I wonder if he manages to side-step all the sh*t the rest of us have to 'take - or get out'.

It's fun to bash Yuri but the way I see it, if it hurts him it's going to hurt all of us.  Maybe you should be careful what you wish for.  Oh and it seems childish and petty.

It's going to hurt us, inevitably, but does his 'special' contract teflon-coat him from this?
No one wished anything, just curious. Though of course, he won't tell.

I can't see the download for free option on his image here but I am not very au-fait with Getty so I may be looking at the wrong collection or something.

Symbiostock - General / Re: What happened?

Yep - thanks for all you have done Leo, it is very much appreciated.  I am glad to hear that you have passed it onto others who hopefully can keep it moving along.

9
I know what you mean - at this rate I will be selling on SS and DT and not much else.  :(

10
Well yeah, but they have been caught with their pants down so having to react now.  Also I suspect they have probably charged an up-front fee to SnotShop or maybe an annual fee so renegotiating that wouldn't be that easy when it might involve refunding some of what they have been paid.  As has been pointed out already, most contribs won't see this thread so the numbers that remove their images from the partner sites won't be that great in the grand scheme of things.

After reading this yesterday I had a look at CanStock to see what I had received for their partner program and found these:

$26.76
$24.96
$19.80
$8.00

all marked 'distribution regular'.  Now that is more like it - if CanStock can do it then Deposit are just being greedy b*$%%&$s.

11
Ok, I emailed them yesterday and received this reply today:

Dear StockCube,

Deleting you from the Partner program is a difficult technical process. Thus, unfortunately, it cant be achieved momentarily. Our technical department is already working on it. We are planning to complete the process by March 8th.
Thank you for  patience and understanding.

Kind regards,

Depositphotos Team

I guess I can live with that and it was good to get an acknowledgement so quickly.  Will need to put something in the diary to remind me to look again at this on March 8th.

Adobe Stock / Re: Fotolia Launches Dollar Photo Club?
« on: February 24, 2014, 15:39 »

And "Unlimited print runs, Unlimited image use", it's just extended USE, nothing less!

But the standard licence at Fotolia already offers unlimited print runs - this from the licences page on their site:
"Fotolias standard license allows unlimited print runs"  It also covers so many uses like book covers etc that it is a wonder anyone ever buys an extended licence.  I don't allow them with my FT port since I got $5 for one not long after I started.  Dollar Photo Club doesn't seem to offer extended licences that I can see, but when the permitted use of the standard licence is so broad who needs one apart from TShirt and mug sellers?

That is great, thanks for that Ariene.

I have been out of the loop for a while and have only just found this thread.  I am deeply disappointed that Deposit are behaving in this way when I had thought them quite a nice little agency that was making a concerted effort to grow and challenge the big boys.

When I first started with them in 2010 I had 8 images rejected but since then they have taken everything I upload.  I am sure they don't inspect them at all.  I recently uploaded the same image twice in the same batch by accident and both copies were accepted.  I deleted the spare but it didn't fill me with much confidence in their inspection process.  You only have to look at the 'newest uploads' section to see glaring examples of technically poor images or images that contain recognisable trademarks being sold as royalty-free.

This SnotShop deal would seem to fit in with the acceptance policy in that both are short-sighted money grabs, perhaps suggesting that the owners are planning on selling the business soon.

I will send an email asking for my images to be removed from all other sites except Deposit and will see what happens.  It is extremely galling to see my stuff being sold on SnotShop for high prices - if my images aren't removed then I will also delete my portfolio from Deposit as I would rather forego my tenner a month and keep some semblance of pride.

I think the 'Fair Trade' mark idea is an excellent one - we are getting paid at sweatshop levels after all.

Edited to add - though I am not sure that anyone other than Stocksy would qualify at the moment....

When they do can you ask them for my $6.50 too? :(

Hi - as per the title - does anyone know the answer to this question?

If I close my StockFresh account now will I get paid the balance that is in my account?  I have not yet reached the payout threshold.

Cheers

Photography Equipment / Re: Wacom tablet - need pro version?
« on: February 24, 2014, 09:31 »
I think small is best for tablets as otherwise you have to wag your arm around a long way to navigate around the screen.  It also takes up a lot of desk space if you have a large one.

Like Jo-Ann, I have also long since ditched the mouse.  I have had my Wacom bamboo for six years now and wouldn't be with out it.  Mine is just wearing out on the surface where I have used it so much so I will replace it soon, but after six years I think that is ok.

Well, they don't answer but maybe they read this thread: this morning my 2.55 are back :D
For the benefit of the doubt let's say that it was a system error ...

It may be back on your account, but that doesn't get the money into your pocket and if you have deleted your images then it never will....

I just got the one sub sale on DT on Christmas day, so no bonus for me.

Newbie Discussion / Re: Fotolia - minimum amount of sales
« on: December 22, 2013, 14:48 »
The minimum payout threshold is set at 50 credits.  You can request a payout earlier but you have to 'pay' for it with a deduction of three credits (from memory).

General Stock Discussion / Re: Stockbo
« on: December 20, 2013, 16:00 »
I have to admit to being surprised by the enthusiasm shown by contributors in this thread.  We periodically seem to get people in here popping up to offer us fabulous riches and a fair deal in their new stock site, only for it to fizzle out soon after start-up or not even to get that far.  I can't honestly see how you are going to compete and establish yourself without a huge marketing budget and you don't make any mention of backers with deep pockets.  You don't seem to have any 'previous' in the industry (unless I have missed something) so I am not sure who you are and where you have appeared from and what has led you to believe you have the necessary expertise for this venture.

If StockFresh and Veer haven't been able to make it (they are both still going but neither is looking healthy or a serious competitor to the 'big boys') then I'm sorry but I really can't see how you will.

I am thinking of signing up with Bluehost, just because others have done so and it seems cheap enough.  What I don't understand are the host of optional extras listed - what do I need and what do I not need?

SiteLock Domain Security   - $1.67 per month (Billed annually at $19.99/yr)

Site Backup Pro   - $1.67 per month (Billed to end of hosting term)

Search Engine Jumpstart   - $14.99 per year More information

Domain Whois Privacy   - $9.99 per year HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Eeek.  I'm out. I will pull my meagre portfolio right away.  I have been meaning to do it anyway as they have only made me five bucks in two years - now I can see why!
