Dreamstime.com / Refund emails from Dreamstime
« on: October 12, 2017, 14:56 »
Just received nine emails in a row from Dreamstime notifying me of customer refunds. Each were 35c subscription sales. Seriously, who would request a 35c refund??

I have had my work used by a photographer advertising a studio day offer. The photographer didn't state that they had taken the image / but it was certainly implied. It really didn't feel right.

I wish they took underwater stuff. I would gladly pull al of it off micro to work with Stocksy.

They do take underwater stuff.

Canva / Re: Canva

Indeed. Canva sales are drying up. A combination of increased competition and the (extremely frustrating) continuing deletions from my portfolio. Such a shame as things looked so promising a year or so back.

Always, always pursue infringements if you are certain your work has been used commercially without license. Most of my work is RM and I chase every infringer with the threat of legal action. I make a significant income from infringers each year - plus, it teaches them a valuable lesson and deters them from illegally using images in the future.

If we all simply shrug our shoulders when people use our work without permission then there is no incentive for these people to buy licenses.

positive adjustment here too. Thanks, Fotolia..!

Seems to me like FT are really working hard - in several respects - to take SS's place at the top table.

I noticed the wrong calculation in the email on May 3 and opened a ticket at Shutterstock's support site. A few hours later they answered:

Thank you for contacting Shutterstock Support.
On May 3, we sent a Shutterstock Payment email that listed an incorrect Total Payout Amount. The amount shown is double what you will actually receive.
A corrected email will be issued, and will display the proper amount.
This error is in the email only, and you will receive the correct amount when payouts are issued.
Thank you for your patience.
Thanks,
Shutterstock Contributor Support Team

Such mistakes can happen  ::) ...

Did you open a ticket too?

I opened a ticket and got the same canned response. I asked them to explain how such an error could occur and also if they planned to apologise to contributors. I received no response.

The first amount is alarmingly small. The second amount looks nearer the mark. If the first amount is right then I'm out of the game.

General Stock Discussion / Re: How was your April?
« on: May 03, 2017, 11:56 »
My volume sales at Shutterstock have fallen off a cliff and the decent size sales have evaporated too. I've come to the conclusion that Microstock just isn't worth the effort anymore. It's impossible for me to swim against the tide and survive. Sadly, I'll leave the field free for those working out of smaller economies...

Tried to respond to the survey from both phone and PC - crashed both times.

I just got the boot too. No great loss. I had my own hand hovering over the delete button in any case as a result of their dodgy tax practices. Wish I'd have pushed the button before them - but hey ho...

New uploads don't contain keywords carried over from Bridge. Can't attach MR. Download map not working and stats not visible on contributor page.

Ah now I see why some are getting uptight! Read my OP!!  where do I mention RM?  the answer is: not even once. I say quote " they dont like if we upload files that are also in micro agencies"  may it be RM or RF doesnt matter they simply dont like it.
Of course after so many years in the photography gebit yes I do know the difference between rights managed and royalty free. These were uploaded as 105 mb Tiffs and RF!

The sole reason why I quickly removed these files from SS was A. SS dont bother to show new files anymore. B. Given the price these two shots sold for well I dont think they would be happy in seeing them sold for something like 0.38c.

Anywhw no harm done and maybe as many point out here in many threads. Good idea to read posts properly and not to jump to any conclusions. :)

Quite an odd thing to do: ask us to read your original post...after deleting it..! It's clear from your subsequent posts that the images were licensed with world rights which again suggests they were RM.

You are skating on seriously thin ice sending work from the same shoot to RM boutique and Micro RF.

I've already had 6 USD 0.02 sales, all in a single day last month. I'm out after the next payment. These guys are not even wort the effort of signing a petition.
It was supposed to start on november 25, am i wrong ?

Not sure, but I too have had an 0.02c and a 0.04c royalty from iStock in the last few days.

"so I would be earning some more money by uploading to istock"

Not necessarily. Istock are currently decimating royalties for contributors. The danger is that other agencies will follow their lead. In uploading to istock you may be cutting your own throat and the throats of the other agencies that currently pay you more.

I was alerted to this anomaly (and also last months) due to sudden and unexpected jump in royalties showing on Microstockr app.

$0.02 does not even cover the usage of a shutter actuation (based on cost of shutter repair when one has to repair a broken shutter which inevitably happens after lots of shutter actuations).

Nice math.....
an average/good camera should resist 250.000 actuations and it costs around 1000$:
it means 0,004$ per actuation. You need to make one photo (that sells at least once) every five actuations just to pay for the camera

Yes, but recharging your battery will blow your budget ;-)

I plan to leave my existing portfolio at iStock for the timebeing - after all the pain of uploading there it hurts me to delete all that effort. However, I will review the earnings in three months or so. If I begin to see those 2c royalties rolling in then it is without doubt time to leave them for good.
