I was searching for one too, and stumbled on this. Looks like it's overused. Someone can seriously consider this as business opportunity.

Photo Critique / Re: Stocksy rejection-need your opinion

Indie, I come across your work many times in 500px. I find your work is very similar to 2 other very popular photographers in Stocksy, and one of them from your city and I'm sure you know them well. Each time I see similar portrait in any viral social media post, I always try to guess which of the 3 of you take the photo.

Have you considered Trevillion and Arcangel?

Update: Oh, just saw your port in Trevillion. Stunning work!

Tnx again to all of you but I think this could be the main reason. Yes there are few of us in the same city and we basically grew up together and we are all more or less good friends, so it's no wonder we have a similar style. We also live in small country where you can name just a few models (in a fashion industry that does not exist) so it's extremely hard to find new faces, that is why we usually work with the same models   :-[

Anyway, I'm planning to relocate soon(to another country) because I'm somehow stuck in here and I can't make further progress with such a limitation. I'm working on it for the last year and a half so I believe there is a good reason for everything that happens to me (at least it's always been that way so far :) )

Model like Nejla H, no one in the right mind will reject the opportunity to shoot her. I would too if I happen to be in your city :D.
Best of luck with your relocation, I'm sure it will bring you more opportunities.

Stocksy has hard limit of number of co-op members, that's why it's getting tough to get in now as there are not many spots left. But that doesn't mean we won't accept anymore new photographers because it will come to a point where we have to let go of folks who have been dormant or passive co-op members and fill them with new members. But those spots will most likely given to photographers who can offer something different and fill the holes in library, not diluting them; so it's not due to elitist reason. I'm not in the position to share much. Co-op runs differently from the normal agencies where the management can make the calls without getting approval from other photographers. Any major business decisions made in Stocksy needs votes from the co-op members that includes the co-op membership limit.

Nina, your work is so beautiful. I'm sure you will be accepted if you applied a year or two ago.
However, I think glamour portraits is quite saturated in Stocksy. I could be wrong, but I recognise a few of your models have worked with other Stocksy's photographers, so that doesn't really help especially when they are looking for something different.

Newbie Discussion / Re: Offset vs Stocksy
« on: April 05, 2016, 21:29 »
Love your portfolio. You should be with both. I'm not with Offset, but as far as I remember Offset doesn't require exclusivity, you can license on your own too. Also, Offset takes editorial, useful for stuff that you don't have model and property release.
I'm with Stocksy. Stocksy requires shoot/series exclusivity. You can't submit photos from the same shoot to other agency or license them on your own.

Both are picky, so what accepted by Offset, may be rejected by Stocksy and vice versa. So it's better to be with both if you are accepted by Stocksy.

I have deleted most of my stuff there too. Took forever to get reviewed. Can't be bothered to play the waiting game.

I did. But I'm always ask them upfront. I email them first, explain about stock photography, and property release, only book the place when they agree to sign. I even offer small additional fee if I really like the place and the house owner is reluctant.

I love their food photos. Seriously, if you can't see and appreciate the beauty in those photos, please stop comparing or even thinking of joining. Why bother when you don't get them at all? It's not your style, move on.

Well, there are enough artists with sales there, so they seem to be working.

Hi Jasmin, I was invited some while ago to contribute to OFFSET. I haven't sent them anything yet - mainly because I haven't heard of anyone selling anything there. Can you say a little more about what you know of sales potential on OFFSET? Thanks

I know several offset photographers. They do sell, but I'm not sure how well. Most of them don't submit to microstock, so that explains why they are not here.

Stocksy / Re: Call to Artists 2015
« on: November 25, 2015, 20:52 »
Hi all, do you think I still could apply if my works have never been published (I only have my microstock portfolios online)? Or I shouldn't even bother?

It's RF, so whether the works have been published or not; it doesn't matter. Once images  uploaded to Stocksy, you have to make the same images and sister images are not on other sites.

Good to hear that you guys are selling images on Stocksy, by the look of it though you are only selling each image once. Yes you get a couple of hundred dollars, but unless that images sells many more times how will it cover your ROI, if you shot a model and had to hire equipment or a studio. Does not really matter that you got a couple of hundred dollars for a one off sale infact if you look at it like that it is a bit of a rip off.
I should think thet stocksy makes you exclusive and certainly the client will want exclusivity.

Stocksy requires images exclusivity, not photographers. I'm with Stocksy for 1.5 years, my top sellers sold more than 20 times.

It's a fact. If you are Getty contributor, those PA sales always appear on the statement.

Stocksy / Re: Applying to Stocksy - some help needed please
« on: November 18, 2015, 20:25 »
I submitted around 20 photos; 20 of my best photos. Just submit the stuff that you normally shoot, but the best photos you have. If you shoot food, send those shots that look like they come from Jamie Oliver's magazine. If you shoot hipsters or lifestyle, make sure they as good as from Kinfolk etc. If you shoot travel, landscape or wildlife; well look at Lonely Planet or NatGeo for reference. My point is, don't send stuff that you think look good only on flyers or banners, but good enough for editorial section in popular magazines. Nothing wrong with those photos for flyers and banners, but you can save them later after you got in :).

but stocksy do not accept editorials, no??? which is why i have not even looked towards
applying to stocksy or canva

Stocksy doesn't offer editorial licensing. Stocksy favors realistic, editorial STYLE of photos.

That is a much better article. I wonder who they can attract given the company situation and the strong competition? Who will be ready for this challenge??

Scott Braut??

Now that is a pot-stirrer guess.  ;D ;D

So, it's NOT Getty! ADOBE got him!

Stocksy is not for everyone. Yes, we have specific preference for aesthetic, and photographers who appreciate this type of aesthetic will enjoy working at this place. I have my own struggles in meeting the aesthetic requirements, but when that happens, I dont go around bashing the agency.

I really hope we open the door more to those who appreciate our style. For those who want to join us, the only tips I can provide is, to submit photos that you think will inspire designers to do things differently, to give them that light bulb, not to fit or follow the trends. If you truly hate the style, please dont force yourself to fit in and make yourself miserable. I cant talk for others, but being a Stocksy member, I dont feel elitish or trying to be different as people tend to think of us. We are to here to provide alternative to designers.

I care exactly because I am a member

Prove it.

Lol, you are joke. :) What am I supposed to do, copy paste from their forums? I can do that for you, but I just didn't want to intrude on ppls stocky insider stuff.

Okay, since you're content hiding behind the comfort of anonymity, let's pretend you are a Stocksy member.  That would mean you're also a part owner of the company.  Since you're such a big fan of the co-op business model, what have you done to contribute?  Have you proposed any resolutions?  Voted at the meetings?  Participated in any forum discussions?  Responded to any requests for community input?  Contacted HQ with ideas?  Have you done anything at all besides bash the company any chance you get?

I did vote previously. But when one of their meetings ended, they wrote on the site that they wouldn't post a transcript, like they promised, (because it would be long and boring or some similar excuse), but instead we get  a "kick-ass" summary. Woo-hoo. Also a few times I got the rejection for some shots that tehy 'don't want peopole juts posing by themselves without context, because that's contrived and too ordinary-stock-like'. Than I visited stocksy front page and the curated collection there was loaded with shots of peple  posing alone, pretty forced (vsisbly amateur models). After reading, seeing all of that I decided to stay away from the whole thing beyond uploading and the most necessary communication with the so called "curators" :)

...and before you start whining again: I have good acceptance % there. I looked around and it was very clear that most ppl get a lot less shots from their series accepted then me - but sorry, other people's gullibility won't change my opinion.

Interesting. So, you have never voiced out your dissatisfaction there, never participate in the forum except lurking and come whining here.

You might want to read my post again (or just read it). I don't start conversing with ppl who talk like that. If I want to hear more "kick ass" deals, I'll watch TV shop or ads for payday lenders.

Seriously?? You refused to talk to them just because they don't talk the same way as you??? Come on, you should have better reason for avoiding talking to them.

Stocksy is a big failure on many levels, and now it seems they are getting desperate for sales. 90% of the the failure is the curation, it is done by 12 year old hispterfan teengirls recruited from random instagram accounts. They are extremely good at picking out the useless, chaotic stuff - to be "so different"... I guess. Just look at the opening page, it has become an ugly mess.

You bash Stocksy every chance you get.  Why do you care so much?  Why don't you just ignore them?

After I'v been on istock for a few months, I bashed Istock too, warning ppl that it's gonna be a trap and huge disappointment, although sales there were ok back than. I saw the clusterf*** coming when I got a dose of their attitude towards contribs from the way they communicated inside (lobo & co) Ppl said similar things like you, that I'm just jealous, and why do I bother, to hell with naysayers they gonna just hoo-ray and upload. Look what's up with that now.

I didn't say anything about you being jealous. I asked why you care so much about Stocksy. I don't believe you are a Stocksy member. You claim to have inside info but your facts are all wrong. I just don't believe you.

I care exactly because I am a member, and it has been a huge disappointment & getting worse. The biggest waste of time for little return in stock yet. Especially sad, because I still think the co-op model is great. A great business model totally wasted by childish mismanagement of their virtual assets.

I'm really puzzled. I'm really new there and with small collection but my returns have been really good. So much better than Getty for me. How big is your portfolio?

Thanks, Mark
