General Stock Discussion / Re: Model Release
« on: February 03, 2017, 07:30 »
they can if the shoot location address is kinda noticeably different. For instance, you shoot in the beginning of the month on the forest, and then with the same model, you shoot in the following week inside of an apartment. Different locations, different addresses, different model releases. ;)

Microstock Services / Re: Offer photo retouching(editing) services

But imagine sending 100 images to retouch from a photoshoot.  Only 50 are accepted.  Then only 25 sell.  I have to sell at least 350 times just to cover the retouching service.  And another 350 times to make a reasonable profit. Those 25 images have to sell 700 times.  So $1 is expensive...

We earn $0.30 per image.
We cannot pay $1,00 per image.

I'm interested in a service like this, but the problem is:

- for a photoshoot with a model and a theme, like beach for example, submiting 150 photos of that shoot, 70 of those being accepted by the microstock company, earning $0,30 for each sale of maybe 20 photos of those 70, expecting $50 to $100 return value in 3 years that the images can "stay" in the market. You've got to make your prices cheap. Find bulk prices or discounts.  so $1 per image is expensive. And some times i have to buy acessories for the shoot, or spend something on a location, like your local horse association.

You've got to make $0,10 per image and that includes retouch, keywording and submission.

Only 20% of our portfolio is actively selling. Another 20% is sporadically selling.  And the rest doesn't sell at all.

I outsource most of keywording

Where do you outsource the keywording? Are they accurate with plants / bugs or flower species, locations and names of tools for example?
Some keywording companies, generalize things, like a bug is only a bug and a garden tool is everything...
Is there a website for contacting to know more info?

For uploading i use onedrive from microstock and the otixo to send the files more quickly to several microstock websites...

Upload only to a few! Only to a few ones that have a good work/sales-ratio and maybe one or two fair sites and use the spared time not dealing with the unsubstantial ones to create your own site!

You'll probably will start to work faster, produce more and the probability will that earnings will rise, because you already earn more on those websites, instead of the smaller ones.

Even if the smaller ones, earn you 10% of income, that loss, is compensated with the increase to product to the bigger ones.

Did you guys tried this approach ?

What is you opinion on this topic. It doesn-t matter if you have a big team, small team or it's only you, the photographer.

Mas qual o anexo do IRS que isso se coloca ?

Vocs colocam o valor total que receberam de todos os sites s numa linha ?

well my method is pretty simple, as i don't do this as a full time job, so i have to simplify things.
basically i have 3 folders at the begining:

- new photos (basically everything new, i only create subfolders to people, because of model releases) i don't keep raw files after editing is done. i don't plan to re-edit if file is rejected, instead i make new ones, your photography skills are always improving anyway.

- tag (after editing files move here, i insert tags to each file and save. i use photomechanic)

- upload (after tagging files they move and keep on pilling here. after i start uploading i don't move new files to here, instead they keep pilling on the "tag" folder. i use filezilla but thinking to give "lightburner" a try. i tryed picworkflow but it is still too expensive for me.

after i finish upload to all agencies, about 12, i move the files to another one called microstock photos, i separate them by global categories like animals, nature, urban, transportation, no sub-folders like "ants" or "rivers", i'm pretty bored at sub-dividing them on the microsites, so i simplify the process on my hardrive.

i'm now experimenting new agencies, upload a pretty bulky and diverse batch and watch for a year, if it reaches the $100 mark, i keep uploading, but if not, i forget it and check once in a while.

my workflow is faster if i concentrate on better selling agencies, because is best to increase my portfolio to 1000 a year on shutterstock then spending 20h a week on smaller sites.
