As of 6/1/2023, there was a change made to the editorial caption requirements. To summarize, they now require a full date to be included for editorial submissions. Circa is no longer acceptable for an editorial submission except for content that was captured before the year 2000. A full list of requirements can be found in this updated post.

oh, i was looking at that page a few day ago and it was different. Thanks.

It seems chaotic.

"Circa year" was accepted for many years when the shot is not about some specific event.
And if was according to the original editorial guidelines, i've learnt it from that.

Few day ago i've found some possibly current guidelines on the website. Now it said that if photos are not vintage, at least month and year has to be written even for "circa" descriptions.
I've resubmitted my files corrected to this format. Some got accepted but the majority didn't

Oh, and the editorial guidelines i've seen few days ago on the contributor website seem to be gone by now...

In the meanwhile I still see some recently accepted editorial files with just "circa 2023" as date

Just got all my editorial photos and videos rejected for editorial caption.

I've written them the exact same way as i had been for many many years.

Example:
Valmeinier, France - Circa 2023:

Does anyone know about any rule change?

My portfolio has finally been moved to Premium. It took about 10 days from my email to them.

Could you please share where have you contacted them for this?
It's bit confusing how to use support on their site.

Looks like the websites are down as well

6
Today after uploading some files without an issue suddenly i cannot log in anymore. Is that an issue with the service?

How to contact Stocksubmitter support when unable to log in?

And what about editorial video?  There was a talk about it several months ago

Yes, shutterstock was a hard one, as it still gives more than 50% of my earnings, so it's hard to know what to do with it...

But dropping Alamy is a no-brainer, they haven't ever been even remotely significant anyways, i was was already thinking about dropping even before this new commission thing...

General Stock Discussion / Re: European Union suing Apple
« on: May 03, 2021, 07:06 »
The European Commission said the tech giant was in breach of its rules by charging high commission fees in its App Store.

Could this be the thin end of the wedge, and help the Microstock creative sector fight back against the likes of Shutterstock and Getty.

Would be nice.
I'm not really familiar with the App Store, but i think it's a different scenario than microstock sites.
AFAIK the App Store only provides a platform the distribute the apps, but the developer still have to do their own marketing to reach customers.
With microstock sites you just upload your material, and forget the rest, trusting the agency with finding buyers for your work.

Still it would be great to do something about abusive MS commission structures. Just wanted to say that comparing App Store commissions to microstock commissions directly could be misleading

Update.  Among 7 youtube videos I filed claim for copyright infringement, 6 were removed.  Probably the one that remains was legitimately purchased by the poster.  But I don't think he has the right to post it on YouTube on its entirety.  It has 100k views in less than 2 years and many on comment section claimed they downloaded to use for their projects.

I think the only way he could do this with clips is buying the exclusive rights of the for ever. Pretty sure he doesn't do that..   I think only Dreamstime sells such license if you allow it specifically

Logging in on the website, the unfinished files look like this:

Thank you all for the kind feedback. All well noted. And what about StoryBlocks, complete waste of time?

Stay away from that, that is an unlimited sub site...

@Desintegrator

Yes, that's still the strategy.
Because they are blocking some requests (obviously they won't block the requests from your normal browsing because they're aiming at blocking "bots")
They probably do not realize that their blocking does more harm (prevents contributors from submitting content) than good.

As of the metadata - they're filling it automatically (incorrectly) and it won't be correct until StockSubmitter can submit them.

I'm just confused what to say to them without mentioning SS, as i can submit files using the web page.

But i'll try something

16

is it still the strategy if i have no problem using the site from a web browser?
The sympthom in Stocksubmitter is that the list of files to submit comes up, te the process is unsuccessful in the end. After checking things on the website i've found that Stocksubmitter could enter all the metadata for the videos and it's saved, with categories and everything, just the file is still not submitted

hm.. actually it was not true..  unfortunately all the files have the metadata of one particular video entered, so all are wrong except one

Submitting videos to Dreamstime doesn't work. "Error parsing the site"

They've started blocking access randomly.

Please try contacting them and telling them that you're receiving an access denied error when you try to open their website.
Do not mention StockSubmitter though :)

Is there anything to do about these Adobe verification codes haveng to be entered from emails several times a day?  It started a few day ago, and makes work really frustrating. I had the check my email and copy it around four times just in the post one hour.

You should be able to change your verification settings for your Adobe ID through account.adobe.com

One logged in, click Password and Security in the profile tab
The Password and Security screen, click Manage on Two-step verification

There you can set the authentication to go through your phone or through an app

-Mat

Thanks for the answer!
Unfortunately it could not solve this. I've checked my account settings and two step verification was turned off to begin with.

Are you using SS or M+?

SS

Actually in the last few days it was tolerable, i only had to enter it once a day (it would still be great not having to), but there were cases when i had to do it 4 times an hour and such

Adobe Stock / Re: Statistics
« on: June 26, 2020, 15:19 »
You can select past dates, but no more than 13 months in one go.

Their stats reporting is terrible and hasn't been improved in a long time (which leads me to believe they don't give this any priority), but you can get there if you do it year by year

I agree, the 13 month limit is not ideal. We are aware our statistics tools have a lot of room for improvement. There are resources dedicated to this needed improvement and I'll be sure to update MSG when that happens.

Thanks for your patience!

Mat

I would be already happy if you just restore the previous functionality. It worked very well up until 1-2 months ago. Used to be my favourite statistics tool on microstock sites

Will we get back the possibility of long term annual statistics?

It was taken away a few month ago and i really miss it.

And even for quarterly statistics the 13 month limit is extremely limiting. In my opinion it renders the statistics page almost useless

24
In my case, earning drops are not very severe, June will probably be below average month but it does not seem tragical so far. Average price per image dropped a lot but the amount of sales increased. Nevertheless, there is still small amount of data to do better conclusions. Have not disabled whole portfolio but will disable videos at first (considering images as well).

Don't forget that this new system allows SS to discount as much as they want, to grab market share from agencies paying more fairly!

Video Equipment / Sofware / Technique / A video from Iceland
« on: June 11, 2020, 06:36 »

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8DmeMgO3aQ

Some videos from a trip in Southern Iceland, May 2018. Somewhat messy, there is no clear concept, some nice placea, also has a few parts mainly just for memories of the trip with friends. 22 minutes.

1Dx mk II with 16-35, 24-105, 100-400
Dji Mavic pro (sadly still the old version, with pretty weak camera...)
Set it to 1440p the least, Youtube compression ruins quite a lot things.
