Pond5 / Re: I don't like the POND5 search engine...
« on: July 20, 2017, 06:44 »
Hello everybody!
I was just fiddling around the other day on P5 with their search engine and while doing that I've encountered one small problem (at least for me).
It shouldn't be a surprise that peeps try to get the best value for their money. When thay have to choose between for example 1080P clip priced at 30$ and a very simillar 4K clip at 55$ for 4K and 27$ for 1080P they would probably take the downscaled 4K version. But that's difficult...
I just wanted to say that if someone sets a price limit on P5 for example for 49$ he/she will only get results that are native 1080P or smaller. The search engine won't show downscaled 4K clips available in that price range.
What do you think about all of this? Personally it drives me crazy  >:(

I reported it as a bug more than 3 years ago. Have followed up a few times since. Still hasn't been fixed, so I gave up any hope of it being fixed a long time ago. Along with a couple of other bugs that have been more than 3 years without a fix.

Pond5 / Re: The first Pond5 Global Partner is here: Adobe
« on: April 26, 2017, 09:09 »

As part of our previously announced Global Partner Program, Pond5 has officially signed eight hand-selected distribution partners, including a new partnership with Adobe, the industry-leader in creative desktop and mobile apps.

Sure would like to know exactly who the "eight hand-selected distribution partners" are?

Ah, good old "exciting news" that NEVER deliver correct and complete info. After 11 years and 61 million in funding. (sigh)  ::)

p.s. Maybe they are desperate for acquisition at this point?

Pond5 / Re: new model release form with 2 witnesses???
« on: April 21, 2017, 06:16 »
there is a new model release form for pond5.

there are 2 spaces for witness and witness signature, on both the adult and minor release

makes no sense.

And the quick answer from Pond5 team is:

"We require 1 witness signature but this signature (witness) cannot be the artist or the model, this needs to be an additional person."

If we add VAT we are going to loose 22% they will never pay even if they should.
I address my invoice to the main office of the company in NY-USA

VAT is added to the price, so you'd still get the same amount per sale. Sure, you might lose some buyers due to the increased price, but that may or may not be around the 22% mark.

If you mean that Pond5 will never pay... well if they're charging VAT then they have to pay. There;s no guarantee they will, but as they'd get massive fines and blacklisted by the Irish government, I'd say it's more likely they'll pay then not. If you mean customers won't pay, then see above.

Even if you're based in a country where you have to charge VAT on every sale, the general consensus when it comes to charging VAT for stock media... is that if the site in question hosts your images and handles downloads and payments, then they're the one that should be charging and remitting VAT.

Complains all over....saw some on FB (attached)

"You guys have gone to crap, i don't think I will be using you anymore. 90% of the content i upload gets rejected for reasons that are COMPLETELY FALSE. Your customer service is terrible when i actually had to use it because you forgot to update the banking system for payoneer and it took you months to correct. Other stock footage companys are begging me for this content and pond5 doesn't even want it because it's supposedly blurry when it's sharp as a knife? You guys have completely gone down the drain..."

Pond5 / Re: Did Anybody Get Paid Twice?
« on: February 17, 2017, 07:36 »
They say:

"If you are unable to refund the duplicate amount by Friday, February 24, 2017, we will offset this duplicate payment against your future Pond5 sales."

That's what I will do: Not that I need those few dollars now, but they* always pay us at least a month after sales occurred, and more if we don't reach limit. This time it's the other way around.
Playing with cash flow is a wonderful thing, isn't it?

*every agency, not just Pond5

It's illegal to operate a drone within five miles of an airport. There are about 5,000 airports in the U.S. Make sure you're not near an aiport when you shoot something with a drone. It may be more difficult to avoid an aiport than you think. There are guys flying drones around a public park near my house where I walk my dogs, and it's a half mile from our airport. I've warned them, but they look at me like i'm crazy and just go right on flying them. I really don't want their stupid drones causing a plane to crash into my house. Next guy gets photographed and reported to the FAA.

It looks like birds have really hard time flying over your house.

NOT funny!

Well they did reply, premade and very exhaustive but nothing for me specifically

Hi

We are sorry to hear this. First off, we would like to thank you for being a contributor with us. We would like to also provide you with some nuggets of knowledge, regarding helping raise your exposure and ultimately, your revenues on our site.

If you have more high-quality media, definitely continue uploading more of your work. Our customers know what's good, and the larger your high-quality collection, the more recognition you can have with our community. Buyers are always hungry for amazing content!

For your clips to be easily found, accurate rich info in titles, descriptions and keywords are helpful. How you title and keyword your work isvery important. If you spam your keywords or titles, it will only hurt your visibility. So doing this in more detail, butACCURATELY has a significant 60% SEO weight on the search results.

We also, always recommend that you promote your work, to up your exposure. You can create a Collection bin showcasing your footage, and then simply copy the link, to add that to your website or social outlet. Here is a link to our Knowledge Base article explaining this: What are Collections?

Another option, is just to simply post links of your clips and distribute all over the internet. You can even add some of your clips to our "free clip promotion", for this will also help get your name out there.

Next, you are welcome to explore through our Artist Resources page. Here you will find tons of very valuable metric information, such as what kinds of files comprise what percentage of the sites sales, the most commonly searched key words, and so much more information that we think are useful for our artists.

Lastly, if you use your Referral Links, you can even make 5% on all purchases or sales made for the first year of people who sign up using the links you give them. That's another way of thanking you, for sharing Pond5 with your friends!

We hope this helps. Please let us know if you have anymore questions.

HA HA...if ONLY they read your email about IMAGES not selling and not clips... but hey you ve got a standard template reply, and if after THIS you still upload images on, then there is more definitely something wrong with you.  ;-)
Best of luck!

What am i doing wrong on Pond5?

People don't go to Pond5 to buy images, they go there to buy footage and music.
Images is just something they added there but those customers are used to Shutterstock and the others.

Don't bother uploading images! Look at their home page...ONLY VIDEO advertised!
"Find inspiration by searching the largest library of royalty-free HD and 4k stock video"

Pond5 / Re: Minimum prices at Pond5
« on: October 09, 2016, 04:03 »
Actually, my impression is the exact opposite, lots of hobbyists  totally overpricing their clips.

If you offer quality files for high prices customers will understand, but the endless sunsets, holiday snapshots and pet videos for 200 dollars?

A pro can distinguish what is high and low quality from his output and price accordingly.

Also pond5 does not offer the customer the option to buy a smaller, web resolution file for less than dollars like other agencies do.

I do this for a living, to be able to work different levels and markets is crucial if you do stock full time.

There is no "one price is right for everyone" solution. Just like there isn't just one stock picture or video for a situation.

I am always interested in real data, though.

So I would love to see numbers from the membership sales.

How many files are being sold hundreds of times a month at 6-8 dollars?

Yeah...that's the right question!

Pond5 / Re: Pond5 EL for 149$
« on: September 29, 2016, 00:52 »
It's easy to blindly applaud.  A bit more time to take a critical look.

And the same amount of time to read everything and realize it's positive news.

And a little bit more time to write useful comments such as "they tout this as a way to make more money but that's only true if they sell any"... What in the world isn't?

Perhaps I should spell out what I thought would be understood by those of us who license content through agencies. Why would you buy an extended license from Pond 5 at prices that are higher than any of the other microstock agencies. If they have unique content at Pond 5 that might work, but when you can buy the same extended license for $100 elsewhere, why pay more at Pond5?

If you looked at the list of "good news" that's been trotted out over the last few years, very little of which has panned out as advertised, it might not be surprising to read some skepticism.  Possibly Pond5 thinks it can grab buyers from Getty or other higher priced agencies where the price won't seem so out of line.

Anyone can put a high price tag on anything - it's getting buyers to pay that price that's the trick. I just don't see how Pond5 can pull that off (the selling part, not the price tag part). Time will tell.

Exactly that!

After 10 years of existence they finally "invented" sales and promising us $$$$$.  ::)

Trust is what counts, and buyers know that well too. How do we trust they are capable of this project after failing so many?

Experimenting continuous. Help them play around more folks!  ;)

Pond5 / Re: Pond5 "verify your account" = real ?
« on: August 12, 2016, 06:00 »
I already got a reply from Pond5 :  it's an official request for verification from Pond5.  Oh well, I better be just a bit too paranoide than get my account(s) hacked  ;D

Reason for verification :  they need to know if I'm a real photographer, so they wanted some proof (like my official website, screenshot of my workspace etc.).  I've been with Pond5 since 2011 ...

So this email address is theirs?
[email protected]
 :o  :o  :o

Yes, that's what they confirmed.  As if they WANT me to think it's a phishing mail  :o
Anyway, after I did click the suspicious button, all they asked for was proof that I was a photographer (I gave my website address, any one can find that on google), and they did not ask for any password or so (which one would expect from a hacker).

Ha ha...What a joke!
One got to wonder how many fraudulent accounts exist on their web site.  ::)

I want him to instantly triple our sales

Yes, but he didn't want to reveal any sales data. So we guess it's sinking. :-(

First let him learn what stock media is and hope he won't be "Jack of all trades, master of none" (considering all the titles he hold).  ;)

Also this from TC - "Pond5 founder Tom Bennett was not immediately available for an interview about the changing of the guard. Accel Partners John Locke, an investor in Pond5s Series A round, said Coming of age is a good description for whats going on here.

Meaning, Investors want them to grow up and we know what that means! :-)

Time will tell.  8)

"But the CEO declined to disclose any sales data."

Interesting facts:

Jason (41, 3 kids) holded more-less every single title in his career - used to be COO, CMO, SVP, VP, General Manager, Director... He spent 8 years with American Express and 6 years at http://www.web.com/

No experience with stock media, as per his LinkedIn profile.

And in June 2016 he sold 30K of shares at web.com - http://www.franklinindependent.com/web-com-group-inc-nasdaqwebs-insider-jason-teichman-unloaded-30000-shares/

His earnings in 2015, $1.42 million - http://executives.findthecompany.com/l/63311/Mr-Jason-Teichman

Ex CEO Ryan Scott who served for 1 year only left P5.
