Alamy.com / Re: Alamy Mass Downloads - AGAIN?
« on: December 29, 2022, 17:40 »
Only sales I get now are these insulting penny sales.  I did not mind few sales with better rate but now, I really do not think it is worth uploading to this agency.

Might as well work with Istock than this mess :( :( :(

Adobe Stock / Re: Adobe Rejects
« on: December 29, 2022, 17:35 »
This issue often seems to be one reviewer (or if with AI, where AI uses sample) and it tends to rotate per agency.  For seemingly forever, all images accepted then one batch gets unusual rejections.  Images shot with tripod in same studio with same lighting, exposure, etc as others that have been accepted for years.

Unfortunately, this seems to happen on Adobe but it also happens at other agencies.  The most annoying aspect is Adobe rejections just says "technical".  I have to wonder if the reviewers there had to identify what technical issue there would be less of this random craziness.  In any case, the vague reason does nothing to help contributors in future.

One wonders if the vague category technical issues encourages bogus reviews... not like reviewer has to actually identify why/show knowledge of technical standards.

AI might be better except that/if it does not take into account what is main subject if not in typical place (like ones with copy space to left or right when blurring background with open aperature is nice).

It is just annoying to waste time uploading images -- esp when paid so little -- when an agency goes through these cycles.

Something is not right when one has very high acceptance rate and then suddenly a batch or two are mostly rejected esp if studio conditions same (but NOT similar subjects).

Adobe Stock / AS rejections
« on: August 01, 2022, 15:14 »
Typically I take rejections and move on.  My acceptance rate is 95-100% with different agencies.  My acceptance rate from AS was closer to 100% than 95%.  Suddenly, out of the blue I am receiving rejections of images that are accepted EVERYWHERE else.  Bogus mark of technical issues.  Focus at 100% (even at 200%!) and exposure etc are perfect.  Same studio.  Not like suddenly all is changed. No noise.  Shot at 100 ISO on tripod.

So we all know AS rejection categories are not that specific.
Not similar subjects.  Not subjects that have tons of images already there but not niche area either.
Not even that not of commercial value.  Of course the images DO sell with other agencies.

Beyond frustrating.  Yes move on, wait til the new reviewer(s) move on.

It seems like there is a reviewer or three that move between agencies that just reject things because.  A year or so it was SS and then stops just as suddenly.  Just frustrating.

Most of the agencies seem to have incompetent reviewers.... out of focus/motion blur-- nope.  Technical error-- nope.  Poor composition- nope -- from reviewer who has no clue what composition is.  Similar image-- nope one is a macro  -- totally different.  Just move on-- they do sell at agencies where accepted-- rejecting agency's loss.

Not uploading any more images.  All I am getting is $0.05 sales or less.  If there are no decent sales like I once had soon I will close acct.

I had a bunch of $0.05 sales -- not worth uploading there anymore.
Worse than Istock and worse than SS now in terms of worthless sales.

No one is saying Android isn't a popular platform, but what we are saying is that with the photographers we work with, Apple iOS is far more popular.

well, the reason for that is photographers who use Android platform CANNOT use it so do not bother.

Photoshop Discussion / PS Update a big mistake
« on: May 28, 2022, 20:42 »
I have been using the 2019 version of PS for years because I like the tools.

I finally updated to newest version of PS-- big mistake!
First I got constant notice hat I needed to update driver.
Did that-- still getting error message on driver.  Now have latest driver available from 2022.
Has anyone else encountered this?

Hate the new cursors for tools.  Right now the new version makes my computer sooooo slow.  Fairly fast computer-- a gaming computer with lots of RAM.

I really dread having to spend forever with PS customer service trying to get back the older version.

Adobe Stock / Re: strange rejections
« on: May 12, 2022, 18:00 »
Many of the rejections for technical reasons are bogus.  When you shoot in studio with same light, same aperature, same focus etc etc and not similar image at all but one is rejected--- it is totally bogus.

AS not the only one.  (And what is rejected is different -- seems more important that process rejects something once in a while more than accuracy)

I am much less interested.  Not just the lower earnings but also just bored with it right now.

I have started to spend more time with my art photography.  More fun.  I may still do stock for extra change but my heart and energy are happier.

Shutterstock.com / Re: SS strict rejection policy
« on: May 04, 2022, 22:06 »
Shutterstock rejections have become absurd.  I had almost 100% acceptance there and elsewhere too.
They use out of focus or camera shake as excuse-- totally bogus.  Shot on non-moving tripod with best aperature setting.  Same studio and settings as all the others they accept in studio.  I look at my photos at 200%-- yep, in focus and no camera shake and accepted by place stricter than SS.

I do have to agree, for 10 cents, for most sales no matter what level, SS does not deserve most of the technical qualities they expect.

Wow.  Thanks for sharing this and your thoughts.
I am glad I have started to spend time more on my art photography.

Thanks everyone.   Just surprised me because typically get higher.  Sales there are increasing.

Interestingly, I ended up in discussion with a woman who uses stock for the communications of local organization.  Dreamstime is the agency used, not the others.

Nothing below 35cents.

Could this be a tax withholding issue?

No, not tax withholding issue.

I have recently had sales where I receive $0.30 ans $0.15.  Until now, all my sales were $0.35 or $2.00.

Anyone else?

While ordinary Russian civilians are not Putin, the fact is that their country invaded a peaceful sovereign country and there are horrible war crimes against civilians, women and children going on.

Many Russians are choosing to leave Russia, especially those with talent, because they do not want to be a part of a country that commits such atrocities and is cracking down so much on its own people.  Perhaps Russian photographers/filmmakers should consider doing the same as they are talented and have a talent to give to the world hopefully for the good of the world.

Most companies in US and elsewhere have decided to not to do business with Russia period and more every day.  Russia has become a terrorist state.  I have no problem at all with companies choosing not to business with Russia and hope more like Alamy choose to do the same.

Recently some of my photos have been selling on some sites that do not mark place of sles that could be being used for conspiracy theory/false flag fake news accusing Ukraine of things they have not done.  My images have nothing to do with Ukraine or Russia and were not shot there... but I find it odd  that they are selling now after hearing some of the lies Russia is now saying.

It is ok to use my photos for many things-- but this use is not ok.  The images have legitimate ways of being used and are also related to things in the news that have nothing to do with Ukraine and Russia but after hearing some of Russia's newest lies, I am concerned.

Alamy.com / Re: Alamy restrict Russian sales on request
« on: March 11, 2022, 16:32 »
Many American companies are pulling out of Russia... but stock companies are not.

I would like to opt out right now.  I have been selling a lot of photos right now that I suspect might be being used, if they are sold in Russia/China, to creating false news to blame Ukraine for things RUssia has done/might do.

Generally I have accepted that I cannot control the use of my images if I sell on stock.  But given the fact that most US companies ARE pulling out of Russia AND that I can see some of my images being misused to accuse Ukraine of war crimes, I am not happy.

yes facial recognition usage may offend models more than anything else.

I enjoy my travel and immersion in nature

yes, Marthamarks.  I tend to photograph close to home for many reasons but same.
I have actually been getting in touch more with my art roots from past and might start exhibiting again.  Stock has helped me improve my technical skills as I moved from film to digital and it has opened me up to shooting things I might have not seen or thought of photographing before, keeps me shooting, but I do not have the joy I have doing it as I do with my art.

Adobe Stock / Re: Adobe Stock Sales are so slow this days
« on: October 09, 2021, 22:58 »
yes, big slowdown for me.  Sept- October is usually one of my best periods too so depressing.  None of my best photos are in the free section but they are not selling on AS but are elsewhere.   Overall I do think free section is hurting sales.  AS used to be one of my best venues but since the free stuff is there, it is sliding to almost worst in terms of sales.  Shocking. Big portfolio and upload continually.

23
I hope to just start shooting what I love more and more.
Stock does not pay enough to do otherwise.

Sometimes writers have a different name if they write in a different genre so that their fans do not buy a book of one genre and then get a different genre they do not like...and then complain because reader did not read blurb before buying and trash the book in a book review
