iStockPhoto.com / Re: DeepMeta terrible lagging issue
« on: November 20, 2021, 16:21 »
I suffer with its basic objective itself. What good software is if we have to all meta data manually. I have CSV file for large batch. But neither deepmeta or esp site seem to accept any format.

Many users are importing CSV files in DeepMeta and gaining a lo of time by not having to enter everything manually.

Are you following the instructions from the DeepMeta website?
https://www.deepmeta.com/getting-started/adding-files (Last section, named "Import metadata from CSV file")

Remember you can always contact me directly if it doesn't work: support @ deepmeta . com

« on: November 26, 2020, 01:12 »
Yes, I got the same issue. I don't know the IS forums, so if someone knows the reason I'd appreciate if they could post it here as well. Thanks!

How about I explain you how to access the IS forum then? 8)

So you're on the Getty ESP site and are looking at your views/interactions and see the message "It appears you have no activity in the last 30 days."
Right?
At the top-right of the page: click "Contributor Community". When arrived at that page: click "Forum" in the left hand navigation.
That's it.

In the forum "IStock Help", there's a topic "iStock ISSUES": it gives the latest info on things that currently work and don't work, and when they're expected to be fixed.

OK, so now for your question: the View/Interaction statistics have been broken for the last few weeks, and yesterday iStock has managed to bring them back.
So try again now: you should be able to see them.

I'm personally glad they are back. Now that I'm uploading more, it's great to get some early feedback to see which of the newer work is getting attention.
Happy uploading!

Sorry, I cannot give an idea on the timing. Still tons of other wishes on the list and priorities shift all the time.

Having items in lists of DeepMeta color-coded has been asked before, and for varying criteria.
Adding this feature is on the list, but will have to be flexible enough to cater for all types of wishes.

Until then, you have a few options:

- In the DeepMeta "Sales" section, you can click on the header of the "File type" column, to sort by type (image, video, illustration, ...). This makes it easier to find your video files.

- In the DeepMeta "Statistics" section (then select the "sales" filter button at the top), you have many ways to view your sales data. In one of the dropdown lists of the "donut" charts, select "File type", and the chart will show the different types: image, video, ... If you then click the "video" segment, all other charts will update to show only your video sales.

It's much easier than it sounds, and I suggest to have a look at the video at the bottom of https://www.deepmeta.com/getting-started/statistics to see some examples.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Disambiguation / Deep Meta
« on: August 03, 2020, 03:06 »
That's correct. They still are searchable, so you're doing the right thing.
I have to do this for local place names as well. None of these are in the CV and I guess Getty can't add all possible local place names of the world in the CV.

The only limitation is that these "candidate terms" as they are called, are not translated into different languages. Again not a problem for place names.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Deep Meta query. Help please.
« on: July 25, 2019, 03:46 »
A bit late to the party, but yes, DeepMeta does keep track of the number of files in a batch and won't let you add more than the max 100, imposed by Getty.

It's possible that DeepMeta does not have the latest info on number of files in a batch, e.g. when you added images directly at the ESP site, and did not sync DeepMeta afterwards. (just one possible scenario).

There is a very simply way to move files from one batch to another (or new) one: just select the files in the file list, right-click and select "Move". This opens the "Move window", where you can select the batch to move the files to, or create a new batch.

This feature is also very handy for changing the batch type. Say you had a bunch of "Creative Image" files rejected with notice "better as editorial", then in DeepMeta, select these files, move to a new batch of type "Editorial Image" and resubmit. Takes less than a minute.

This feature is relatively new and not well known, so I might create a small video on this topic.

Just try it out yourself ;)

Do some searches at the iStock site. I did this recently, and at the left hand side, there are options to show only Creative, only Editorial or both (see attached screenshot).

iStock has a very good article on this topic:
https://contributors.gettyimages.com/article.aspx?article_id=4837

The article has many helpful examples and also a section on what they call "Illustrative Editorial", where you try to portray a concept.

As opposed to Getty editorial, iStock does not take "cutting edge" or newsworthy editorial content. You need to think "timeless editorial", in the sense of "a typical day at the busiest shopping street in city XXX". Things used by newspapers, magazines and travel sites.

I've been contemplating iStock editorial myself, recently, and am trying to figure out how to choose between editorial and creative.
It's not a simple as "submit as editorial if you can't get a model release", as I used to think ;)

Also, the image still has to be of good technical quality, though of course the bar has moved pretty low over the last years for all microstock agencies...
The time where we were spending our time fixing chromatic aberration at the pixel level is definitely a thing of the past.

Doing searches at the iStock site for editorial and some topics and concepts you're interested in, is an interesting way to learn, and that's what I'll be doing myself.

Good luck ;)

How long does it take after IS add a word to their vocabulary for it to appear in DM please?

I don't know what the delay is between Getty staff adding a new keyword and having it appear as an option on the ESP site.
All I can say is that as soon as it appears as option at ESP, it's also available in DeepMeta. For each keyword that you enter in DeepMeta, it performs a live lookup at the ESP server, so the 2 are in sync.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Latest DeepMeta 3

Franky, I have one suggestion.
When adding keywords to selected, multi, files it will be great to have 2 options:
- add keywords to all selected images - existing solution
- add keywords only images where the keyword was present - new option. For example if 'background' is present in all selected images this word will be added. But 'yellow' and 'red' which are in 2 individual images will be added only once.
Thanks.

I got a similar question/suggestion on a different forum.
It makes a lot of sense.
The current system is great if you're manually adding keywords. In that case, you likely expect the keywords you enter + disambiguate to be added to all selected images.

However, in workflows like you probably have, where keywords are already in the IPTC data, you just want to disambiguate.
It would really speed things up if you could select all files that you added, and go through the right hand list to "bulk" disambiguate, but respecting which files had the keyword and which did not.

I guess that's what you mean, right?

I won't/can't change the default behavior, but could add the functionality with e.g. Ctrl-click or similar.

I just updated it and it works like charm. Thanks for it.  :)

I still wish that there were two buttons introduced in "to Edit" page.
1- a "Add All" button on "please refine.. (keywords)" area so that we can add the keywords in one click.
2- a "Next" navigation button to move forward to the next image to edit. Currently we need to close the window and open the next "to edit" image. Current process is little time consuming.

Thanks very much for reporting back.

Re. your suggestions:

1. "Add All" button. Not sure what you mean. Say there is a keyword with choice of 5 different meanings to refine. Would you want all these meanings to be added as keywords? (if so, I can say already that Getty would never allow this ;)

2. Very good idea. I like it! Added to my list.

I use mac. And the latest version of DeepMeta ist getting me nervous when editing photos.
Wenn i edit keywords there are accepted keywords and keywords suggestions.
The Keyword suggestions on the right are jumping in the first row when i close a suggestion at the bottom.
I don't know if this behavior has been before. But it never has been so annoying.
Also i don't need the model release window next to the keyword suggestions. Since i don't shoot models. But i can't turn it off. This is making me crazy.
It has always been so fine using DeepMeta. I cant use the ESP Side at Getty because the usability is awful. Its making me crazy.
But now the usability of DeepMeta seems to get closer to Getty.
Getty is the worst side to upload images. DeepMeta was the only comfortable way to upload to Getty.

I fully understand your frustration, and apologize for the current situation.
The jarring UI in the latest Mac version is my fault and the new version that fixes the "jumpy" keywording behavior is almost ready.

About the Release section at the right. It's a change that is actually good for users like you who never use model releases.
In previous versions, the releases were taking up precious space under the standard edit fields at the left (Getty users have a lot more fields than iStock users, sometimes up to 25!), so I was getting complaints about releases taking up space there.

You can already drag the vertical separator between keyword and release section all the way to the right, so that it doesn't bother you.
I'm planning a setting to completely hide the keyword list all together. The end result should be better for you than the old version.
The current release is a bit of a transition, and I'm sorry for the rough edges.

Thank you very much for taking the time to explain all your gripes. I take these very seriously and this kind of info is extremely helpful.

One minor irritation I find is that when I am processing (keywording etc) a batch and I want to send up SOME but not all all then, I seem to remember that previously only those that were ready to upload became available to upload. Not they all appear there and I have to click and move them across in lumps, avoiding ones being held back for one reason or another.... If you understand me.....
Also, a query please. How long after IS tells me a new keyword has been added, does it actually start to appear as an option in DM? Sometimes seems ages......
Ta.
I know what you mean!

It goes like this: the left hand upload list used to show only items that were ready to upload.
When moving from iStock to Getty ESP, a DeepMeta update accidentally started showing all non-uploaded files in that list.
I noticed this only way later and mentioned this in the forum.

Apparently, some users had started using this as a "feature", and mostly managed their files this way in the Upload section instead of the Files section ;)

From old and very recent experience, I know that changes and especially taking away something is not well received.

So there we are...

I'm considering to add a few mode buttons above the left hand Upload list to allow users to filter the files they want.
A good compromise, I think.

The worst update ever !!!!  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
How can i go back to a previous version ?

If you'd be so kind, can I ask whether you use Mac or Windows?
Also is it just the keywording that's worse (which I'm working on), or other things as well?

Thank you!

The change is that multi-edit (editing multiple images at once, the nr 1 user request) was introduced a month ago, as a feature in the right-hand preview pane (but went largely unnoticed).

With v3.12.4, the same functionality is available in the main popup window.

There are some UI performance issues with keywording though, and thanks to all users who have reported this.
I apologize for this degradation in editing speed and I'm working on fixing this in the next release.
Should be available in the next few days. Thanks for your patience!

There's a video explaining multi-edit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHp7DKxyc2g
It shows the feature in the right hand pane, but it works exactly the same in the popup window now.

@JetCityImage: just to make sure, besides the keywording, is anything else slower than usual?
thx.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: DeepMeta editorial batch default
« on: February 27, 2019, 03:28 »
DeepMeta always suggest the batch type that you last created. At the very first start, it defaults to "Creative Image".

I'm guessing you once clicked the "Editorial Image" type by accident when creating a batch.
Since then, it uses this as default, since that's the last type you created ;)

For your next batch, make sure to select "Creative Image", and it will suggest this type for all your future batches.

I figured this is the best way to handle the default. If DeepMeta would always suggest "Creative Image", then users who mostly do Editorial would complain ;)

Thanks for letting me know your experience in detail. Always looking at improving the software and making it as intuitive as possible.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Getty Connect In Deep Meta
« on: February 22, 2019, 03:25 »
Sure.
In DeepMeta, go to the Sales section and type connect in the top right search bar. All your connect sales are shown, along with your received royalty.

It's usually around $0.001, but I've had connect sales for videos of $2.5
Much it ain't, but see it as an extra. The Connect program is an attempt to serve customers in a more contemporary/internet-centered way. At least, that's my take on it.

Here's a link to the official explanation: https://contributors.gettyimages.com/HelpArticle.aspx?article_id=5176

Excerpt:

In the Royalties tab in Account Management, you will have an option to view a Connect statement.

Connect is a solution we offer to customers that allow them to embed Getty Images content, metadata and search functionality directly inside their tools, products and services. For example, through Connect we can collect royalties on views of Getty Images content.

Yes, the link posted by JetCityImage is the official one.

With the move to ESP, editorials now need to be upload together in a batch that's specific to "Editorial images". You cannot mix Creative and Editorial in one batch.

In DeepMeta when you create a batch, select "Editorial Image":

The latest version of DeepMeta also adds a very useful feature, called "Multi-Edit", allowing you to edit multiple files at the same time, with support for Undo/Redo.
