Tracking and removing logos is a VFX.  Coming from the Adobe side, that's a job best served by After Effects, but Premiere Pro can do a lot of it as well.

DaVinci is a good free option. If you're a mac person, then try imovie (though I don't know if does tracking)

Newbie Discussion / Re: H264 or H265
« on: February 06, 2020, 09:14 »
If you're talking about quality, it would be H.265 otherwise known as HEVC.

For submission to Stock and other agencies, H.264 is still very safe and much more common.  Laptop computers and NLEs are just starting to be able to play back h265 effectively.

I'd like to accept h265 at some point because it is a higher quality codec, but as of today the market still like h264 and large codecs like prores.

Hope this helps,
Dennis

I have all kinds of "editorial only" images and videos and they sell well.
I do not understand why Adobe is not accepting editorial the same way another agencies do.
Years ago Istock removed news and events content and stoped accepting it. They didn't want to cannibalize their Getty library.
Adobe removed and stopped accepting some events contend I had credentials for. Why?! Is it because of petential lawsuit? Why other agencies accept and sell the same content without any problems?

Adobe accept Illustrative editorial images, but not for video.  I am hopeful that we'll expand this as time goes on and certainly from my point of view, I want to include video in that mix.

Thanks for the response.

Selecting video thumbnails should be a must.
I'm trying to crossover from illustrations to animations and the few I have uploaded have terrible thumbnails on Adobestock! :'( If the animation starts with just a few things/lines/shapes/etc. and later is coming together as a whole (self-drawing lines for example, but really anything else), the thumbnail tends to end up an early keyframe with barely anything recognizable, probably noone would even move the cursor over to check it out, it is that unappealing! It really harms the likeliness of getting seen and from a buyer perspective would be annoying as well; just by looking at the thumbnail they would want to know what is it about and they should see the most favourable keyframe in order to maximize the chance of a sale. I can't emphasize the importance of it enough, in my case this tiny issue "costs" a lot.

Yes, I have some of my own meager clips that have terrible thumbnails and have brought this up multiple times.  I think we'll see some movement on this particular issue in 2020 - no promises, but I hope so!

Ditto on editorial, both still and video. You're missing a huge market.

Once again, I totally agree.

I'm curious on how people view the kinds of editorial and which ones everyone does.  The way I see it is:
1) current entertainment, news and sports (places like AP, Reuters and the like)
2) crowd sourced editorial (content that has some IP somewhere but is an otherwise typical shot)
3) archival - anything old or semi-old that has some historical or storytelling value
4) brands or illustrative editorial - we currently accept illustrative editorial pictures (things like logos, brands, etc)

Which ones do you have and which ones generate the most revenue?  Also, if you have both commercial and editorial, what is the percentage split between your commercial and editorial collections - both in terms of content size and revenue?  For example, a collection is 5k clips total with a 3k/2k split between editorial and commercial and my revenue split is 70/30 in favor of editorial.

Thanks,
Dennis

Issues? Opportunities?
Reading embedded metadata directly from video files, like Pond5 does, will be great.

They do.  Mine comes through fine.

Responding to a few responses on this one and will still be relatively brief.

The challenge is that many people have different workflows (across contributors, agencies, etc.) and to make a change in workflow truly effective, everyone needs to get behind it.

I love embedded metadata and do advocate for it for video.  Adobe created XMP which is a flexible system that includes standard schemas like EXIF and IPTC which is where photos draws some support.

While I agree that CSVs are the lowest common denominator, they still work and are accepted across the industry.  For that reason alone, I think CSV's are probably still around for a while.  However, there are voices advocating for more embedded metadata.

Thanks for the feedback.

you're "offering feedback" based on account?!?!
grow up man, take responsibility, there's 3 different contributors here who share the same story.
You're trying to flip it on us.
We don't need your feedback, we are doing great in other marketplaces.

Look into your data, your search algorithms, then look at your competitors, and give yourself honest feedback.
(This applies to your perception of the amazing templates AS has, for real!? did you ever look at VideoHive / Pond5 ?!
Adobe Stock Templates are mediocre, so lame.
But hey, don't trust my opinion, Do a survey , ask your users, ask your friends, are you willing to listen to what they'll tell you? or will you ask them for their accountID too?.
Heck, even Template Monster, Storyblocks and MotionArray have better templates for sale)

It feels as if you're here on these forums only to impress your superiors in their cubicles...
"Look guys, I asked around in the forums and I've done my job for today, can I go back home?"

Wow, turned on the flames....  No worries...

I think what I'm trying to do here is stay connected and provide input where I can.  Being on any forum is a bit of a scattered approach (and I say this as a person who has frequented forums for nigh on 2 decades.)  Do I need to do this for my superiors?  Heck, no.

My answers are kindly meant and to be helpful.  Sorry that you don't think so.

Do we look into data, search, etc.  Yes, every day.  Do I look at my competitors?  Yes, every day.

Can I please everyone?  Clearly not, but I'll keep trying.  8)

My SS account sells daily 2-5 videos. My pond5 sells daily 1 video at least.
My Adobe stock account sells 2-4 videos a month.
Is this a lack of advertising? I am not a pro in the other side of how this business works, but I would say that the best investment in your contributors is to attract the clients.

You can message me your account Id and I can take a look into it.  Why some people do better or worse on one site or another over a month or a year is always going to be a mystery.  Generally, I think that most contributors are seeing growth from Adobe, though certainly not all.

Send me your number or email via DM and I'll try to take a look for you.

Dennis

I don't believe there is any issue with my account.
My SS and AS accounts both have the same content. About 15k aerial videos and timelapses/hyperlapses from all around the world. But in 3+ years my AS account sold 2000$ overall, while my SS account is selling the same amount in an average month.
Of course there are much worse stocks then AS, but I left those years ago. And AS just keeps me frustrated, I ask myself again and again, does it even worth keeping uploading to AS content, because I am waiting for a long time that AS will start kicking, and actually there was a small period that my AS account sold almost daily, but for some reason this stopped almost completely and again I am back to have a sale once a week or two, or even less.
Can this be related with investing in promotion?

Right, I hear you.  Let me know what your account is so I can take a look and potentially offer some input.  There are understandably a ton of variables.  If you let me know your account, I can at least take a look and perhaps offer some feedback on why you trail as compared to others.

Thanks,
Dennis

One or more webminar  (like the ones you've already did) about the right and useful keywords to use for video would be really helpful!
Learning more about what exactly buyers use, words and sentence, to reach what they are looking for, this would be a great help.
Thanks

+1

Q&A with the team that manages the AS search engine would be useful too :)

My thoughts in no particular order:
1. Ability to pick a thumbnail at the time of upload / later
2. Seeing how many times items from a particular collection sold (and for how much)- something like SS already does: "Collection XYZ; 300 files, 15 sales, 297,74$ total"
3. Better way for batch editing keywords / titles on clips that are already online (ability to update them via CSV) and title/keyword database reindexing every X months / once a year (now from what I know even if we edit keywords, change their placement it does absolutely nothing- correct me if I'm wrong)
4. 2/3 warnings before an account gets blocked for uploading "simillar files"- it seemed like a big problem few months earlier here on the forums.
5. Analytics!!!1 (what searches, words made the sale, item views etc.)

Some good requests there - can't disagree with any of them and almost all are ones that we're looking into for the future.

Thanks for the feedback.

Sorry, maybe not quite in the topic, but I have one request: Could you please make a mobile app where we can track our earnings on the go and which keeps us up to date on our latest downloads. Greatly appreciate knowing you guys are here to help us.  :)

Actually, I am a HUGE proponent of making a mobile app both for contributing and for monitoring sales, releases, everything.  We have all of the technology necessary, but as with anything, it's a question of which priorities come first.

Trust me on this when I say that I really want this request to come true and I believe it will in time.

Thanks,
Dennis

4. subscription option. (personally hate it, but its impossible now when shutterstock, pond5, envato & istockphoto are selling it for nothing)
We don't need any subscriptions!!! Adobe like ss is doing pretty well without it..

like I said, a wholly different topic - one that will have fiery responses!

1. open up the template market, right now the mogrt templates look very outdated and unprofessional.
2. more traffic. whatever it is you're doing, it's not enough.
3. thumbnails, yes, maybe if every person insists on it, you will finally get to it (should've been the first thing)
4. subscription option. (personally hate it, but its impossible now when shutterstock, pond5, envato & istockphoto are selling it for nothing)

1 - Wholly disagree!  Our templates look awesome and honestly if I didn't believe that, I'd cop to it.  Mogrts as a whole are doing awesome and answer a distinct need in the market.  That said, we do need one key feature and I've pushed for it and hope we get it this year.  We'll see.
2 - Traffic is good, but agree.  If you can have more, we want it as much as you.
3 - Agreed
4 - Whole different conversation!

Editorial still images and footage would be awesome.

1. Select video thumbnails.
2. Upload editorial.

Both are on my list and I think you'll get both of them.

Of the two, I think editorial is much more impactful to contributors and customers.

Thanks for the feedback.

Dennis

We support Illustrative editorial images today (logos, brands, etc.)

Hey guys,

Haven't been monitoring this as often because of Adobe winter break (and the holidays).  We're back at it and I just want to check in and hear what we can do to make an impact for you and the industry in 2020.

Issues? Opportunities?

Wishing everyone a profitable and successful 2020.

Oh, and if anyone wants to connect on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/dennisradeke/  That's my only real form of "social" media.

Instead of using someone that doesn't know his/her head from his/her tail AS actually hired an experienced stock contributor to communicate with us. Someone who knows his craft well and is always around to keep us updated or help us receive further assistance.
Well maybe I'm giving you more credit then you deserve but I just had to mention this.

I think I can speak on behalf of many here, thanks for being around Mat, much appreciated!

LOL! I can't breathe!  nice pic

I think generally, we're always on the look out for good authentic content that represents all kinds of holidays.

On the video side, we're definitely looking for solid content that is authentic.

Congrats on the uptick in holiday sales.

Adobe Stock / Re: Why can't my account use Adobe Stock
« on: December 06, 2019, 09:26 »
You probably need to provide some more information to understand why you're not able to access Stock.

First guess might be that you're in a country where you can't get it?

Adobe Stock subscriptions for Creative Cloud teams may be purchased at any Adobe reseller. Adobe Stock subscriptions and licenses for individuals may be purchased online in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, the UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Russia, Brazil, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Switzerland, Finland, Luxembourg, Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Poland, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Malta, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Cyprus, India, Hong Kong, Singapore, Philippines, Thailand, and Taiwan.

Otherwise, this might be a good place to start: https://helpx.adobe.com/stock/help/plans.html

Hope this helps and if it doesn't, could you please verify that you have an Adobe ID and that you're logged in when accessing the Stock page.  Also, if you're in a company or have any kinds of access restrictions on your internet connection, that could be it too.

Cheers,
Dennis

As always, it depends on the image or video clip and what story (if any) it is telling.  And, to be honest, moderators are looking at thousands of assets every day and so like any agency we don't always get it 100% correct all of the time.  Wish I could say otherwise, but that's the truth.

For video, I have challenges in trying to get moderators to differentiate between a good rack focus and being out of focus.  And some wandering focus can be okay if it's done well.  Sigh, there's never any perfect method, but we're working on improving guidelines and continually train our moderators on what's appropriate to accept.

I dont know why, maybe the Fotalia ending, who knows...

I can't speak as to why sales are lower for you now, but Stock sales has far exceeded Fotolia for some time.  Trust me - I have watched it for a few years.  ;)

General - Stock Video / Re: H265 vs H264
« on: November 02, 2019, 06:56 »
Hello, i've been doing some research on this two codecs, and i couldn't really decide which one is better for stock. Any suggestions much appreciated !

H.265 is significantly better in both file size and visual quality.  Think of it as a more advanced version of H.264.  However, it comes at a cost where computers need a lot more processing power to play it back.

I think there will be a move to H.265 over time, but H.264 is so ubiquitous that it will be a long time before it goes away.  Today, Adobe Stock does not support H.265, but I hope to add it some day in the future for our customers and artists.

Hope this helps,
Dennis
