These companies are run by greedy bean counters. They have a team of incompetents to adorn their contributors "squeezing even more" policies with BS. I would stay away from these suckers. Makes no sense to be their slaves

And yet we keep on submitting good work.  What . is wrong with us?

If I'm just submitting video which is/are the top video site(s)?   Thanks

General Stock Discussion / Smartphone Gimbal
« on: April 23, 2022, 20:02 »
Hello,

I don't shoot a lot of smartphone video but I recently got a gimbal for my phone.  Some of the features on the gimbal app are gimmicky but fun to use.  I've seen several videos where they say you should not use gimbal app to record and just use native camera or Filmic Pro to record video because quality is much better.  The YouTube videos I've seen are not geared toward Stock shooters.  Does anyone here submit videos shot through the gimbal's app or is video quality not acceptable.

General Stock Discussion / Re: 1080 or 4k?

Hi mino216,
So you're saying HD is higher quality than 4k on the cell phone video?  I don't really know that much about video so I'm still pretty much learning the basics.

General Stock Discussion / 1080 or 4k?
« on: March 21, 2022, 22:52 »
Hello All,
If you had the choice of shooting a video with a 1080 DSLR (Nikon D800) or a 4k cell phone (iPhone SE) which would be better choice ( as far as appealing to buyers concerned )?
Also, if you were to submit 4k from only your cell phone (not your full-frame camera) do you think you would lose out on many sales?  Since most videos of any kind are probably not viewed on 4k screens - mostly tablets, phones, laptops, etc..   In other words, since they're not being viewed on large 4k, screens would anyone notice difference between phone vs camera?  Thanks.

General Stock Discussion / 4K Video Full Frame or Crop Sensor?
« on: February 14, 2022, 00:02 »
Hello All,
I keep hearing talk about "future-proofing" your videos by submitting best quality you can such as 4k over 1080P.  I know today 1080 sells more often than 4K but down the road would 4K video be more valuable if shot on a full frame camera vs a smaller crop sensor camera?  Thanks very much.

General Stock Discussion / Re: New Mirrorless Camera
« on: September 29, 2021, 22:28 »
Hi SVH,

( I don't know how to insert quotes)

"Just think about it carefully if you are really happy with Nikon and you want to use the old lenses with the converter..."

I am happy with current lenses on DSLRs but my concern is do lenses work glitch-free with adapters/converters, even with Nikon mirrorless?  Eventually I probably would get new lenses but if old lenses work fine I can take my time switching over to newer equipment.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all replies. For Real's list was very helpful.  I'm open to other manufacturers but I would like to keep using nikon lenses I already own.  Are there any issues with adapters for Nikon lenses on non-Nikon cameras?

My old Nikon is on it's way out and I'm thinking of getting a mirrorless and was wondering what the MSG gang would recommend?  Thanks.

Alamy.com / Re: Cannot log into Alamy

Yes, I was having problems logging in yesterday.  I googled "alamy forums" and from there I got into my dashboard.  It was a weird backdoor way but I just could not log in the usual way.

How does having photos on instagram help a stock shooter make more sales/money?

14
Hello all,  I'd like to know what you guys would recommend to create your own site to sell your own OR direct buyers to agencies to buy stock images, footage, etc...  I don't want to spend much so I'd like to keep it limited to zenfolio, smugmug, sqaurespace,... type of web design.  Thanks very much.

Best comment of the month!

Meaning what?  I meant "...stick with Pond5" because they let you choose your selling price, correct?  If that's the case then they can not sell it for $1.50.

16
I'm totally new to video but comments like this make me want to stay away from shutterstock and stick with Pond5.  I'm I right on that?

Does anyone know if the DJI Spark 1080P HD video is good enough to submit stock footage or do I have to wait until I have a drone with 4K video (which is a long way off at this point)?  Will 1080P be accepted by Pond5, Shutterstock, etc...?  I realize that 4K makes a better selling point but does that mean that 1080P is useless for stock?  Does anyone here submit footage from a Spark?  Thanks.

Combined Pond5, Adobe and SS together becomes regularly, in my case. The place I actually sell most videos is from my now outdated library at iStock, but with the $0.49 it doesn't even come close to what only one sale a month would give me at Pond5.

But does SS and Adobe let you know how much they are selling your footage for before the sale is made?  Is it comparable to Pond5?  I thought SS and Adobe sold videos for much less and also took a significantly larger percentage of video sale.  I don't know for sure, maybe you could tell me.

That's what seems logical to me (assuming you can make regular sales at those prices).

21
...or is it better to spread them around and let the agency decide on price?  I've shot stills for a while but pretty new to videos.  I've read that some places are selling videos for $1.50 or thereabouts, even 4K vids.  It seems to me that it may be better if you stick with places like Pond5 since you can raise (or lower) the price to what you want.  There may be others that let you pick your price but Pond5 is the only one I'm aware of - like I said, I'm new to videos.  What do you guys think?  Thanks.

The "Photographer's Market" is still out there but I never hear anyone talk about it.  I know there's a lot of info on the internet, and it's not always up to date, etc...  but the Photographer's Market seems like a good source for searching across various categories without all the scattered info online.  So is it still useful today?

Seems like stock has always been low paying but the next year is always lower than the previous.  I'm still pretty new at this game but it seems, based on the more experienced contributors, that pattern will continue.  Yet we all keep "feeding the beast."  A lot of people quit the biz or are on the verge of quitting.  In the future, are we going to talk about today's stock market as the good old days?  So why do we keep at it?

Newbie Discussion / Anyone Use Blackbox?
« on: June 22, 2018, 02:21 »
I see several people on youtube pushing blackbox and was wondering if anyone here has any positive/negative experiences with them for videos?  Thanks.

Hi guys,

I got an email from 500px basically telling me how excited they are to join Getty Images.  Is this good, bad, or makes no difference for 500px contributors?  Thanks
