Getty's new watermark now includes URL for that specific image, plus the Contributor's name, and is a box placed at lower right:

http://www.photoarchivenews.com/getty-images-new-watermark-gives-full-photo-details/?goback=.gde_144538_member_114029678

[Wonder if they'll include such info in their IS and Thinkstock images down the road? I guess stranger things have happened.]

Love the watermark. Now, if they would just have reasonable commissions, it would be an agency worth contributing to....

Photoxpress has 3 photos from my closed Fotolia account. (As I understand it, Fotolia feeds Photoxpress.)

I never donated them, or ANY Fotolia files, to Fotolia's free site/section. Until now, I thought 2 out of 3 of them were no longer available on any site!

I have screen shots of all 3 photos showing up for sale on photoxpress.

Is getting Fotolia to take them off the best I can aim for?

Off Topic / Happy Holiday photos 2011
« on: December 16, 2011, 11:38 »
I though it might be nice to have a spot to post link to a holiday image to share with fellow MSG'ers - could be one of your stock photos or not.

Above is link to one of 2 ice skaters in New York's Catskill Mountains earlier this year. Older daughter is pushing younger one around. ;) (not a stock photo, of course)

iStockPhoto.com / dealbreaker #1: Thinkstock

Thinkstock   where the contributor is literally out of the picture

dealbreaker #1: The contributor is never identified anywhere on images distributed by Thinkstock, including on the site.

The site fotooboi(dot)extra(dot)ua/.... has images, including at least one of mine, displayed online at 1300px X 870px.   (found it through images.google.com)

This wallpaper site claims to sell images on paper, film, canvas, and they appear to be easily downloadable at 1300x870 for free, though I'm not going to try.

For a Long time, I have NOT had the displayed version of the image available for sale ANYWHERE,
so there's no way they could be planning to pay me if they sell my image. (Briefly, an improved RF version is on sale on macro, so I am particularly concerned about this.)

How does one get this site to stop displaying image, especially at 1300px x 870px (and apparently offering it for sale - though the info on their site about what's for 'sale' isn't clear to me)?

(edited to correct URL related info)

Last night around 30 or 40 Alamy photography contributors met James West, the extraordinarily engaging CEO of Alamy at their DUMBO office, an area of Brooklyn a short subway ride away from Manhattan.

He and several employees shared useful and interesting information about Alamy's past, present, and plans for future. Of course, nothing was off-the-record, though some plans were just alluded to, for reasons of commonsense business timing. And at least one fellow contributor I chatted with has a port not much larger than mine. (BTW, as far as I recall, this is the first I've happened to post about Alamy here since I knew about the meeting.)

I respect Alamy even more than before, and it looks like it will be first stock agency I do specific blog post about, which is one more agency than I expected. Once it's up, I'll post link to it.

Dreamstime.com / what determines TIFF price at DT
« on: January 04, 2011, 13:00 »
For sale of same file at same level:

late December 2010 - TIFF - 20 credits (2010 credits)

early January 2011 - TIFF - 15 credits (2011 credits)

If client buys bulk credit package, is smaller number of credits needed for Tiffs?
Is there some other variable related to TIFF prices I'm not taking into account?

Alamy.com / Creative Collection at Alamy
« on: October 01, 2010, 11:24 »
Am I correct that a major plus of having one's images in Alamy's new Creative Collection is that they are included in "Creative" searches (as opposed to having images offered at different price from images not in collection)?

Computer Hardware / Calibration Settings for Monitor
« on: September 22, 2010, 17:35 »
I just switched from PC to Mac, and had to calibrate LaCie 324 monitor.
(A friend helped me with the calibration the last time, and the settings are on disconnected, nearly dead PC.)

Do below calibration settings sound right? They are ones suggested by my Blue Eye Pro:

Gamma:  2.2
White point: 6500K
Luminance: 120 cd/m2
Black point: 00 cd/m2

thanks  :)  Ann

Shutterstock.com / way to deactivate SS file without deleting it?
« on: September 17, 2010, 19:03 »
If there's a way to deactivate a specific file on SS without actually deleting the file, what is it?

I thought there was, but when I change a file's categories both to "deleted" the file still gets downloaded, so that's not it.  Thank you.

I need a recommendation of place that will professionally print a photo at least 20"x16" on decent weight paper and using good color management (or, perhaps safer, one that I can get print out of photo to, so they can match it).

It could be  either an on-line store or brick-and-mortar one in New York metropolitan or Long Island area.

If I want to avoid having to mail the framed photo, I need it all done by 12/29, so I really got myself in a fix.  :(
But if you see this after then, have a place to recommend, and I haven't posted that I'm set , I'd appreciate it if you'd post the info.

I tried adoramapix, because of some rec's and its prices, and it was fine for my earthtone and B&W photos.  But when it came to printing photo including bright, colorful flowers, the colors were flat, dull  -  which is not how they look at several agencies, or when printed by my printer, or printed at store that, sadly, uses flimsy paper  - and I tried it with "print as is" and "enhance" and got exact same result.

thank you - ann

I went to B&H NYC Superstore today to talk about next full-frame Nikkor lens I plan to buy when I can afford it.

Salesperson told me DO NOT GET ANY NIKKOR LENSES NOW - In a couple of months, Nikon's coming out with new lenses with better glass & VR.

I'll be w/o internet until end of week, so I wanted to get this down, just in case it's relevant to anyone. smiles - Ann

StockXpert.com / how to attach PR to image rejected for no PR
« on: April 20, 2008, 13:07 »
I submitted a particular (my best-seller) image to Stockxpert, and it was rejected for no Property Release, so I got and uploaded Property Release, and sent Support notification, including ID number of the rejected image.

No response for several days, so I also posted question in their "Technical Ques."   No response. So, I figured maybe I should post it in Newbie section, but now I can't even find way to submit a new post anywhere on any forum.

If anyone's been in similar situation of rejection for a Release that you could then submit once you knew they wanted it:  HOW DID YOU HANDLE IT:

Would it be best to simply be more patient and wait for them to get around to my communications?

Or, is it standard procedure for contributor to delete a file rejected for no PR, and then resubmit, attaching the PR to to it right then?

Thank you.  smiles - Ann

I'm concerned about SnapVillage Mock Ad Contest, IF I understand the info in their contest pdf correctly: http://www.snapvillage.com/sv_forms/Mock_Ad_T-shirt_Giveaway_Official_Rules_17-Mar-08.pdf

SnapVillage is having a contest where you create a mock ad using one of their images. First 5,000 entrants get free T-shirt.

HOWEVER,  in the Contest pdf, it states that any mock ad one submits could then be used and modified worldwide for no compensation or notice  - does this include no compensation or notice to the person whose image was used in mock ad?!

Good grief, I wouldn't want to give that away for a free T-shirt. Wouldn't want to use my own image. Wouldn't want anyone to use mine. Wouldn't be fair to use anyone else's image.

For example, if someone used one of my SnapVillage images in mock ad,  that means that ad with my image could be used and modified for free, and I wouldn't have had any say in it. Wouldn't even get a (wow) T-shirt!

IF person whose image is used in mock ad doesn't get compensation/notice if it's then used, people should be warned away from this contest.

Stockxpert accepted my website for their affiliation program a while back, but I could never make a banner or live link work on my site.

Now I'm even more confused.  Am I supposed to create a jupiterimages affiliation for Stockxpert affiliation?

I feel I must be misunderstanding something, since setting up the affiliation banners/links for the other stock sites was easy.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.   smiles - Ann (aka parrypix)

Editorial photos - is there a list of microstock sites that accept them?

Dreamstime (and Featurepics?) are the only sites I belong to that I know accept editorial pix.

(I also contribute to Fotolia, LuckyOliver, 123rf, BigStockPhoto, Stockxpert, SnapVillage, and 1 or 2 others.  I'm not on Shutterstock or iStockphoto yet.)   smiles - ann

General Stock Discussion / Geckostock, is it still with us?
« on: January 03, 2008, 18:40 »
Does anyone know if Geckostock is merely temporarily off-line or gone?  I can't even get to the site, and, based on reply on another Geckostock topic, I'm not the only one.
