General Macrostock / OverflightStock
« on: March 14, 2016, 12:55 »
I'd like to make a quick pitch for my startup agency OverflightStock (www.overflightstock.com) which specializes in aerial photography and footage. The pricing model is along traditional lines both RF and RM.

For anyone interested post your questions here or PM.

Thanks,

Peter

General Stock Discussion / Credit schemes
« on: November 02, 2015, 19:55 »
I'm curious if people have a sense for what buyers think of the credit schemes out there. I was just looking around at some of the newer sites and everyone seems to offer them. I don't buy stock but they look quite confusing. A little like buying a membership to a fitness club.

I have a few dozen clips that seem to be stuck in the submission queue. What's the best way to get them moving through? Thanks

Shutterstock.com / ftp speeds
« on: May 12, 2015, 13:13 »
Is anyone else finding ftp speeds to SS really slow lately? I asked my internet company, they say it's west coast to east coast bottleneck but speeds to P5 and others are all within 80% of max for my plan while SS is down to 10% and lower. It's getting to the point of useless especially for 4k video.

Adobe Stock / Opting out of video subs
« on: August 26, 2014, 08:48 »
Is this possible? I wasn't seeing any of these before, now I get sales for $1.60/$1.35... That  is just too low.

General - Stock Video / Revostock Payments
« on: April 16, 2014, 16:07 »
Are people getting paid in a reasonably timely manner from Revostock these days?  I have a pending payment going back a couple of months now and still haven't seen anything even though the 15th has passed (again).

I shot a few images of my neighbours son and my own daughter this past weekend while they were gardening. 6 and 11 year olds. I've used my daughter in stock shots since she was 2 minutes old. Without getting into a huge philosophical discussion on whether it's  okay to exploit children for the purposes of making money from stock images, has anyone ever had a problem surface from such usages? I ask this because my neighbour was very hesitant signing a releases because of the image "being out there". Of the hundreds of sales from photos of my daughter and of other children, I have never had an issue or seen any of my images used in an inappropriate way. Have you? Or have you heard of any?

Off Topic / Stephen Strathdee aka sharply_done RIP
« on: December 18, 2012, 13:08 »
A friend got me this news this morning. Very very sad.  I knew Stephen a little bit and we would email back and forth on many topics. We had chance to go flying  and doing aerial photography together once.

Stephen Strathdee passed away suddenly on Friday December 14 while skiing in Whistler's Harmony Bowl.

I added this shot of Stephen and I back in 2009. Him at the controls of trusty FHTI 1966 C-172.

Alamy.com / From the I Can't Believe I Sold it Files...
« on: January 12, 2012, 11:14 »
Alamy is well known for their huge collection of oddball editorial images and if the there is a collection that is diametrically opposed to micro images it is these. I've sold some weird images but yesterday takes the cake,  I made a sale for $230.41 for a doggie bag dispensing box. If I asked any of you esteemed pundits what you thought of this image, even the politest of you would have laughed me off the stage.

Off Topic / The culture of free--Rant
« on: December 17, 2010, 13:46 »
So I get an email today from a long time friend. It reads like this:

"Weird happening just now .... I was given a link to some aerial pictures of Vancouver for a poster I am designing  - conference in May.   And who owns the pictures ??  A Peter Chigmaroff.   Gosh .... got any good ones  - that are free of course - pointing from UBC to downtown?"

So they want FREE aerial images. That area is in close proximity to YVR so would require a helicopter and lots of planning and they want free. I know they have a large budget for travel and hosting and they want free. I am boiling mad at this one.

General Photography Discussion / Retouching
« on: October 06, 2010, 12:43 »
What's the range of hourly rates for retouching these days? One to two hours at a shot.

Sorry I should have said in Canada, this is what I would charge someone for professional work not what I hope to pay someone to work for me.

iStockPhoto.com / I'm on Thinkstock?
« on: August 27, 2010, 11:27 »
Sorry for the obvious dumb questions but I need some clarification. Is Thinkstock a iStock company?  iStock bought StockExperts? I'm sure I closed my account and StockXpert and asked all files to be deleted and wanted nothing to do with Thinkstock, but today received a few dollars from HAAP can couldn't figure out why. Started digging and see lots of my shots on Thinkstock.

What do you consider a good seller? How many DLs per day would you need to see for you to consider an image to be a good seller for Shutterstock?

Video Equipment / Sofware / Technique / Draganfly
« on: February 23, 2010, 20:11 »
This is an indicator of things to come. I think it is a bit weak on the camera end and you could buy an old plane (the real thing) for about the same price but it's only a matter of time.

Crestock.com / Lots of sub sales
« on: July 08, 2009, 15:24 »
Is anyone else getting lots of sub sales all of a sudden. A couple times in the last couple days I am getting groups of 20 sub sub sales at a time. Normally Crestock is sooooo sleepy I forget about them. So what's happening here?
