Print on Demand Forum / FineArtAmerica support email
« on: April 12, 2021, 17:22 »
Hey does anyone know a support email address for FAA?

I've been locked out of the site for a week or so now, and the reset password link never sends me an email (yep, checked junk). Have filled out their support form online, but no reply.

Really need an email address to write to them if anyone has one?

Thanks

Adobe Stock / No social sharing?
« on: January 31, 2020, 17:21 »
Hopefully Matt can chime in on this...

Was just sharing some of my images from my PicFair portfolio to Twitter ( @thpstockphotos if you're interested ) , and it was a breeze.

Figured I'd go do the same from my Adobe Stock portfolio - except there is no sharing option on the image detail pages, unless I'm missing something?

I thought I'd take a look at Shutterstock, and sure enough they have the option to share from the image detail page. However, it's really lacking - it only adds the URL in by default. No description, no hashtags, not even a proper Twitter card to display a nice, full size image.

Just got me wondering why Adobe Stock doesn't have this kind of feature? Surely it'd be a pretty easy win? If it's built out properly (like the PicFair one, although even that could be improved a little) I'm sure contributors would be sharing their images a lot more (at least, I know I would).

General Stock Discussion / Claiming Back USA Withholding Tax
« on: November 29, 2014, 20:14 »
Does anyone know if it is possible, and if so how, to claim back the 5% or whatever that gets withheld from sales made in the USA?

After a bit of Googling, it seems that if I buy foreign shares for example, then I can claim back some of the withheld tax. Does something similar apply in our case as stock photographers?

After a few years of doing this, and the majority of sales coming from the US, it could be worth pursuing if it is possible.

Thanks for your help

On their homepage it now lists video subscriptions, which takes you to this page:

which has the following options for video:

Any video size including HD
Buy now
$129/mo
500 videos/mo

Buy now
$149/mo

Where are they getting these videos from?
How much are the contributors being paid?
Why haven't we been told anything at all about this?

At the moment I can't see any of my video's on there, which is sweet relief given the apparent pricing structure.

Updated with a screenshot - I can still see it live on the site - YOU MAY NEED TO CLEAR YOUR CACHE TO SEE IT

Alamy.com / Alamy Editorial
« on: July 28, 2014, 20:14 »
Quick Q - can you have editorial images on RF sites like SS, DT etc, and on Alamy?

If so - how?

I can't see an editorial license option, except for RM. Is RM the only way to have editorial on Alamy?

Thanks in advance.

About 10 days ago I should have gone up a royalty tier at bigstock, based on my previous 12 months of sales. But still no change at all. I have emailed support, with no response either.

Has anyone had any experience with this? I seem to remember my previous upgrade just happening when it should.

iStockPhoto.com / Photos.com CLOSING in March
« on: February 19, 2014, 19:56 »
Unless I missed it, I couldn't see this mentioned anywhere over here, so though't I'd give anyone who cares the heads up

http://au.photos.com/help

Photos.com is closing on March 10,2014. Everything basically transferred to Thinkstock. Just gave a quick summary of it here: http://www.microstockman.com/photos-com-closing-march-10-2014/ - basically just the FAQ from their site.

Thoughts on this closing?

Shutterstock.com / Can't Login - Captcha Not Visible?

Title says it all. Have tried two browsers and the captcha doesn't show up on either, yet it keeps saying the security code is invalid.

Anyone else?

Bigstock.com / BigtStock EL's - How?
« on: September 17, 2013, 23:21 »
BigStock have been doing a lot of work to their image page layout lately. But I am baffled by one thing - How on earth does a buyer download an Extended License?

http://www.bigstockphoto.com/image-24923867/

Where is the option to choose an EL? There is a text link about "available as an EL" or similar, but it just takes you to the license agreement?

Am I missing something obvious? I haven't had an EL there in ages and now I'm wondering if this is why!!

Don't know about everyone else, but I am getting a bit lost in some of the threads as to what the current issues & suggestions are (opening another thread might not help!). Rather than getting a big discussion going, how about getting a simple list of remaining quirks/issues/annoyances/suggestions to help Leo and the gang work through them all?

Here's mine:

UPDATE: I have numbered them all, NOT for importance but so Leo can simply say "numbers 1, 7, 15 are done and can be crossed off" and I can simply update them with a strikethrough

1 Fix the bug where the same image appears on multiple pages when browsing

2 Remove the redundant links to the license that existed before the new Licenses tool (e.g. on the customer account page)

3 Remove the Standard License blue bar that appears BELOW the Download button (not sure why it's there, see here for example: http://thpstockphotos.com/image/first-light/ )

4 Remove the words "Supporting Files" that appear next to the Zip option in the product table

5 Remove the brackets around the Price column on the product table eg: ( US Dollar ($) ) - remove both lots of brackets, just US Dollar $. When zip files are showing, these brackets get a little funky with the css and aren't really necessary anyway

6 Finish making either the base theme or the paid plugin FULLY responsive and mobile friendly - e.g.: the search bar & menu. Menu shouldn't have to be in the footer for it to work on a mobile device.

7 Add (perhaps in the paid plugin?) the ability for a couple of extra file sizes - XL, XXL, and make it so that file sizes only show up if the file meets the requirements for that size, which the author sets in admin

8 Allow the batch editor to only update options which have CHANGED, not just update EVERY option on the screen. eg: you could batch alter licenses, without altering a batches price or ranking

9 Make the Download button bigger (uses bootstrap I think, can just go to the next size up)

10 Add Sort options to browsing pages (newest, oldest, most popular etc)

11 Remove the "Images/Blog" drop down menu next to the search box by default. Can have an option to turn it back on if people want?

12 Slightly alter the text thats been created with extended licenses, where it shows something like this on the product table: "15.00+90.00 105.00", just space it out a little and replace the arrows with equals "15.00 + 90.00 = 105.00"

13 Allow the "Append Text to Title:" section in the Symbiostock admin/batch editor work on a per image basis. Eg: You could append "- Stock Photo" to stock photos, and "- Stock Vector" to vectors, instead of a one-size-fits-all approach.

14 Allow the licenses to be editable if you need to change something, such as upgrade price for EL's

15 Collections need to be more self-explanatory and simple.

16 Search Tracking should be implemented. (Base theme?)

Requested by DonLand
17 Images that are assigned categories but are not published are not shown when searching by a category.

18 Everything should be able to be added/removed in the bulk editor, such as Exclusive and Categories.

19 Need the ability to search for Drafts in the bulk editor.

20 Need the ability to search by Day in the bulk editor.

21 In the bulk editor the search parameters should be selectable there, i.e. search keywords, search title, search description.

22 When searching for keywords the search should auto fill from the list of all the keywords.

23 The search return number should default to last used value, not 48.

24 Need to be able to drag to select images in the grid. Much too labor intensive to click on every image chosen from search selection.

25 The drop down category search menu should not show categories that are empty.

Requested by Cidepix
26 The Cart Manager needs to be officially implemented and completed. (It was started for premium, now it should be installed as part of package).
sale stats by day, week, month, year?

27 download expiration

28 Display file id's to customers option

Requested by tdahl-stock
29 Ability to assign one value to selected images instead of all-values. (Seems to be same as #8 above)

Requested by jsfoto
30 one minor thing:  I would suggest to delete the vertical line that separates the licenses (in my case standard and extended license) - if the vertical line is removed can the different licences be each on their own line (otherwise button can be on line line and licence description on the next if three or more licence options) <-- addition by Keriok

31 one which is important : We can set Model and/or Property Released when editing an image ... this information should be visible on the Single image pages (perhaps as part of the description?) Option to publish the release statuses of an image on the image page, visible to the potential customer

32 I would appreciate the possibility to add a short text (in addition to hashtags) to a tweet in the batch editor of the premium plugin.

Requested by AJT

33 New field in symbiocard - checksum (md5_file) of current symbiostock_image_info.csv

34 Cookie cart - VERY IMPORTANT (CAPS added by microstock man)

Requested by Redneck
35 Either in "Edit" image or in the Stocl Images sub menu -> Link to Drafts (for faster editing/processing)

Please try and read through the list before suggesting things as some are already doubling and tripling up. Thanks.

I know some of these are minor things, but the cleaner the theme the better for the buyer.

123RF / RC Totals Not Updated?
« on: September 02, 2013, 19:13 »
Just noticed that my RC totals haven't budged one bit, despite having a much better month in August than August 2012.

It seems they haven't updated. Anyone else? How long does it normally take for them to update this? I thought it was basically instantaneous?

Veer / The Future of Veer
« on: August 27, 2013, 22:15 »
When I started doing this a few years back Veer quickly became one of my best earners. Although some months it took a dive, overall it was pretty consistent, and those $45ish EL's certainly helped raise the income.

I can't believe how much it has changed in the last 12 months. The poll on the right clearly reflects where it is at for me these days, well situated among the low earners. I know they introduced subs and that impacted the RPD hugely, but it also seems that sales have dropped off dramatically too - despite an increasing portfolio (2,200+ at the moment).

I have to wonder if others are experiencing the same? And if so, is there any future left for Veer?

Symbiostock - General / A HUGE thanks to Leo & Others
« on: July 31, 2013, 20:51 »
Now Leo, I know you get a little shy when threads like this pop up, but I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you for creating such a great tool for us in Symbiostock. I know a lot of others have put in work behind the scenes too, so to everyone THANK YOU and keep up the great work.

What has prompted this thread? Well I was just adding up my July stats and guess what? Coming in as my 5th best earner for the month was...

http://thpstockphotos.com

Yep, my very own Symbiostock site did well for the month. WOW does it make a diffference when you get to keep 100% (ok, well like 90% after Paypal's fee) of each sale.

So again, a huge thanks to the efforts of all involved. And for those still sitting on the fence wondering if it's worth it - GIVE IT A GO!! It won't knock Shutterstock of it's perch, but it can sure add to your bottom line. :)

General Stock Discussion / July Earnings
« on: July 31, 2013, 20:46 »
Couldn't see one yet...

July was a surprise to say the least - BME! Mostly thanks to a huge month at SS, helped by my 3 biggest SOD sales so far and a few ED's.

IS - Sales WAY up, but revenue DOWN. DO NOT LIKE this new pricing system.
FT - BME
PD - Great
BS - Great
DT - Average

The rest - average or below

But the REALLY EXCITING PART of my month was the site that came in as my 5th (6th if you count referral earnings) best earner...

http://thpstockphotos.com - My own Symbio site!

16
I'm pretty sure the answer is, and always has been, NO. It uses - instead which is much better in search engine's eyes (although yet the debate rages..).

However, since one of the later versions (no idea which one, but somewhere from 2.0 onwards) Woorank SEO Check page consistently says that my symbio site is using underscores in the URLs.

For the life of me I can't find a single instance of it. Can anyone shed some more light on it for me? Does your site show the same when run through Woorank - www.woorank.com ?

Symbiostock - General / Wordpress 3.6 and other updates
« on: July 22, 2013, 18:24 »
Hey Leo,

Sorry to interrupt you from plugging away at the premium version, but just a question or two...

Have you had time to play with Symbio and the upcoming Wordpress 3.6 update? Do they play nicely? Should we upgrade when it comes along (sounds like it will be pretty soon).

Also, I've seen a couple of people running Symbio 2.5.7 - I am getting no prompt to update from 2.5.6. What are the changes to this new version?

Thanks mate.

Dreamstime.com / Activating G+ Authorship - Anyone done it?
« on: July 15, 2013, 18:19 »
DT has had this feature to exclusives for a while, but now its open to all.

I am wanting to soon have my Symbio site connected with G+ for authorship, so I am wondering if linking my DT portfolio will negate any good for my Symbio site if I go ahead and do it?

Anyone already done this step? Anyone know more about it, how it works?

Alamy.com / Novel Use still around...
« on: June 12, 2013, 01:48 »
Wasn't Novel Use meant to be gone? Or on the way out or something?

Just had one for $1, but I thought I remembered reading that they were getting rid of it.

Now that my first sale has come through (woohoo! best $11 i've ever made :) ) it's got me thinking more about the client side of the site.

I know people have listed a bunch of paypal and user registration bugs which is good, I'm glad those are getting looked at. That's crucial. But I think we also need to get a slightly more functional client account section happening to keep our buyers happy and supplied with all the data they need.

For instance, the client should be able to see how much they spent on each image, as well as the date they bought it in their Account section that lists their downloaded files, as well as a link next to the image that goes straight to the EULA.

Also, would be brilliant if authors had an option to send a "Thank You - Here's a discount" email after a purchase. eg: The site automatically sent an email 48 hours after the sale to say "thanks so much for buying from me, here's a 50% discount on your next purchase" to encourage them to come back and buy another image. The shopping cart would need a little "coupon code" box where the buyer enters their valid one-time-use code to get the discount. This would reward buyers for supporting a new website and keep them coming back. Every 5 purchases, get a 20% discount code or something.

Any more ideas for improving the client-side experience? And Leo - do you think these can be implemented as part of the theme, or would they be part of your paid plugins/support thing now?

Alamy.com / Manage Images - Broken?
« on: June 05, 2013, 02:06 »
Just had 80 odd images approved about 24 hours ago, went in to Manage Images, which opens up ok, but then none of the thumnails ever load. Just says Loading on each one and never progresses. Not just for Unfinished images but for images on sale too.

Anyone else?

Same on both Safari and Firefox. Latest version of Flash installed.

Symbiostock - SEO & Marketing / Google+ Authorship?
« on: June 04, 2013, 03:13 »
Just upgraded my Google account to get Google+. REALLY don't want the social side of it, was just thinking it could be used for SEO purposes for my site and to add another level of authorship to it.

But I am SO CONFUSED!! Can anyone explain simply for me the authorship steps for authenticating as the author of my work? And is it worth it? Will it actually accomplish anything?

Man i'm so not into this social media stuff!

GLStock / Hard Times at GL - Changes From June 1st, 2013
« on: June 01, 2013, 02:00 »
GL contributors check your site mail, there is a new message waiting. I don't want to post the whole thing here, figure that is up to the staff at GL to do if they want. But in short, here is some of it:

In January 2013, Google announced their new image search functionality. This new format has significantly hindered our traffic and sales.

As a fair trade contributor site, it is very important to us to maintain the current contributors commission rate of 52%, so we will have to make adjustments in other areas. Effective June 1, 2013 we will be executing the following changes:

1. Suspending the seller referral earnings program
2. Significantly reducing our review team and staff
3. Postponing new contributor admittance

They term it a "temporary downsizing". I know a lot of people have tried to get behind GL, especially during the istock D-Day debacle, but it seems one change in Google has impacted dramatically.

I hope they can come out of it ok.

http://appleinsider.com/articles/13/05/31/chicago-sun-times-axes-all-staff-photographers-offers-reporters-iphoneography-training

As a former photojournalist myself, wow. Just wow. Are they crazy!? Fire a Pulitzer prize winning professional photographer and expect an iPhone to do better than him?

Some people will just never understand the idea that the photographer makes the photograph, not the camera.

25
Something came up this afternoon and I needed to buy a couple of images quickly for a little project. I haven't really had to do this before, so its new to me (always selling, never buying!) so if I have missed something please let me know.

But something struck me... Hardly any of the agencies that I tried allowed you to buy an image using the credit that you have in your account as earnings as a contributor. Eg: Say you have $50 in your earnings account that you've earned as a contributor and you want to buy 1 image using it.

I might have missed something, but it seemed I couldn't do it at 123rf, canstock, dreamstime, or shutterstock. I ended up being able to do it at Fotolia surprisingly enough.

These other agencies required you to buy a credit pack first, before you could do it. Perhaps you can use your earnings to buy a credit pack, but how does that help if you just want an image (or in my case 2).

So my thought from this experience is this: ALL AGENCIES need a SIMPLE way for contributors to buy images using their earnings, without pre-purchasing credits. Just buy a single image, money comes out from the earnings of the contributor. That simple.

Surely, this would be a way to boost sales.
