Shutterstock.com / SS just screwed up the site again
« on: December 14, 2023, 10:25 »
They rolled out improvements that disable editing function. You can't copy keywords anymore. Catalog manager is replaced by some terrible Marketplace Editor. We lose ways to work and they roll out new versions that no one needs or asks for. Don't be surprised next time you try to upload or edit. There is a tab for now to use legacy, we don't know how long that will stay. There's also a comment tab on top. Try the new and tell them what you think.

Off Topic / Here's why grafitti artists are scary to agencies
« on: February 13, 2018, 10:40 »
http://www.latimes.com/nation/nationnow/la-na-ny-graffiti-artists-settlement-20180212-story.html

Judge awards graffiti artists $6.7 million after their New York works were destroyed

Best part is the building owner, who painted over the works and tore down the buildings was the defendant. This is going to be appealed of course, but shows how dumb things can be. Who wants to defend against a lawsuit from an artist or a vandal? Some of these people had permission to paint on the buildings.

Bigger issue, is graffiti protected under federal law?

General Stock Discussion / Piegate, Stock Photo, fake news
« on: November 26, 2017, 22:34 »
This is how absurd the politics have become, attackers say she used a stock photo, I thought it was fun. Is this your pecan pie?  :) Same goes for most of what goes on here with politics too.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5115965/Piegate-White-House-Press-head-accused-stock-pie-pic.html

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders shared a maybe too good to be true photo of a pecan pie she says she made for Thanksgiving
Internet conspiracy theorists jumped in saying it was a stock photo of a pie
White House correspondent April Ryan egged on the sweet debate calling on Sanders to show her cooking and people eating the said pie

Shutterstock.com / New submission editor page
« on: November 06, 2017, 18:04 »
Well someone had to start this thread, now let the screaming begin. So far I like it and no they don't have to ask us before they change their site.

It uses the computer vision technology for keyword suggestions, which I have a feeling is not an improvement, but from what we've seen a good joke. The suggestions are rolling in, besides where to stick it and something about never seeing the Sun. Best one is showing all the data so we don't need to scroll to see all about a submission. Work in progress.

Did most of us get over the front page and map change enough to enjoy the new look? I think the new editor is going to be easier and faster, once they get it sorted out better. Now about the whole site, submission lags, ftp errors, upload errors and sales. Things that actually matter?

Diamond D's brothel began construction on an expansion of their building to increase their ever-growing business.

In response, the local Baptist Church started a campaign to block the business from expanding -- with morning, afternoon, and evening prayer sessions at their church.

Work on Diamond D's progressed right up until the week before the grand re-opening when lightning struck the whorehouse and burned it to the ground!

After the brothel burned to the ground by the lightning strike, the church folks were rather smug in their outlook, bragging about "the power of prayer."

But late last week 'Big Jugs' Jill Diamond, the owner/madam, sued the church, the preacher and the entire congregation on the grounds that the church ..."was ultimately responsible for the demise of her building and her business -- either through direct or indirect divine actions or means."

In its reply to the court, the church vehemently and vociferously denied any and all responsibility or any connection to the building's demise.

The crusty old judge read through the plaintiff's complaint and the defendant's reply, and at the opening hearing he commented, "I don't know how . I'm going to decide this case, but it appears from the paperwork, that we now have a whorehouse owner who staunchly believes in the power of prayer....and an entire church congregation that thinks it's all Bull

What an interesting turn of events in Pahrump, Nevada...

Works are "transformative and protected by fair use". My Ass!

If I can steal your work and paint it, then claim it's transformative. Nothing is protected.

I think the people here are smarter and more astute then most of the articles and predictions we'll be seeing in the following weeks. The artists here are creative and working towards their business and earnings, many times, watch and see what's really going on in the industry better then the people in the big offices and agencies.

What's the future, colors, composition, trends, styles, subjects?

What do you see for the future 2017? What will be most popular for the next year.

I'm asking about images, not doom and gloom about how we get paid more or less. Somebody can start another thread for that please.

Shutterstock.com / Buying SSTK stock in January
« on: December 29, 2016, 18:39 »
Since people here are telling me that stockholders make the money and we tell SSTK what to do and how to run the business, I'm selling all of my other stocks and buying SSTK. Unfortunately I think it's far over valued, but people her have assured me, I'll be making all the profits off your hard work.

"Taking a closer look at Shutterstock's results, growth in some of the company's key operational metrics looked a bit less robust than investors had seen in previous quarters. Paid downloads were up just 8% to 41.2 million, showing growth that has slowed considerably since the beginning of the year." http://www.fool.com/investing/2016/11/04/shutterstock-shares-fall-on-weak-sales-guidance.aspx?source=djc&utm_campaign=article&utm_medium=feed&utm_source=djc

Are you people sure I'm going to be rich and telling SS what to do after I sell all my other stocks? I mean I want to be sure that the people on the forums are all knowing about how stockholders are behind the search changes and why some people incomes are down. I want to be a stockholder and tell them to increase my sales. You know, insiders get better placement in the search?

Saw this today. 1. Represents the forfeiture by Mr. Lieberman, who resigned effective as of December 13, 2016, of a prior grant of restricted stock units from the Issuer pursuant to the Issuer's Amended and Restated 2012 Omnibus Equity Incentive Plan. Each such restricted stock unit represented a contingent right to receive one share of the Issuer's common stock and, as of Mr. Lieberman's resignation, such restricted stock units had not vested. As a result, pursuant to the terms of the grant, the shares were forfeited.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insight_Venture_Partners

I'm looking forward to being one of those wealthy stockholders who run the company. But I'm pretty sure it's the venture partners who call the shots, not the stockholders.

I will get the annual reports or access to them online, and news. Should have bought last year when it was down to 26. I think I'll start looking for a low in the mid-30s for a buy.

Maybe I should be buying Adobe instead? Revenues are up 20% year-over-year, and net income is up 55%. Profits have more than doubled from where they were in 2013 and 2014, while investments in the cloud transition were being made.

Claims that spammers and new people are making the company & stockholders big profits haven't leaked out to stockholders or investors. Watch tomorrow, income up isn't same as profit up. SSTK is down anticipating report, over valued stock.

General Stock Discussion / Social Media free for commercial use
« on: September 21, 2015, 14:23 »
Companies use posted pictures for free and claim if they tag with a like, it's not advertising. This is how they get free photos for marketing. Free

http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/retailers%E2%80%99-use-of-their-fans%E2%80%99-photos-draws-scrutiny/ar-AAexT0X?ocid=ansmsnsports11

And others they just ask, can we use your photo, and people answer yes, which makes it legal. Free

This is why I put nothing on these sites, where they make money offering our photos for free.

Off Topic / Designers and Photographers
« on: July 29, 2015, 19:40 »
http://thenextweb.com/dd/2015/07/28/why-everyone-is-a-designer-but-shouldnt-design/

Why everyone is a photographer and some people shouldn't be. Look at the photo credits, Shutterstock and creative commons. Do creative commons get paid for the use. The story hits a point why some people shouldn't be in Micro. I see the same arguments about professional as here.

I'll fall on the sword to start this. Everybody who is a stock photographer making money is a designer. It's part of the same work to take a good stock photo. I design it and shoot it. I make money, I'm a professional.

General Stock Discussion / False Envy
« on: March 02, 2015, 23:06 »
The researchers surveyed 736 college students and found that, basically, if you quietly stalk your friends on Facebook and then realize that your life doesn't measure up to theirs, you feel bad about yourself.

"If Facebook is used to see how well an acquaintance is doing financially or how happy an old friend is in his relationship -- things that cause envy among users -- use of the site can lead to feelings of depression," said Margaret Duffy, a professor at the University of Missouri School of Journalism.

http://guardianlv.com/2013/08/facebook-causes-depression-new-study-says/

If you quietly watch your friends on MSG and then realize that your life doesn't measure up to theirs, you feel bad about yourself. If MSG is used to see how well an acquaintance is doing financially or how happy an old friend is, things that cause envy among users -- use of the site can lead to feelings of depression. If you believe the messages and think you are missing out. You have MSG and Microstock envy.

Believe in yourself and your own work.
