Shutterstock.com / Unpaid Eearnings not being paid out
« on: April 08, 2022, 07:11 »
Is it just me or do other people have unpaid earnings that aren't being automatically paid out?  I usually just let Shutterstock earnings and their automatic payout run it's course but I just realized I haven't been paid in a while and have earnings sitting on the SS site that should have been paid out.  Anyone else see the same?

« on: January 08, 2019, 02:05 »
Hey guys.
Is anyone using the tapatalk plugin to access MicrostockGroup?  it needed an upgrade and if people are using I'll be happy to get it going again.  If no one is using it then I won't bother.

WHAT CAMERAS AND SETTINGS DO STOCK PHOTOGRAPHERS USE?

Depositphotos analyzed EXIF data from their library of 60 million files to find out what settings and cameras stock photographers use. EXIF data is the detailed information that is recorded as you take a photograph. It includes ISO, shutter speed, camera model, aperture and much more.

One of the interesting findings from the study is that the almost 40% of stock photographers use Canon. Heres a visual representation of what most stock photographers use.

I thought it would be interesting to put together a list of all the blockchain based stock photography sites.  I just discovered a new one this morning, Wemark, who has quite a few recognizable faces on their advisory board.

List:
Photochain
Wemark
Totem
Kodak Coin

General Stock Discussion / 2016 Microstock Survey Launched
« on: January 15, 2017, 06:26 »
The 2016 survey is now live. you can fill it out here
http://microstocksurvey.com/index.php/272488/index/

I know, I know - I was super slack on the 2015 survey and still don't have the results posted.  I've been a little over-run with projects this year :(

I still think this survey is quite interesting however and provides rather interesting results - especially as it is the 9th year in a row that it has been run.  So join us again and fill in your stats.  I'll try and be much better this year and get the results posted mid Feb (including the 2015 numbers)

Interesting article on google's auto keywording and the software used that has just been released as open source.

It's not long before we won't have to keyword our images anymore.

I just received an email from Pond5 asking for more info about me.  Did anyone else receive this?  When clicking the link in the email I'm sent to a woofu form.. which seems a bit odd.  Perhaps it is a fishing email? I emailed Pond5 but thought I'd give a heads up here in case anyone else received one as well.

I'll update this thread when I hear more.

General Stock Discussion / 2015 Stock Photo Survey!!
« on: May 30, 2016, 11:10 »
Better late than never (I hope)

Here is a link to the survey - quite similar to other years but I removed a couple of the iStock exclusive questions (there are still 1 or 2 left) as that isn't as big of a subject any more.

Spread the link around - hopefully we can still get 500+ respondents this year, despite it being late.

MicrostockSubmitter / Releases no longer attached to files
« on: April 13, 2016, 07:42 »
I have a strange error today.  When I look at old files, some of the files have releases attached like they should but other files have no releases attached :(

Is there a bug with the latest release?  Are others having this issue?
Files edited yesterday look good, but files edited last month have no releases.  I can't find a pattern in the old files and which ones have releases and which ones have the releases deleted :(

If you mouse over the sites on the right site, you can now see the number of votes used to count the numbers and their rating (for the sites that don't show it).

A site needs 50 or more votes before it shows on the top area (to make a decent average).

If you haven't voted in the monthly poll recently, you can do so here

I'm wanting to convert some of my wife's drawings to vectors - but can it be done in a way to keep the texture of the pencil marks?  The illustrator auto trace creates 1000's of vector points which makes for a poor vector (if I'm not mistaken).  Is it even possible to create a good vector from drawings like these or would the colors need to become 'flat'.  Is the only option to simply submit a raster image of the drawings / a scan?

thanks for the help from a vector 'newb'

Is it just me or are others having problems getting the software to log into Shutterstock to submit photos?

I just read a few articles on this situation at it seemed very similar to our situation.  Taylor Swift wrote an open letter and complained about the situation in a respectful way and it looks like Apple listened.

I just found it interesting how the music industry is essentially going through the same thing.

http://gizmodo.com/apple-does-abrupt-about-face-over-unpaid-streaming-1712983639
http://taylorswift.tumblr.com/post/122071902085/to-apple-love-taylor

To summarize - for those who don't want to follow the links.
Apple is starting a music streaming service and they are offering a 3 month trial for free.  Artists were set to NOT be paid for their music that was paid for these first three months.
In response Taylor Swift refused to release her new album on iTunes in protest and wrote an open letter to Apple explaining her position (linked above)
Apple changed their mind shortly after and announced that they WILL pay artists after all for the three months they are giving away as a trial.

StockUploader / Fotolia Price Setter
« on: June 17, 2015, 08:01 »
Does it work or is it still in development?  After gaining a new level due to the recounting of sub downloads it would be really great to have a tool to raise my prices.

At long last...the results from the 2014 microstock survey are now published.  You can find them here.

http://blog.microstockgroup.com/2014-microstock-industry-survey-first-look/

Sorry it took so long.

Generally the results look pretty similar to previous years - which is a good thing.  Overall things are stable and the survey is proving to be a reliable source of information.  iStock is continuing to slide and Shutterstock is securing it's position at the top.  It will be interested to see this year if Adobe's purchase of Fotolia will have any effect on the industry and if Shutterstock's public state will affect their relations to contributors.

Selling Stock Direct / WooCommerce launches Photo Plugin
« on: January 27, 2015, 09:49 »
I haven't tried out this plugin yet, but I'm pretty excited they (woothemes) finally launched their photo plug-in.
http://www.woothemes.com/photography/

I've used woocommerce a lot and it is very reliable and feature rich (and easy to upgrade - unlike ktools) but things would have to work pretty automagically for the photography plug-in to work for stock photos, but it looks promising so far.

If you give it a try - please share your thoughts / experiences.
