Off Topic / Weird (former) designer-client issue
« on: October 04, 2011, 15:16 »
I currently have a client who is getting harassed by their former designer. That designer is saying that the client can not use any of the graphics that the designer created for them (and the client paid for) because they were copyrighted by the designer. Has anyone ever heard of this before? How can this possibly be legal? That designer is also harassing other designers (not me...yet) who the client has hired to do work, claiming they can't use any of the designs to create work for that person either.

I honestly don't even know how this designer can claim that. Who would sell designs to someone and then not allow them to use any of it? Anyone know if there are *any* legal grounds or precedents here?

Off Topic / Double Copyright violation on Facebook?
« on: August 28, 2011, 08:58 »
I created a banner using a stock photo for my profile on Facebook and I noticed someone stole part of the banner (the photo) and is using it on their profile now. They probably think it's okay because it's out there on the internet and everything on the internet is free for the taking, right? Should I report it to FB or the agency I bought the photo from. Or should I just contact the person (though I'm not sure if they speak English). Obviously the person is not profiting from the photo or anything, and maybe I'm oversensitive and should just "get over it because it's a compliment" as other people have told me when I've mentioned other stuff stolen I've seen stolen (  >:( )

What would you do?

My banner: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150374244242786&set=a.486395962785.271150.509677785&type=1

Their profile: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001724972309

Should I just let it go because stuff like this happens on the internet, or should I pursue it?  Bought the photo at 123RF.

That is actually a hypothetical question. I have the misfortune to currently be conducting a search for a client project and I decided to by-pass the best match BS by searching by "File Age". "File Age" is supposed to mean newer first, right?  Because I see files that are at least a year old at the beginning of the search, in front of more recent stuff. Or is this, yet again, an "iStock re-definition" of something?

Off Topic / Is it real or is it Photoshop
« on: June 12, 2011, 17:27 »
So this has been making the rounds as a "real" photo. I first saw it on a Yahoo photo stream. What do people think? It looks so obviously fake to me, but maybe I should give it the benefit of the doubt? I'd love to see it at high res.

This is the description:

This adds a whole new dimension to bird engineering, because this eagle looks for all the world like it's jet-propelled - just look at those vapour trails streaking across the sky from the eagle's talons

Not quite, perhaps, but snapper Pam Mullins captured an extraordinary moment when aircraft were flying above the eagle, exactly in line with the trajectory of the bird's feet.

She said: 'The eagle was just gliding through the sky and I was panning with my camera trying to get a good shot.

'As I took the photo I just thought I had taken a normal picture. But when I looked back I realised how extraordinary it looked. I thought my photo had been ruined by the jet trails! I don't know if I would have been able to take the photo if I had tried.'

The shot of a lifetime was taken close to her home in Prince Rupert, British Columbia, Canada.

Site Related / Personal Profile Changes?
« on: May 29, 2011, 12:47 »
Is it just me, or have our personal profiles been improved and expanded upon? I also notice that we can no longer see how many people are ignoring us. Or is it somewhere and I just can't find it. I will be so disappointed at losing this information, because it's kind of a badge of honor. :D

Off Topic / Finding the original photographer of an image
« on: December 22, 2010, 14:29 »
Aside from using TinEye and searching through all the results, is there any way to find out who the original photographer was of a particular image? It's an image that I think has been around the web a lot. Thanks!
