I'm wondering if there are many who do wedding photography here. What do you offer for your services and how much your rate would be if that isn't too much info on here. Location would be helpful to gauge what its like around the world.

https://us.fotolia.com/p/201160780 Fakegraphic is username

I have managed to find 2 of my silhouette figures being sold by this thief. If you are a vector artist take a close look at some of this accounts portfolio and make sure this person isn't profiting off your hard work! I have a feeling this is just a collection of stolen work we need to be more vigilant about. I have contacted fotolia and hope this matter gets settled with this account banned.

What a fitting username too!

It would be interesting to hear more from others about their experience with their hot sellers and to see if there is a shift from 2 years ago to now.
I only submit vectors on SS so that might also play a part here. My hot sellers gets in anywhere from 4-9 downloads a day on good days. I don't ever remember a file of mine going over 10 downloads a day. Im sure there are images that gets more than that or at least i would like to think there is.
The popular downloads from my library are groups or sets if that helps. One my more popular sets has around 3400 downloads and i uploaded that may 2013.
I do think there has been a slightly small shift in downloads recently but i wouldn't mind hearing stats from other people if they willing to share. It would provide me a better picture of where i stand compared to my fellow contributors.

Adobe Stock / How do you contact Fotolia reviewing team?
« on: November 13, 2015, 17:43 »
I have been getting rejections lately on my vectors I created from my own sketches. I provide proof of my sketches and they still say they need model releases or something like that. It's like they don't believe i can sketch that off my head. I majored in illustration and have taken hundreds of hours on life drawing which is to study the anatomy. Who can I contact? It's like they think they have a bunch of people that cant draw submitting there or something. Why isn't sketch enough proof?

Adobe Stock / Fotolia needs to rework contributor area/dashboard
« on: November 04, 2015, 12:33 »
After the Dollar Photo Club incident, whatever little files I had on I deleted. Now that I have begun uploading back to this site, I am seeing that its hard to navigate or see all my files. I am not a fan of their drop down list of showing the files. Has there been talk about this and do you think they will change/update this area anytime soon now that Adobe is involved? It just looks terribly outdated compared to some other sites navigation/dashboard...

Shutterstock.com / New images hardly sell
« on: August 13, 2015, 14:04 »
It has been my experience that new files generally sell right off the bat once approved and put out in the database (vectors). It seems to me that with the sheer number of new images being accepted, it is very hard for new images to compete or even be seen.
I will give example. Last year i uploaded something to do with baseball right before baseball season started... it got bought a couple of times right away and then proceeded to pick up steam. It is in front page of search for baseball and has over 800 downloads getting anywhere from 1-6 downloads a day.
I do the same thing for football this year earlier. It got downloaded right away also. but after a download or 2 later, it has disappeared. I know this file will succeed if given the chance.
It seems the window of opportunity for your files to succeed has gotten a lot shorter. Am i the only one seeing this trend? Or is this a known thing for some time and I just realize it now because I only upload a couple of files a month and haven't noticed...
If this is the new normal, I probably would stop producing for the microstock market.

Shutterstock.com / SS SOD sales
« on: March 19, 2014, 15:28 »
It seems to me that i have been getting more and more SODs on SS recently. Is this a trend that people are seeing? I would like to think this is happening more often due to SS getting more and more buyers from new markets. Do you think your SOD sales have improved the last few weeks/months? Mine is clearly over 15% from previous months so i just want to know if its good timing for me right now or generally happening.

Symbiostock / Can Symbiostock ever be bought out?
« on: August 20, 2013, 13:40 »
I've been following these threads closely with the intention of creating my own symbio site once other priorities are out of the way (i started a screen printing venture for one. I'm in nyc so if anyone needs screen printing services =) pm me...).

Lets say this really takes off and the agencies really take notice on its success. Is there a possibility of a company like GETTY swooping in and killing this thing by outright buying it off??? I'm not familiar with the "open source" project of this sort.

Shutterstock.com / Vector downloads analysis
« on: April 29, 2013, 21:11 »
As a recent contributor to SS, I am curious to know about download figures in comparison to their portfolio size. I am hoping there are enough vector contributors in this forum that might participate in this poll. It doesnt matter what kind of download it is whether it is a single, on demand or subscription. Just take a look at the last two weeks during a normal working week day.  :)

iStockPhoto.com / istock soooo painfully slow
« on: April 10, 2013, 21:43 »
It's that extra kick to the face from Getty to its contributors because it seems to be only slow on the contributors side.
I guess its due to all the extra code stuffed into its programming? I dont really code but i can see some of it being something like this.

- Don't show contributor "A" portfolio from 8am-12pm mondays and wed when searched...
- Lets just say buyer bought this item for $5 when it was really bought for $7 code every 10th sale...
- every 25 sales, one is refunded for twice the amount
- contributor "B" made some posts on our forum that made us look dumb. so his search placement goes down by 50 image slots
- contributor "B" keeps making sense on the forums and is pointing out our greed. extra 10% off 50% of all his downloads dont report

I can keep going on but at least i had some fun  ;D

What percentage of your months total income comes from single image sales? Being new on SS, the downloads are so much more than when i was exclusive on istock. Does anyone see more than 25% of their months income on single image sales? is there a trend that this percentage is rising or falling?

12
As a new contributor on SS, i am not sure when to add a reference sketch/photo when uploading vectors.
istock was very strict when it came to this but on SS, they seem a lot more lenient when it comes to adding your sketch.

It seems like they don't require proof for submitting silhouettes.

I know there has been many threads here that deals with taking down illegal images or sites that give out free images. Can someone explain or point out to a thread that explains this process in detail?
Is contacting google the only way to go?

General Stock Discussion / I started my own site
« on: August 11, 2012, 12:00 »
I haven't been around here much lately. I have been focusing my efforts outside of micro and doing more freelance work. One of my areas I do is t shirt designs. I figured i design tees for other clients, might as well make some for myself. I have come up with my own site this week selling my own designs which i illustrated. During this process, I found out i sucked at making type shirts as i spent almost 10 hours custom drawing the words "Kings of Queens" on my elephant tee. It's a simple big cartel site which caters to independent labels. I chose this site for its easy templates and the shopping cart system. A more fuller website is on its way.

The styles of my shirts are slightly different as i am developing my brand. They are mainly targeted at the 18-25 yr old male urban market. I am hoping to make a print out on ladies tees. Any suggestion on which current design might work on women will be appreciated. Most of the designs are just designs but i plan to make more social commentary type tees like "the 11th hour". Its my take on human nature and our impact on earth. Future shirt ideas are about the 1 percent (1%), Monsanto [They remind me of the empire from star wars somehow], the banking cartel, and so forth.

I know it has nothing to do with micro but i wanted some valuable feedback from this community. I havent uploaded the FAQ page and i plan to upload a Lookbook page if i feel the need.

http://kingsthreads.com please hit the like button if you like the site as i have no shame in begging for like buttons!  ;D Much appreciated

I have come up with discount codes for anyone that wants to make some money. These codes will last for about 3 months. They are 15% off entire order. Its basically going to be around $1.50 per shirt (other products are different rate) ordered so if you give out the code and someone uses that and orders 4 shirts, thats $6 in your pocket. I will figure out a way for you to track the amount of sales. The payout will happen once you hit $25. Then i will pay you thru paypal. Anyone interested can email me at [email protected]

Can anyone point me to where i can get a fairly generic model release? This might seem obvious to some but the only model release i am familiar with is from istock.

Shutterstock.com / Who is High Leg Studio?
« on: September 15, 2011, 15:42 »
http://www.shutterstock.com/cat.mhtml?prev_sort_method=popular&gallery_id=146584&safesearch=1&images_per_page=100&thumb_size=small&prev_sort_method=newest&sort_method=popular&page=1

Just came across this design studios portfolio on SS and i have to say i am very impressed with the quality and a little worried. Its pretty obvious to me that there are numerous different artists work in this portfolio with over 360 pages on 100 image per page setting. The first 10 pages by popular setting are really great works and then you goto page 300 and the work is of a lower standard.

If its not legitimate, im more than worried about some type of scam going on here. Anyone familiar with this portfolio? Im really curious to know if an actual design studio would go through all this for subscription prices only on shutterstock. Wouldnt this design studio try to make money off its own designs outside shutterstock? Tried googling them and nothing comes up. very fishy indeed since some of these designs are spectacular and IMO command higher prices. But who cares if they are stolen bundled images and the thief wants a quick buck.

I can be totally wrong and a bunch of artists formed this group on SS working out of china or india where wages tend to be cheaper.

I forgot what the percentages were but it seems like a pretty drastic cut from last year. I remember getting ELs with me getting over $100. This year none of my ELs go close to that amount. Anyone with any info much appreciated. Cant seem to find it on istock.

iStockPhoto.com / how many views are you getting?
« on: July 19, 2011, 11:50 »
Im curious on how many views your new uploads are getting these days. Two vector illustrations that i uploaded two weeks ago have around 30 views each. These are in two different subject matter which in my experience is pretty popular subject matter. I have a pretty bad memory but i seem to remember image views would get into the hundreds after a week or so just last year even in the slow summer months. Im wondering if photos are experiencing the same decrease in views. lack of buyers, increased competition, best match, slider... too many variables to even try to stress over. just ranting  :-\

iStockPhoto.com / popular images to vetta or not to vetta.
« on: July 01, 2011, 12:08 »
Ive been seeing a lot of images with a lot of downloads go into the vetta collection. I am wondering if they are still successful as before. Thoses files have been in the istock library for awhile now and would have enough data history to figure out if getting put into vetta has paid off or not. I have no photos that can go into that collection but I just started to put some vectors on and im wondering if vettas worth it.

It gets more complicated with the new price filter.... decisions decisions...

20
It just seems like that has been the case with me anyways. Add to that the discontented buyers leaving with every new "collection" stuffed at the front. It really seems like Getty content before istock content now.

21
Im hoping people might share their opinions on their views of what constitutes successful files. Im sure this would be pretty interesting read for newbies who are clueless about successful files at least for vectors. i know i was pretty clueless for at least a year.

Im an exclusive vector artist on istock and i mainly try to create vectors that are 15-20 credits range while most of my sellers are 15 credits. I would love to hear different stories from others not exclusive to istock to compare notes. Im not geting into what sells since the demand for different subject matter varies.

I mainly look at dl's a month to guage a hot seller. heres my opinion on the numbers

dl's a month
50+ god i wish i had some files that fit into this category!!!!
30+ jackpot
20+ awesome
10+ great seller
5+ good seller
3-5  still decent
1-3 i hope i didnt spend too much time on these
less than 1 a month means my execution is bad and need to study competition/demand

I also guage by downloads to views. A download for every 30 views is very good and under 20 views is pretty much front page material.

Unfortunately, these days at istock, the numbers are dropping so these number are sort of based on what i thought prior to sept 2010. My expectations have lowered =(

I also think these higher numbers i have posted will get harder and harder to achieve as more competition takes a piece. I would love to know what it was like in the heydays since i wasnt around then.

22
Excuse my ignorance if there is already something besides subscription plan. I cant possibly sell some of my files on istock for pennies for download on your site. Im sure there are many artists like me who will cancel istock exclusitivity if a higher pay as you go plan was introduced. step out of the all you can eat mentality and go with some fine dining on the side!!!

iStockPhoto.com / P+ collection = end of istock
« on: May 13, 2011, 09:25 »
Wheres the perks for exclusives anymore? It definitely feels like a trap. Every new collection these greedy mofos fart out, the regular main collection gets stomped further and further into obscurity. Unless you fill the majority of your portfolio as agency and vetta files, theres no longer any point in becoming exclusive imo.
I think this is a last ditch effort to squeeze out the most from buyers as they are exiting. win win for indies and istock while bad for exclusives.

iStockPhoto.com / download trends
« on: May 09, 2011, 23:27 »
Up until late last year, i used to get the majority of my downloads 9-5pm eastern us time. Nowadays Im getting downloads at all hours  which means that the buyer market has been expanding into asia but i believe istock has lost a lot of US buyers. anyone else seeing a similiar trend?

iStockPhoto.com / what da? istock...
« on: April 13, 2011, 13:11 »
This afternoon I get an email from someone that wants to purchase one of my files and cant through istock. She tells me istock told her that "istock is dismantling their site". Thats her words she used. I am not sure if thats correct but what is correct is that she cannot dl my images for some odd reason and needed to contact me directly.
Leads me to think of one of two things. Site doesnt work and has major issues and that might account for substantial drops in dl reported by some. Our files gets turned off and on for purchases which is highly unlikely imo but these days it seems anything goes.
One more what da eff moment as i read this troubling email from my gmail account. The advertisements on the side of the email is for THINKSTOCK. so istock/getty pays google to advertise in emails anything with the word "istock" gets a thinkstock ad.
