Hi all, hope everyone is staying safe.
Just wondering if anyone else has seen a recent influx of very low earning sales in the 'single and other' category on Shutterstock during the last few days?  Already today I have had 17 cent, 16 cent, 15 cent, 13 cent, 12 cent, and 10 cent sales. Never seen this amount of sales that are less than 38cents. Are Shutterstock running a promotion or something at the moment?

Cheers,
Chris.

Photography Equipment / The Best Unlimited Cloud Storage?
« on: January 22, 2019, 18:15 »
Hello everybody!

I have been a freelance photographer for over 8 years and have accumulated over 15GB worth of images which are all mostly stored on external hard-drives.  A few months ago I had an issue with a failing external hard-drive and I now need to look into storing all of my back-catalogue of images onto cloud storage. I therefore need a cloud storage company that would enable me to have unlimited storage.  I will then continue to use the cloud storage to upload all the new images that I take over the coming years.

Can anybody reccommend a good storage company that they use themselves?  How do you all store your back-catalogue of images?

Thank you in advance for you input and I look forward to reading and responding to your replies!

Thanks,
Chris.

Hi,
I was just wondering if anybody has yet received an explanation from iStock as to why the historical royalties txt document figures don't match up to what the old istock graphs said?

I emailed them awhile ago but not received any reply.  Our royalties may not seem urgent to iStock but their very important to us! Disgraceful.

iStockPhoto.com / ESP - Downloading the pdf Statement
« on: February 24, 2017, 09:25 »
The pdf statement is very detailed which is of course very good news - however, I have added up the number of images sold in December and this figure does not match the figure that was displayed on the old istock website?

Also, I have downloaded (from the Export tab in ESP) the iStock historical royalties txt document and none of the figures match up to what the old istock graphs said. Anybody else notice this?

iStockPhoto.com / Unable to Upload Images on iStock
« on: February 22, 2017, 03:57 »
Hi,
I have signed into iStock and there is no upload button, so I'm unable to upload anything.  Has anyone else noticed this?  Just to want to make sure that it's not just me!

Hi everyone, I was just wondering if anybody had had this situation?
I submitted some editorial product/still life shots and they were rejected as 'Altered Editorial' - which of course isn't allowed. However, I did not alter the images at all!  Is there any way of re-submitting the images and attaching a typed note to the reviewer?

General Stock Discussion / Google Books Search
« on: December 28, 2016, 09:55 »
Hi everyone,

For the past two or three years I've periodically searched my name on Google Books to see if any of my images have been used in publications and I was occasionally pleased to see that some images were indeed used in books.  However, in recent weeks, when I have tried to search my name in Google Books, the list seems to have shrunk with these books 'disappearing' - is this anything to do with the new European data protection law?  Is there any other database that can be searched for 'credited' images?

Thanks in advance for your help,
Chris

Today I've noticed an uncharacteristically low sales day - has anyone else had or noticed this?  I was wondering if there has been some problems with the SS site today?

Pond5 / Upload Query
« on: June 27, 2016, 09:00 »
Hi ladies and gents,

I haven't uploaded files to Pond5 for a while - have just been concentrating mainly on Shutterstock and Fotolia etc..  I have to catch up and submit the rest of my portfolio to Pond 5 but I just have one query about submitting to them.  When I've uploaded the files, all of my Titles and Descriptions lose all of their capital letters.  Do you go into each file and amend this? or is it okay just to leave it?  I'm probably just being a bit OCD about it to be honest but I'm just curious to know what you all do?  Does the lack of Capital letters in the titles and descriptions annoy you?

cheers,

Chris. :)

Des anybody know if it's possible to bulk delete files from the 'Unfinished Files' section?  Sorry if it's a silly question with an easy answer - I just can't see an option to do it?

Thanks,
Chris :)

Alamy.com / Sales not Appearing in Sales History?
« on: January 22, 2016, 16:58 »
Hi everyone,

Hope you're all well.

I am slightly concerned - over the past few months I have been collecting a few pieces of work that have been published with my Alamy/Chris Dorney credit and it is great to see that my images are being used!  However, some of the images that have been published with the Alamy credit have not appeared in my Sales History?  This is very concerning!  Does anybody know why?  Should i contact them?

If you could shed any light on this I would be very grateful!
Thanks,

Chris.

Shutterstock.com / Do SS ever respond to emails/messages??
« on: October 23, 2015, 08:18 »
Hi,
I have messaged SS twice now regarding some image submissions and they have failed to reply to me both times.  Is this usual?  I didn't realise that they were this poor at replying!  Is there any other way of contacting them?
Thanks for your help in advance,

Chris.

Hi,
I have been a microstock photographer for some years now and I have occasionally come across some of my images on Getty.  For example:
http://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/photo/eiffel-tower-in-paris-royalty-free-image/511436671

http://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/photo/st-pauls-cathedral-in-london-royalty-free-image/177734143

etc etc etc etc...

However, I have never ever tried to join Getty in the first place....but I am with istock and know that they are somewhat linked with Getty.  I am therefore assuming that istock have been putting my images onto Getty too - am I correct in assuming this??...

..and this leads me onto another question - I thought that Getty only sold images that were exclusive to them?  However, I have never submitted exclusive images to any stock agency.  Can anybody shine any light on this?

Thanks very much in advance!

Chris.

Hi all,
I know that the stock agencies or buyers don't contact the sellers with full-details on how/where/when the images will be used but today I sold an image through Alamy and the vague details of the sale have got me really wanting to know how my image will be used!  The details given are 'Newspaper - national' - 'Print Run - up to 500,000'

I occasionally do a google image search via my name and username etc to find some tear sheets, but are there any other methods of finding your images?  I'm very intrigued to find tear sheets of the above image.

cheers,

Chris :)

General Stock Discussion / Engravings sold on Microstock websites
« on: February 23, 2015, 10:23 »
Hi everyone, hope you had a good weekend.
I have noticed a lot of scans of 'engravings' on the micro stock websites and I've always wondered where they stand on the copyright of them?  I'm talking about images like this:

http://www.dreamstime.com/royalty-free-stock-photography-hampton-court-royal-palace-london-borough-richmond-thames-greater-london-historic-county-middlesex-image35675087

http://www.dreamstime.com/royalty-free-stock-photos-william-shakespeare-image20396098

Are they allowed to scan and sell them on micro stock websites because the engravings are over a certain number of years old?  I'm just intrigued.

Chris :)

Hi all,
I am totally puzzled - as usual I received my December earnings from Shutterstock via Paypal on the 7th January.  I check my emails tonight to see that they shave sent me another sum of money?  (this sum is about a fifth of last months earnings) - this has never happened before and this sum of money they have sent isn't in any of the 'earnings pages' on my account.

Is this a glitch?  I thinking it must be as I haven't earned this odd amount - however there is 'real' money in my Paypal account.  Totally Puzzled!

New Sites - General / Anybody use clashot.com
« on: July 13, 2014, 11:58 »
Just a question that does what it says on the tin:

Does anybody here use clashot.com?  How is going there?

Hi everybody, hope you are all doing well.

This question may have been asked before but is it possible to include a note to the reviewer when submitting an image?

Thanks,

Chris.

iStockPhoto.com / Keywording Annoyance of IS's 'New' Vocab System
« on: December 04, 2012, 21:00 »
I'm about to have a little rant.....

Being quite a newcomer to IS, (joined about 2 months ago), I have become soo annoyed at what they call their 'New Vocabulary System' for keywording images.  Most of the other stock agencies like 'conceptual' types of keywords that link well to the images which is what I have become used to doing over the past few years and since joining IS, I have had some of my submissions rejected because some of my keywords do not relate totally to the images - when they really DO relate!

Has anybody else been annoyed by this?  I know and understand that they are trying to improve their keywording systems but some of the keywords on my images that they deem to be as 'not relating to the image' ARE actually terms that have been successfully searched for on other agencies, and have indeed sold the image.  It just peeves me off a bit lol.

I know it is something that I just have to live with, but wanted to have a rant about it now to get it off my chest!!  ;D

So I will now continue uploading the lame amount of 18 images for this week and spend time deleting "in-appropriate" keywords in the hope that IS's vocab system agrees with me lol.

Hope you are all well!!
Chris :)

Shutterstock.com / SS Earnings gone down to Zero but no payment?
« on: December 01, 2012, 08:02 »
Hi,

Very concerned to log into my Shutterstock account this morning and see that my earnings have gone down to Zero when last night there was nearly $200 dollars in there.  They haven't sent me any payment or anything.  Very worrying!

I've only been with Shutter stock for a few months - is this a common bug??  Hope you say it is!

Thanks,

Chris.

Dreamstime.com / The "disappearing sale".
« on: November 13, 2012, 09:47 »
Hi,

I checked my Dreamstime total last night and saw that I had just sold a file for about $3.00.  I went back to check it again today and that sale had simply disappeared!  It is the first time this has happened to me - is there any way that I can check to see what happened?  Has this happened to anybody else?
