Alamy.com / Success stories on Alamy - the $100,000+ club
« on: January 26, 2018, 03:58 »
Hi Everyone,

As you may (or may not!) know, we do keep an eye on this forum to see what the community has to say about us :)

There is a theme that seem to come up a fair bit: People asking if Alamy is working for others and whether or not people have success with us. With this in mind, we've put together a series of blog posts called the $100k+ club, where we speak to photographers who have made at least $100,000 worth of sales on Alamy. We ask them for a few words about their experience and give them the opportunity to offer some insight to others.

We're up to part three now, and I thought some of you may find the posts interesting so I wanted to highlight them for you here.

Hi everyone,

It's great to see so many of you using the new image tools on Alamy to upload and annotate new content as well as go back and apply those optional extra tweaks to the older images.

We appreciate there may be a period of time where you need to get used to the new system and the newer ways of doing things, so hopefully these links will help.

September 2016 was simply our best sales month ever. This comes against the general trend of 25% revenue growth for Alamy sales year on year. We blogged about it here:

Thanks to all of you who continue to contribute to Alamy and be part of the success.

Alamy.com / New to Alamy? Read this! :-)
« on: March 07, 2016, 09:16 »
Hi there,

We're really happy to have seen a big rise in the growth rate of new photographers registering with us over the last 12 months or so. It's great to see so many new people joining the 40,000 photographers already placing their work with Alamy.

Along with these new registrations, it's understandable that there are lots of questions about how Alamy works so we've recently updated all our contributor help pages. You can get to them by following this link:

http://www.alamy.com/contributor/

Also, we'd like to remind you of the following:

- We give 50% commission
- We're non-exclusive (so you can sell your images elsewhere)
- Our acceptance rate averages around 92%
- You can sell your work either as RM or RF

We're aware that our upload and keywording system is looking a bit tired and for many of you this is what stops you sending us more images. The good news is that we are in the process of updating this and within the next few months there's going to be a much better system in place for uploading and managing your files, we think you're going to love it. We appreciate your patience waiting for the release!

So if you're new to Alamy or haven't used us much, please check out our help pages and if you've got any questions, our Member Services team ([email protected]) will be more than happy to help. If you email us within UK office hours our average response time is less than an hour  :D

If you've got a large collection (5000+ images) you would like to submit in bulk, please send me a PM and I'll see what we can do to make the process as easy as possible before the new image tools are released.

Cheers

I'm a photographer, get me out of here!

We're putting a blog post together collating as many tales as we can of difficult situations photographers have found themselves in whilst out in the field.

Maybe you got caught out by an incoming tide and had to gather your gear before getting soaked?

Maybe you turned up to shoot a wedding and realised you didn't have any memory cards with you?

Have you ever climbed the top of a mountain to get the best viewpoint and then realised you'd bought the wrong lens with you?

Your stories can be funny, serious, silly or scary - if we like it we'll feature your story in the blog next week. Please try and keep the stories down to a single paragraph so we can feature as many as possible on the Alamy Blog.

Cheers!

p.s - we're not looking for business / state of the industry / pricing stories for this one - we're interested in the practical side  :)

Hopefully you're all regular readers already, but if not, here's a link to the Alamy Blog: http://www.alamy.com/Blog/

and more specifically, the posts marked "for contributors": http://www.alamy.com/blog/category/for-contributors

At least 2 posts a week get added and we're open to suggestions for future topic posts. If there's anything you'd like us to explore, explain, interpret or investigate for a future blog post, let us know. We'll read all replies and suggestions in this thread and where possible will put together the relevant blog posts for you in the near future.

Cheers

We're starting to work on something we've wanted to do for a while now: improving the upload and keywording process.

Although our turnaround times for image processing are one of the quickest in the business, it's clear that our upload tool and keyword management areas of the site could be far more user friendly.

We're looking at vastly streamlining the whole process to make keywording and uploading more elegant and efficient which should make submitting images to us a far more enjoyable experience.

So what would you want to see changed / bought in? We're already sold on the idea of removing the flash element of manage images, and we have plenty of other exciting ideas up our sleeves for how we think things could be made better, but we're looking for your top 3 things you'd like to see improved.

Every idea will be read and considered.

Cheers

Alamy.com / Responding to PMs
« on: August 14, 2014, 03:22 »
Hi - we've had a number of people PM us asking for tips / suggestions based on their Alamy portfolio.

This is just a message to you all to say that we will work through them and get back to each of you, but we are a bit snowed under in the office at the moment so it might take us a little while.

Cheers!
