Shutterstock.com / What a cool SS, how well he sells
« on: November 09, 2022, 17:54 »
A thread for all your positive SS news and big-ish sales! I'll start... after a pretty poor summer, sales are back up to around the $200/$300 a month mark (I only have 292 videos there), and here's a pretty decent one from the end of October.

Pond5 / Missing Files?
« on: July 21, 2019, 08:12 »
Howdy! Can somebody do me a favour? Log in to your Pond5 account, go to the 'uploads' tab and check the number of files in the list is correct.

Mine is showing 119 when I should have 405 files. I'm hoping this isn't a massive issue, because I'm still seeing them in my public profile, and I had sales of items yesterday that aren't showing in the list... so It's not like they've actually disappeared or been deleted... but it does mean I can't edit the ones that aren't showing in my list. Will give it 24 hours and contact support, could be a glitch, but just wanted to see if I'm the only one.

Thanks!

Just found somebody on Pond5 selling a whole bunch of my video content. Exact same files I have on Pond5 myself, with much later ID numbers, so hopefully shouldn't be a problem getting them removed/banned... but just thought I'd share so you can check for your own content.

There's also accounts on BigStock and DepositPhotos using the same username... just images on those though. Have contacted Pond5 support.

Pond5 / 4K on Pond5
« on: June 21, 2018, 00:14 »
Not sure what's happening with Pond5, but I've had four 4K sales this month... when I normally get about four 4K sales in a year! BME for sales as well... they seem to be a lot higher for the whole of 2018, and my item views are through the roof for the past couple of months.

I can only assume they changed the search criteria or something, as I can't see them doubling their actual customers overnight. So my gain is probably someone else's loss, but I'm not going to complain too much... I'm sure things will level out when they next alter the search engine!

Almost $200 in extended license revenue this month as well, on top of sales. Hope it continues... unlikely though!

General Stock Discussion / Motion Array
« on: February 20, 2018, 19:00 »
So I stumbled across Motion Array a couple of nights ago. The name sounds familiar and I'm sure I'd seen it before, but I'm not sure why I'd never been a contributor there. They do video, motion graphics and After Effects templates... no images. So I thought I may as well sign up and see how I get on. It's a subscription site, no direct sales (so low amount per download but hopefully made up on volume)... which isn't exactly ideal, but I thought I'd try it for a few months, see how I get on.

So I submit ten videos as you're only allowed ten items in the review queue at any one time. I get an email 24 hours later saying they need a copy of my ID. I send it over and 24 hours later they've already approved 4 of my items. Better still, less than four hours after my first item was approved, I've already had a sale! Well, 'a download'.

It's pretty good as there's complete transparency on the 'sellers stats page'... it shows the total revenue they've made in that month, the total amount that will be paid out to contributors, how those amounts break down to different item types (videos/templates etc) how many downloads I've had, what percentage of the total downloads that represents, and how much that equates to in real money. No waiting until the end of the month... or the 20th of the following month to find out how much you've made! Just $3.47 for my one download but we'll see how I get on from a volume standpoint.

I'm mildly impressed with them so far... but I'll report back in a month or two.

iStockPhoto.com / ESP Login Issue
« on: February 03, 2018, 02:13 »
Anyone else having trouble logging into ESP? I go to the main page using the following link...

https://esp.gettyimages.com/

...and it keeps changing the URL to:

https://esp.gettyimages.com/?returnUrl=/%3FreturnUrl=/?returnUrl=/?returnUrl=/?returnUrl=/?returnUrl=/?returnUrl=/?returnUrl=/?returnUrl=/?returnUrl=/

I'm getting either a 'too many redirects' error, or a 'this page isn't working' error. Is it just me?

General Stock Discussion / IMDB Credit Etiquette
« on: February 03, 2018, 01:42 »
Ahoy there!

Just wondering what the etiquette is for adding yourself to a tv shows credits if theyve used your stock footage in a production? Is that a no-no seeing theyre buying your stuff royalty free or is it a generally accepted occurrence? Maybe an Additional VFX/Animation by (uncredited) type thing.

If its bad form to do so, then happy to not bother. But if everyone is at it, then I may as well get in on the action. Got a few pretty high profile shows that Id like to add to my page if possible.

Cheers!

"Greetings! You've got a payment from MotionElements. Artist payout for Image and GIF (January 2017 - December 2017)"

Interesting. I think it was one of those initiatives that you get emailed about and can opt in or out... you know the type: "new ways for our members to generate additional revenue" etc etc... which I'd completely forgotten about. Strange you get paid on an annual basis though.

Unfortunately it was only $10.58, but as I only made $246 from normal sales from 2017, I wasn't expecting to get much when I first signed up.

Shutterstock.com / Shutterstock Raise Confirmation
« on: December 13, 2017, 00:36 »
So this increase to $0.36 per download. I'm assuming it will have 0% effect on the sale of videos, which account for 100% of my earnings... and 100% effect on the sale of images, which account for 0% of my earnings? Happy days!

CanStockPhoto.com / FTP settings for CanStockPhoto
« on: April 24, 2017, 23:18 »
So I thought I'd give CanStockPhoto a try, see if it's any good, and I get the email today saying I've been approved. So I go to sell files, and I'm getting the attached image. There's an FTP address, but no login details. Tried my email address and password for CanStock, but no joy, and there's nothing in the help pages about it. Any ideas?

Shutterstock.com / Someone reselling items
« on: April 11, 2017, 12:28 »
Here's one of my clips:

https://www.shutterstock.com/video/clip-11325599-stock-footage-networked-earth-orange.html?src=gallery/23qriuDMjh_OMpx9dsAq8Q:1:13/3p

And I've just stumbled across this clip:

https://www.shutterstock.com/video/clip-18804398-stock-footage-growing-global-network-networked-earth.html?src=search/Yx1ywjybvys4S2UmRGClNA:1:72/3p

Have reported it to support, so we'll see what happens. Had a look through the entire portfolio... no other ones of mine, although I did find a couple of clips I recognised, so have let the relevant artists know. Thought I'd share here just in case anybody wants to see if they've uploaded any of their clips.

I wonder how much money they made on it?

General Stock Discussion / Sales stopped at Videoblocks?
« on: February 14, 2017, 05:08 »
I appreciate that two weeks isn't enough time to indicate a worrying trend, I am just one contributor out of thousands, and variance can and does happen.... but I've had about ten sales a month at Videoblocks over the past four to six months or so, and I've not had a single sale yet this month.

Anyone else?

Shutterstock.com / Shutterstock Not Loading?
« on: December 28, 2016, 04:37 »
Anyone else having the same issue? I just keep getting an error page. I'm using a bookmark for the contributor homepage. I thought the link might have broken, so I go to the SS homepage (which works) then scroll to the bottom and use the 'contribute' link... same thing.

iStockPhoto.com / Prices for 4K and UHD
« on: December 20, 2016, 19:47 »
So I see that you can now upload 4K and UHD using Quicktime Photo JPEG and I upload about 16 clips. They get approved today and I check out the prices... and they're 6 credits each, the same as my HD stuff. Is that right? They are UHD, rather than 4K so I'm not sure if that makes a difference?

So that's about $47 for 4K. 15% commision makes it about $7 per sale. And people say VideoHive is bad... there you'd get $9 if you're non-exclusive, and $12.5 to $17.50 for a 4K sale!

I guess the only upside is that if a buyer is torn between my file and somebody else's file.... they're more likely to go for mine if it's 4K and theirs is only HD... especially if it's the same price.

iStockPhoto.com / Crazy Big Sales?
« on: August 25, 2016, 03:52 »
Anyone had some crazy big sales on iStock today? I normally hit the $100 payout minimum once every other month, averaging about $60 a month. Today I've made $85 in the past few hours. I'm guessing it could be a bunch of extended licenses, but at 15%, that means somebody (or a bunch of people) have shelled out $566 on my stuff in one morning. Big spenders!

Makes me wish the same buyers had stumbled across my VideoBlocks portfolio instead! Anyway, hope there's no sales reversals or anything.

Pond5 / Pricing on Pond5
« on: August 16, 2016, 02:11 »
Ok, so I see a lot of threads where people increase the price of their items on P5 and their sales stay the same, or sometimes even increase. I thought I'd give it a try and it's not been the same for me unfortunately!

All my HD stuff was originally priced at $25 and $49 for 4K. I started selling stock on VideoHive back when it was $6 for HD and now it's up to $8 for HD. If I'd started on SS or iS then I probably would have been pricing my clips at $79 or something.

Anyway, so a month ago I decided to double all my prices... $49 for HD and $99 for 4K. The main reason was that I've been travelling for a couple of months and hadn't uploaded anything since I've been away... so it would be a better comparison of sales, as normally my portfolio is increasing month on month.

The month prior to increasing my prices I made $150, and the month since increasing my prices, I've made $106.50. Not a massive difference, but with the 100% increase in price, that means about a 65% drop in the number of sales.

My work isn't the best, but it's of a pretty decent standard, so I get a few sales on SS, iS, VB, FT etc... but the majority of my sales still come from VideoHive. I'm wondering if...

A) There's a certain market, for certain types of stock, that have different price expectations or budgets?

B) I've not waited long enough to draw any accurate comparisons.

C) It's just that it's summer, and things might pick up next month.

D) I should have put them up by 50% instead.

Anyway... just thinking outloud. Any advice or opinions would be gratefully received!

Scott

VideoBlocks / The thing that bothers me with VideoBlocks.
« on: August 06, 2016, 04:05 »
Overall I like VideoBlocks. The 100% is obviously great, the $49 for HD is ok, and the site is pretty user friendly.

However, there's one thing that I really do hate about VideoBlocks, and that's the way they market their subscriptions. They'll send out non stop emails saying that there's a special offer of $99 (which is 90% off) for a year, and that you need to hurry as this offer will expire in two days or three days or whatever.

The thing is, the offer never expires. It just starts again as soon as the last one ends. I'd be very surprised if anybody has paid the $1000 a year that they're insinuating the subscription should cost. And if it is, always has been, and probably always will be $99, then surely it's not 90% off... as the regular price is $99?

Maybe I'm getting worked up over nothing, but it just feels like some kind of sleazy used car salesman tactic... or those shops that always have closing down sales but they never close down. I'm surprised they're not giving away a set of kitchen knives if you order today!

Although, they do have 'proper sales' form time to time when it's $49 or something. They should keep those, and do away with the constant bombarding of non-existent sale. It sounds cheap and it feels cheap and I'm sure it's not that appealing to professional organisations who could be potential buyers.

Surely presenting it as one, consistent, transparent, low price for a quality offering... is better than using the kind of sales tactics that appeal to customers of late night shopping channels and get rich quick schemes? "But wait! There's more..."

Anyway, just wanted to get that out of my system. Peace out.

VideoBlocks / Strange...
« on: June 30, 2016, 21:11 »
So I join VideoBlocks in Feb. In Feb I get $94.32, March I get $94.32, April get $94.32, May it's $94.32 and June I get $0.00. Then just a couple of hours into July I get two sales in a row to make $94.32 for July.

When my average of two sales a month total, both come in the first 0.25% of the month, my suspicious mind makes me wonder if those sales were actually from June, and they were delayed to July for some kind of cash flow reason. I mean, they've now got an extra 30 days to pay out that money.

I could be wrong. It could just be a coincidence. Maybe I'll end up getting four sales in July rather than the usual two. Maybe I'll get another two sales at 3am on the first of August. I can go with coincidence this time, but if that happens next month then it would raise an eye brow or two.

Shutterstock.com / When does Shutterstock pay out?
« on: June 05, 2016, 15:16 »
Is there a specific day of the month that Shutterstock pay out? I'm in Vegas for the next four days and things aren't going that well! I know 90% of places pay out on the 15th, later for iStock and earlier for Shutterstock. I got paid on the 9th last month but as I've only had a couple of payouts from them so far, I wasn't sure if that was an exception or the norm. Thanks!

Here's an announcement made today by Envato. Something I've wanted for years....

Im pleased to announce that over the next few weeks we will be rolling out a new upload tool for our VideoHive footage and motion graphics authors. We hope this new upload page makes it much easier to upload and submit your clips to VideoHive. Well be launching the page to more and more authors over the coming weeks, so if you see the following message next time you visit the VideoHive upload page, youll know that you have been granted access to this great new tool.

Heres a list of some of the exciting new features that should make it easier for footage and motion graphics authors to upload their new items

Previews & Thumbnails Auto-generated
No more need to upload separate thumbnails and preview videos! The new upload process will generate these files from your uploaded video. You no longer need to create a ZIP file for your item - simply upload your clip as an MOV or MP4 file and well take care of the rest! Well auto-detect some of the technical metadata such as duration & resolution and will also generate a watermarked preview video.

Upload from Dropbox
As well as uploading files from your browser using new drag and drop upload, you can upload your items directly from your Dropbox account. And of course you can still upload using FTP!

Prepare and Submit Multiple Items
You no longer need to submit files one by one. You can upload as many files as you like, prepare the tags and descriptions for all of your files and then send your files to the review process with a single submission.

Adobe Stock / Fotolia Withdrawals
« on: April 13, 2016, 05:29 »
So I've just made my first withdrawal on Fotolia... I think! It's not very intuitive as I'm going to 'convert credits', which I want to do, as I want to turn my credits into money. But what I really want to do is to withdraw that money. By converting credits, are you automatically requesting a withdrawal as well? I entered my Paypal like asked, so I'm assuming that might be the case, but everywhere else I 'withdraw' rather than 'convert'. Didn't seem to get any kind of confirmation saying... "thanks for withdrawing, it's pending, we'll send you some money. Thanks." or anything like that.

And when they say seven days for withdrawals..., is that usually the case?

Thanks!  :)

DepositPhotos / DP good for Video?
« on: March 18, 2016, 04:42 »
Howdy!

Relatively new to MicroStockGroup. Thought I'd take advantage of the Microstock Poll to decide on new places to upload my portfolio and it looks like DepositPhotos was the only biggish one I wasn't on already. So I've just submitted 25 different video clips to see how I get on.

Just a couple of questions if possible...

1) How long do they take to review on average and will I get an email when they;re approved/rejected? Will save me logging in every day to check if they do.

2) What have people's experiences been with video sales there? They're reasonably high in the ratings, but just trying to figure out if that's mainly due to image sales or whether they're good for video as well?

I guess I'll find these things out before too long, but just wanted to get a head start on the info! I only need to sell 150,000 more clips and then I'll be on 8% less commission than Pond 5. Yay!

Thanks!
