I've been uploading to Pond5 for 9 years.  My website and YouTube videos link to Pond5 collections.  I had assumed the liked how many links I have sending people to my clips on Pond5 since they've accepted 100% of my submitted clips for years now... but the last few weeks my clips are getting rejected or returned. I'm not doing anything different.  Is anyone else experiencing something similar or did I just recently get a strict curator??

General Stock Discussion / Stock Footage YouTube Video
« on: October 16, 2023, 19:45 »
What's up y'all!  I recently made a video touching in on some of my experience in creating stock footage since 2015.  I've been focusing more on YouTube recently, but this is my first video about stock footage.  I plan on covering more topics within this genre... so I'd really appreciate it if you guys can take a look and let me know what you think.  Thanks!

I've been selling stock footage and photos since 2015, with most income from the footage.  Like everyone else, that income has been dropping over the last 3 years.  It has come to a point where the effort put into creating high quality footage isn't seeing enough return to continue with my same strategy, uploading to all the sites.  I'd love to focus on one site to sell exclusive footage with hopes to simplify my process while possibly earning more because of exclusivity.

Does anyone have info on what the best site for this would be??

General Stock Discussion / Made a Short Film with My Stock Footage
« on: December 06, 2019, 17:46 »
Hey y'all, has anyone edited any films using their own stock footage?  I recently made a short snowboard movie that I started filming middle of last winter.  At that point it was unplanned, but I then resorted to the last few years of stock footage to create a story around an idea I had.  I'll post the link below for anyone that would like to check it out.  If anyone else has made some edits with their footage, post a link in your comment... I'd love to give it a look!

General Stock Discussion / Contributing to Artgrid?
« on: July 31, 2019, 19:46 »
Hello is anyone contributing to Artgrid.io that would like to give feedback of their experience?

After a while of uploading some mediocre images to Fine Art America and completely neglecting them, I'm finally about to add some higher quality images and give Print on Demand another shot.  I embedded the widget to my website, which looks clean and professional, but I don't like how many print options there is available...

My question:  Is there a way to limit the amount of print and frame options on a photo by photo basis?  To clarify, I would like to only sell metal and acrylic on one image, but then have only canvas on another.

It looks like I'm able to deselect all the other household print options.  I can also specify exactly what print size options I want available for each image.  I just don't see a way to deselect all the frame, matte, and paper options.  To me it seems like it would be a lot of work for the average customer to think about.  In my opinion, people want a lot of those details figured out for them.

Anyone with experience in these matters?

General Stock Discussion / Anyone film/submit vertical footage?
« on: February 27, 2018, 17:54 »
I've recently done some freelance work filming vertically for an app.  Kinda annoying to deal with in my opinion, but left me wondering if there's a need for vertical footy in the stock footage industry.  Has anyone filmed or submitted any vertical footage for smartphones and apps?  Will the top agencies accept this?

Is there anyone selling videos on their personal or business website that could recommend a plug in.  I've built my business website with Squarespace and would like to find a way of uploading thousands of videos to a website with a customizable plug in to embed to my Squarespace website.  I currently am doing that by embedding my Nimia portfolio, but I would like to cut out the middle man and sell directly.  Any suggestions?

I'm trying to find out a good way of emailing a model/talent release to people that's easy for them to fill out and send back, that doesn't require them to print and scan it.  I've been using the Easy Release app for all my releases in person but I'm looking for a way to email releases with a curser at all the required boxes and an E-Signature or signature that auto fills when they type their name.  This type of thing is not my specialty so any information would help, thanks.

And yes I know the professional thing would be to have people sign a release before filming.  I've been doing aerial work of kayaking and rafting.  Sometimes I'm told a certain part of a river to post up at and don't get to see some of the people before or after the float.  This example is what created the issue.

General Stock Discussion / Selling 360 VR Videos
« on: February 24, 2017, 00:54 »
Has anyone been selling any 360 VR videos?  Looks like it would be through Videoblocks and Pond5 at this point.  I'm thinking about giving it a try but not sure what camera to go with.  Will a $500 360Fly cut it, or do I need to get a multi-Gopro rig?  Any advice would be amazing, thanks!

Just received an email from Videoblocks to opt in for Enterprise.  Sounds like an extended license type situation for large production companies to purchase footage for unlimited views and such.  Contributors will make 60% instead of the %100 commission from their normal marketplace, but they say the sale prices will be high enough that we will never make less on an Enterprise sale then we would in marketplace.  Seems like a good deal to me, I opted in.  Any thoughts on this??

General Stock Discussion / Shutterstock in 4th place this month
« on: February 09, 2017, 19:57 »
Fotolia and Pond5 have slowly been gaining on Shutterstock in sales for me in the last couple months, but right now it's in 4th place.  Are you guys seeing the same?  I know the poll on side bar here doesn't show that.  Here's my order right now:
1) Videoblocks
2) Pond5
3) Fotolia
4) Shutterstock

General Stock Discussion / Videohive High Priced Footage
« on: January 25, 2017, 13:09 »
I just went to the Videohive site to explore the option of uploading there but keeping my prices high.  I'm aware they're known for selling very low priced footage but I was thinking about experimenting.  I see some people doing well on Pond5 with video clips at $500 each so I was wondering if there's any of that happening at Videohive, since it's another agency where you can set your own price.

Here's what happened:  I did a search for "aerial" with the price range of $100-500... Nothing.  Then I left the search bar blank... Nothing!  I then dropped with price range to $50-500 and finally some clips started to appear.

So even with 4k footage they don't even have 1 clip listed at over $100?  Is this place the frickin' armpit of microstock!?

I guess my real question is, would it be worth it to upload some clips and list them at... say $200, with hopes that some buyers might see them as higher quality and less populated?  I'm just trying to experiment here with agencies that allow us to set our own prices.  I'd love to hear thoughts on this.

I like the way little grain looks on my nature images but haven't added it to any Ive submitted assuming they'll be rejected.  Just curious if others bump up the grain a little bit.

Hi I'm looking for a site to start an account for my 12 year old son.  He's quickly becoming a better photographer than me and I would love to start an account for him to start earning money at a young age.  Has anyone had experience with this?  Based on some looking around a few months ago it looked like most sites require you to be 18 years old.

16
I'm looking for suggestions about the best site to sell high quality videos.  I'm currently filming with a Panasonic GH4 and a Phantom 3 Professional, which are great tools for microstock, but I'll soon be upgrading to much higher quality equipment and I just can't see myself throwing those clips in with the rest of my microstock portfolio.  My plan is to get a R3D Raven with a Movi and an Inspire 1 Raw.  I would prefer to go exclusive with those clips and sell them at a higher price point than my other clips.  Does anyone have any suggestions or experience in this area?  Maybe sell them for around $400 each on Pond5?

17
Can anyone recommend a stock photo site that allows me to embed my portfolio on my personal website??  I use Nimia to embed my video portfolio on my website, but it's hard to believe there isn't any photo sites that allow the same sort of thing.

18
I read something somewhere that Motionelements is worth uploading to a while back.  About 6 months ago I uploaded about 85 of my best clips and haven't had 1 sale yet.  Is this similar to other contributors experiences or should I add more and stick with them?

19
I'm looking to embed single photos and possibly my entire library on my website with the option of buying, like I did with videos on Nimia.  Has anyone been able to make this happen??

General Stock Discussion / Selling Photo Prints Online
« on: March 18, 2016, 12:46 »
Hi I was recently reading the threat about Fine Art America and wanted to start a new thread about the topic of selling photo prints online.  I'm only about a year into selling stock footage and less than a year into selling stock photos, but the last few months I've been selling quite a few photos daily, and wonder how much money I'm missing out on by not offering a physical print.  At this point I don't have time to do the printing myself, so I have researched a few sites that handle all that like: Fotomoto, Smugmug, Snapfish, Shutterfly, and FineArtAmerica.  Not sure if any of them are worth the time, but I would love to hear some feedback from the more experienced people in this forum.  The only thing I did come up with is that they all take a pretty big commission for their services.  I would also like to know if anyone has integrated these printing services into their website.

Hello, I'm new to Microstock Group and this is my first post.  Been following discussions for a while and figured I'd get involved.  First question is one I've been wondering for a while.  Has anyone experienced an increase of traffic to their portfolio or sales after offering clips or images for free?

(I apologize if this has been covered before)
