Alamy.com / Infringement use
« on: March 22, 2024, 22:04 »
Ive got an unusual sale on Alamy. Under the use details, it tells me Editorial website and app multiple use, in perpetuity; Infringement.

I assume this means a buyer was wracked with guilt over stealing an image and decided to come clean and buy it for real?

Adobe Stock / Weird 1099 Email
« on: April 23, 2022, 15:05 »
A couple weeks ago, I received an official looking email from Adobe, saying my 1099 was incorrect and I needed to go to a website to download an updated one. The URL was... less than official looking, so I emailed Adobe directly. The responded to say it was a real email.

Although the site URL still made me uncomfortable, I visited and put in my info. Apparently I made $30 less than they originally thought.

That's what I want to do, go through refiling my taxes over $30 in less income. I think I'll pass! Hopefully the IRS doesn't mind keeping more than they had originally planned...

Bigstock.com / Why Big Stock?
« on: February 20, 2022, 20:25 »
Why does Shutterstock keep Big Stock around? Theyve owned it for years; I would have expected them to merge the sites ages ago, but they havent.

Print on Demand Forum / Keywording in Fine Art America?
« on: June 13, 2020, 16:28 »
I've been adding images to Fine Art America, but can't figure out their keywording. Some of my images show up in searches, but others do not appear even if I type the full multi-word titles.

I was going to reach out to them, but wanted to check here first to see if I'm missing a box somewhere or if my keywords need to be formatted differently in FAA vs stock sites. Am I missing something?

Dreamstime.com / Multiple EL Requests
« on: January 28, 2018, 22:27 »
I've received a bunch of Web-EL approval requests from Dreamstime, but I don't really know what 50 credits translates to in English -- their website says an EL on a Level 1 file is $17. Is that the net for the seller, or is that total then split between the seller and Dreamstime?

I'm a bit confused by the requests as is. Most of them are similar images, which makes sense, but a few are completely random files that are unrelated and have never been downloaded before.

General Stock Discussion / Delight and Annoyance
« on: October 14, 2017, 21:35 »
That exciting feeling when you discover one of your images in the wild... at your front door, in a local political campaign door stuffer that has probably made it into 10,000+ homes in the area, and then realize it's never sold for more than $2.48. I'm alternating between excited and annoyed. It's a bit strange.

Dreamstime.com / Cash Out?
« on: September 04, 2017, 21:37 »
After a little over two years, I've hit payout on Dreamstime, in large part thanks to what I think was a single person who boosted my typical daily sales count by about 1,000%. I suspect it will take a little less than two years to hit payout again.

My question is - how stable is Dreamstime? Do I want to maintain my account with the idea they'll still be a player in 2019, or is it time to close it down? The primary reason I'm asking is I don't know what would happen with balances if they were to shut down.

To be clear - I know nothing more about the company than everyone else here -- that they've been loosening license terms because sales haven't been what they wanted.

I'm migrating from a PC and am looking for a good photo management program. I'm not big on the Adobe subscription model, so Lightroom is out.

On my PC, I'm still using date coded folders and manually sorting things, but thought I might try out something different on the Mac.

While I like the built in Photos app, that it hides the original photos in bizarrely organized subfolders makes it useless to process the initial Raw photos in Nikon's NX software or to use Xpiks to upload them to stock sites.

What are others using?

iStockPhoto.com / Leaving iStock Question?
« on: February 23, 2017, 14:36 »
I told myself I'd see what the January sales looked like before leaving, but more than 10% of mine are now below $0.25, which is not okay. To others who left iStock, did you see any sales increase from the other microstocks afterward, or should I not expect to see a bump?

Shutterstock.com / $50 Single
« on: December 12, 2016, 20:53 »
I recently got a $50 'Single and Other' sale. I've never had one for anything close to that before. Why would someone end up paying such a big amount that I would get that much? I'm not complaining! I'm just curious.

Shutterstock.com / Out of Order Images?
« on: June 08, 2016, 22:48 »
I have photos that show up out of order in the Popularity ranking for particular search phrase. The photo that has sold more times is further down in the rankings than the photo that's sold less. Thoughts?

Shutterstock.com / Do I Need A Property Release Here?
« on: May 27, 2016, 20:21 »
I've had a photo of a State Supreme Court building rejected  by Shutterstock three times for needing a Property Release. The building isn't a private office building, it's owned by the state.

They've accepted my photos of the building across the street... the Capitol.

Could the fact that the building was built in the 1970's be the issue? That the architecture is copyrighted? They didn't reject it for copyright reasons.

Thoughts?

Adobe Stock / 1099 Issue
« on: April 07, 2016, 13:35 »
I did not receive a 1099 from Fotolia. It took a couple exchanges with tech support, but I learned that while they had my W-8, there was a second place elsewhere on their site I had to input my SSN in order to receive a 1099.

It looks like they won't issue me one for this year now, so I'm curious for thoughts on how I should handle this on my taxes? There was withholding on my account; I made some early sales before submitting a W-8.

I have a follow up inquiry with them, but suspect they won't be able to help. Thoughts?
