Does anyone know if the Getty Docusign for collection of secondary rights is legit? I have an email in to them but who knows how long that will take.

iStockPhoto.com / Getty Video royalties change
« on: July 31, 2023, 12:22 »
iStock Rate Card Update
Given the success of the iStock Premium + Video subscription and in recognition of the investments contributors make to produce great video, we are making changes to more closely align their royalty allocations to credit values.

To enable this, well start to assign all video Downloads more value in our Premium + Video subscription, especially Signature/Signature+. For customers, files will continue to have equal value. However, in our royalty calculations we will assign a relative value to Downloads as follows (similar to how we price files for customers using credits):

Collection & File Type: Relative Value
Essentials Photos/Illustrations: 1
Signature/Signature+ Photos/Illustrations: 3
Essentials Video: 6
Signature/Signature+ Video: 18
Downloads with a higher relative value will receive a higher price per file for royalties. This will help ensure we better reward video files, just like we do when customers make credit purchases. You wont see any change on your statements and your royalty rates are not affected.

Example

A customer has a 10‑downloads Premium Plus Video subscription, costing $200 per month. In a given month, they might download one Signature video, one Essentials video, four Signature images, and four Essentials images. Currently we divide that $200 equally between the 10 files when calculating price per file for royalties. But with this change, well divide the $200 proportionally based on the file type and collection using the relative value. This would result in the prices per file below, which you would receive your regular royalty percentage on:
Signature video: $90.00
Essentials video: $30.00
Signature images: $15.00
Essentials images: $5.00
This is just an example. The actual prices per file will vary depending on each subscription cost and the different mixes of files the customer chooses to download during a particular period.

The best way to take advantage of this change is to shoot the high‑quality video our customers need, plus consider working with us exclusively.

To support this change we're updating the iStock Rate Card, effective September 1.

Please visit the forum if you have additional questions.

New Sites - General / Pictorem Payment
« on: April 19, 2023, 15:20 »
Has anyone who is on Pictorem got a sale and received payment? I had a sale in January, requested payment, and the notice that it takes 24-48 hours pops up. Great. Three months later, no payment. And their FAQ says that if you dont claim the payment within 30 days they send it automatically. That didnt happen either.  I did email them and well see what they say, but was curious if anyone else had success getting paid.

Alamy.com / Alamy Mass Downloads - AGAIN?
« on: December 29, 2022, 08:57 »
I just checked my account and had 57 downloads overnight. Most for 2 to 10 cent royalties.  I did receive an email stating that I'd be paid "in full" for the last debacle where I opted out of all special sales.  This is either another "glitch" or they are giving me the whole amount as a follow up to the last ripoff.  The whole amount is, again, peanuts if this is indeed what the downloads are.

Otherwise, check your account. We may have another technical issue on our hands.

CanStockPhoto.com / Another exciting news email
« on: July 20, 2021, 15:16 »
From CANSTOCK

We have some exciting updates we wanted to let you know about.

Exclusive License Purchases

Weve launched the ability for you to sell exclusive rights to your content, with the ability to set prices in advance or allow customers to inquire about a price. The entire process takes place directly through our site, with us collecting the payment up-front in escrow and crediting your account once the agreement is signed.

The next time you log in, youll be asked if youd like to offer exclusive license purchases. Click yes and all your images will have the ability for customers to request a price to purchase the exclusive rights from you. Optionally, you can also pre-set the selling price for the exclusive rights for each of your images.

Hire an Expert

A common question we get from customers is how they can hire an artist for custom work or for altering existing images. There is a considerable demand for hiring artists for custom work, and until now we didnt have a good way to facilitate these requests. That all changes today!

Were now launching a new interface that allows you to work directly with customers to provide alterations to your existing content, and create new custom content on request. The entire process takes place directly through the site, with us collecting the payment up-front from the customer and holding it in escrow until the work is completed. You control what you charge, what services you provide, and have the ability to opt-out or decline requests.

The next time you log in, youll be asked if youd like to offer alteration requests. Click yes and all your images will give customers the ability to request a quote for custom alterations.  Youll also be invited to create packaged services that you provide (e.g. business cards, custom characters, product photos, etc.), which will be specially featured for customers looking for those types of services.

Notifications by Text/SMS

For both exclusive license requests and custom work requests, youll want to be notified as soon as a customer contacts you. To help enable this, you can now get text/SMS notifications as soon as you receive a message. To add your number, go to My Account -> Contributor Preferences.

Video Purchase Options

Over the coming months we will be launching additional options for customers to purchase footage files. By offering more options for videos to be purchased, we expect to increase video sales volume and ultimately increase commissions paid to videographers. To facilitate this, as of August 1st we will be switching from the existing rigid fixed dollar commission to a percentage of what the customer paid. This will allow us to test different pricing options to maximize your earnings. See below for details.

Payout Schedule Changes

For exclusive licenses and custom work, the commission is unchanged from our present Custom Licenses (e.g. exclusive rights, logos, etc.) category of 50%. But for clarity, the commission category will be renamed to Exclusive Licenses, Custom Licenses, and Custom Work. Also, we are removing the previous upsampled TIFF download size and replacing it with an equivalent dimension XXL JPG.

Shutterstock.com / Help deleting content from Shutterstock
« on: July 07, 2020, 12:14 »
I have decided to delete my content on Shutterstock, not just disable it. Someone wrote a script that can do it for me. One by one would take forever.  Can anyone share what that script is and how to use it please?

Shutterstock.com / Don't forget Bigstock
« on: June 15, 2020, 17:21 »
I am part of the Shutterstock-Bigstock bridge and I would not put it past SS to leverage BigStock photos to sell to customers when they can't find certain content on Shutterstock. For some of us, our content that was on SS is still available on Bigstock.  I just requested my whopping $48 and will be closing my Bigstock account next.  I simply would not put it past SS to pull in images from that collection to supplement the missing content from SS's collection.

Just a heads up on the potential.

Im wondering if there is more to this whole Shutterstock debacle, such as if they might be positioning themselves for better valuation to be sold or merged. I have been involved in two mergers in my career and our main goal was to make the financials look good for a minimum of the past three years and Id say five years for larger companies. That sets the valuation to maximize selling price.

I only bring this up because I this smells like something much bigger than just instant gratification.

Video Equipment / Sofware / Technique / Need some Lightroom Help
« on: November 19, 2019, 21:14 »
For whatever reason when Lightroom last updated, it now drastically changes my Nikon raw files when they Import. I have never had this problem before. I would import my raw NEF file and the preview would look exactly like the view in my camera.  Now when I import the images are 2-3 stops too dark and I cannot figure out how to set lightroom to view the images as shot.  There has to be a way or LR becomes useless for time lapse.  I have 10,000 images from about 15 time lapses and use LRT time-lapse together with LR. LRT views the images properly.

Does anyone else have this issue and how can I get back the profile that fits my camera? Using Nikon D810 and D850's.  I check marked in preferences to use the profile based on my camera's serial number but that didn't do squat.

Right now LR is unusable.

Appreciate any help you can provide.

I upgraded to Mac Catalina which is 64 bit.  Quicktime pro no longer supported.  Any suggestions on other video apps? I do all of my editing in Final Cut Pro but I do some resizing in QT. Need a decent player with some editing capabilities.  I cannot even get the QT basic to open after the upgrade.  Beware. All of my office applications are no longer compatible.  Had to buy 64 bit versions.

Anyway, looking forward to any player suggestions that have some editing capabilities similar to QT Pro.

123RF / Is this why our ranks were lowered?
« on: March 21, 2018, 19:38 »
I got this via email.  It looks very suspicious as to why 123 lowered our ranks....to ensure we did not fall into the upper size bucket. I say this because it would be much harder to earn a higher ranking now. Win for 123, lose for contributors.

Shutterstock.com / USA Tax forms
« on: February 05, 2018, 09:22 »
Just an Fyi that if you are in the USA and you contribute to both SS and Bigstock, your 1099 will be only one form downloaded from SS.  It will have two incomes on the form but you do not download a separate form on BigStock.

123RF / 123 now my lowest earner
« on: January 20, 2018, 16:42 »
For the first time in 11 years I did not make payout at 123.  I am set at $50 if that tells you anything. I have about 4500 assets there, with a mix of images and video.  I was looking at my PayPal account and wondering why my 123 payment was late. Then it dawned on me that I might not have hit $50.  Turns out I hit $36 last month and am at $27 for Jan so far.  I think I read on here that they are having SEO challenges.  Their performance is on par with Canstock, which is currently my lowest earning site.

18
Was wondering if any other are having the same issue.  When I pull an image into Photoshop (any version including a standalone - CC & CS6) then run NIK Color EFeX Pro 4 (any filter) it starts to do its thing then inadvertently shuts down Photoshop.  I tried reloading Nik and that didn't work either.

It worked with Define, but not Color Efex.  Anyone else having the same issue?

Envato / Revenue Share being Cut Already
« on: October 19, 2017, 08:06 »
"Today were announcing a change to how we calculate net revenue45 (and thereby author earnings) for Elements. Starting January 1, 2018, we will deduct the cost of Tuts+ course creation from Elements gross revenue, before calculating the earnings split with authors.

How did we get here?

Creating a subscription service has a lot of moving parts. One of the most important parts is making sure that whatever is included creates the kind of value that keeps subscribers renewing month after month.

For most of this year Envato has been steadily adding new content into Elements. Weve rolled in our Tuts+ courses subscription valued at $19/mo (including the complete catalogue from A Book Apart ($192 value)), added 250,000 amazing photos and given subscribers access to the invoicing app AND CO.

All of these have been added to Elements to further increase the value of the subscription and provide more reasons for subscribers to stick around longer (who wants to lose access to authors content and all these extras?!).

To date, the cost of Tuts+ course creation (including A Book Apart) has been taken on exclusively by Envato, even though the rewards are shared equally with authors. While this may seem like a great win for authors, its not sustainable long term for Envato or Elements.

So, from January 1, 2018, we will deduct the cost of creating Tuts+ course content from gross revenue in addition to whats already deducted; transactional taxes (such as VAT, GST, sales tax), refunds, chargebacks, affiliate fees, and payment processing fees and then split the remaining amount (net revenue45) between authors and Envato using the subscriber share method16.

This will ensure that well be able to sustain content like this in the future, continue to build the platform and grow the total number of subscribers coming back to Elements month after month.

Whats next?

As we move closer to January 1, 2018, we will update our Elements Author Terms, help centre articles and adjust our earnings calculator to prepare for this change. There is no action required from authors.

We know there will likely be questions around this change and well be around to answer any questions youve got about it. Well answer in batches for the first week and then anything that hasnt been answered on an as-needed basis for the next few weeks."

Hi everyone,

I will be doing some remote shooting later this year for 7 days without my laptop and very limited power.  I will be shooting 3-5 thousand RAW Nikon D810 images per day (time lapse) and am looking for a portable, self powered CF card back up device.

I have found a few, some pretty pricy and others more reasonable.  Aside from Flash Porter (a Kickstarter project) and Nexto I have been reading about this one: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1191268-REG/sanho_shdcsudma32tb_2tb_colorspace_udma_3.html

There is also this one: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1277930-REG/nexto_di_nesv_nvs28012th_nvs2801_video_storage_doc.html

I had a question about FAT 32 only back up.  Since I have a 32 GIG max partition how would a device like this manage a data dump of 128 gigs from my card? Odds are I will fill up or closely fill up a card each shoot, especially my holy grail shooting.

If anyone can educate me on the limitations of a FAT 32 system I would appreciate it. Also, if you have any other ideas for LARGE file back-up in remote areas that would also be welcome. I've done quite a bit of searching and the IPAD/Android route that is discussed just isn't the right way for the amount of stills and video I will be shooting.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Alamy.com / Keywords crunching
« on: January 23, 2017, 20:03 »
Has anyone noticed that the keywords on the Alamy site show up with the space missing? I have not seen this before. Can anyone tell me if I can leave them as is and be assured that they will work or do I need to go put back in the space between each key word? Right now it's one long jumbled word with commas separating each word.  I have 140 images I uploaded and do not want to go re-edit a boat load of keywords.

PhotoDune / Anyone unworthy of Photodune yet?
« on: December 24, 2016, 10:31 »
Just curious if anyone has been told their portfolio doesn't cut it at Envanto and had their accounts closed. I only make about $30 a month there and expect that email, but haven't received it yet. Just wondering if the culling has started yet.

Wondering if anyone in here might be very familiar on the technical side of the RAMPER PRO 3 from Elysia Visuals.  I have read the manual but it is not very well written.

So here are my immediate questions if anyone can answer them.

1. I have a Nikon D810.  Is there any specific settings (other than f stop) that I need to set in order for the RP to work? I have the D810 set at F4 at 800th of a second on the camera.  Will the Rapper Pro (RP) automatically override the 800th shutter speed? If not, how should I set the camera in prep for shooting? I have it set to manual focus, and the camera set on manual with a fixed 4500K WB.

2. I cannot see any preview during a sequence, either on my D810 or on the RP.  When I tap the histogram icon it tells me that the feature is not enabled during shooting.  How do I preview images, either on the RP or my camera body to ensure they are correctly exposed?

3. I want to use the "read jpg feature" so it will analyze histogram data.  However, during the daytime I want to shoot intervals shorter than 10 seconds (2-3 seconds) to capture motion more smoothly.  Since the histogram reading feature requires around 5-10 seconds to feed the RP with JPG data and read it, what happens when I have the histogram feature enabled but my intervals are shorter than the unit can read? This is important to know so I don't ruin a long shoot.

4. For a night to day shoot of the Milky Way, I am unclear how the system exposes the dim stars. I set my camera to 1.4f and a start ISO of 3200 with a 30 second interval.  Does the RP auto expose the ISO/shutter speed to the dark space enough to properly expose a bell curve histogram?

5. When I set my max ISO to something high, like 3200 or higher, will RP determine whether it even needs to go that high? Meaning could it never reach 2300?

6. If I have my interval set too low, say 10 seconds, but the unit needs 15 or 20 seconds to expose the image and another 10 seconds to fill my interval, will RP automatically adjust accordingly and prevent my 10 second interval from triggering another shoot cycle until the exposure is completed? Generally, I would set my interval to account for both the interval and the shutter speed, and I cannot find anything in the manual that instructs me on what to do.

These questions are ones in which I could not find answers on line or in the manual.  Appreciate as much detail as you can provide.  I have a very short learning curve as I am taking this out of the country to shoot arctic time lapses in a month.

123RF / RF123 Earnings page down for you too?

On the 123rf page when I click on earnings, it is a 404 error. Been that way for three days. The new dashboard works but isn't real time reporting. Anyone else able to get in the old earnings reporting?
