Canva / More ''Good news'' from Canva :-/

This is really scary... good thing I do not offer photos yet on this site. They give me very good sales with vectors but...:

Important Update to the Canva Contributor Agreement

Dear contributor,

Were making some changes to the Canva Contributor Agreement, to reflect the new image subscription product that we'll be launching soon.

For contributors, this new product offers the following benefits:
A second revenue stream, in addition to regular sales made within Canva
Access to a massive customer base
Potential for more revenue per customer thanks to the recurring subscription model
While users will be able to use all the images they like just like a Spotify or Netflix subscription (and at a similar price point), we will be actively monitoring and blocking any abuse of the service. Please note that at this stage the subscription will only include photos (not vectors).

Feel free to contact us with any further questions: [email protected].

Cheers,

The Canva Content Team

Basically they seem to become a ''Free site'' wtih a 10$ paid subscription... I wonder what the contributors will get out of that...

Shutterstock.com / Shutterstock earnings March 16th 2019
« on: March 16, 2019, 10:16 »
Hi!

Quick question, anyone else has next to no sales today on Shutterstock?

Just wondering why this morning I only have 1 sale there when normally when I wake up I already have at least 30-40. And it's staying at 1 sale. Just wondering if it's a first of if it's a bug in the update of the earnings?

Thanks!

I just noticed that Vectorstock changed, they now offer a responsive website and show VERY LARGE images at 1500 x 1500 with a screenshot on my 4k screen. Also the image preview offer NO WATERMARK: see this image for example (not mine): https://www.vectorstock.com/royalty-free-vector/super-hero-bubble-tea-character-cartoon-vector-21279714 or preview: https://cdn5.vectorstock.com/i/1000x1000/97/14/super-hero-bubble-tea-character-cartoon-vector-21279714.jpg. First off for web anyone can steal this as 1500x1500 or 1000x1000 at high quality is more than sufficient. Secondly anyone with illustrator can convert it to vector in 3 clicks... Why would agencies do that? Am I the only one who thinks this is abusive?

I am seriously considering removing my portfolio from there.

Hi!
[I EDITED THIS THREAD TO KEEP THE MATTER CONFIDENTIAL AS PER THE FRIENDLY SETTLEMENT I RECEIVED]

I stumbled on something major in regards to one of my Illustration. I have an illustration on sale on Shutterstock and a few other sites. Each licenses clearly states that the illustration cannot be used in a logo or to promote a trademark or service.

My illustration is now being used by a government and use in all medias (Video, prints, gifts).

I am in the process of talking with a lawyer but the asking price for this for me is confusing. They are very rich countries, but I want a fair price while considering that they did not ask or paid me anything and considering the HUGE media coverage of the image and considering they are a government and should know better.

What would you do and how much would you ask?

I'm sorry for now I cannot disclose all the images and proof before an action is taken or before I give them the chance to answer to the claim.

Shutterstock.com / Shutterstock Vector upload Issues
« on: October 13, 2015, 10:52 »
Hi!

I'm trying to reach out to find a solution to a painful upload process. Since a few years back, when I upload vectors to Shutterstock many things happens:

1- A lot of vectors / JPG gets processed independently.
2- Out of 1000 vectors submit, almost 100 never reach the submit site. Have to locate them and upload again.
3- Some vectors lose the IPTC data.

Is there anyone here who can upload 200+ vectors to Shutterstock in one batch and then getting 200 images ready to get submitted? Before I could have very large batches uploaded with no issue. Now we need to keep track of each images submitted and located the missing ones.

If you are uploading without issues, can you tell me which Software you use for FTP and the steps you take? Shutterstock said to try only uploading 20 vectors at a time, but even then, some vectors will get processed independently from the JPG (so we get 2 files instead of 1) and some won't get processed at all to the submit area.

Thanks for your feedbacks :)

Selling Stock Direct / PixHunter... ...
« on: May 29, 2014, 10:09 »
Have anyone been contacted to sell your images directly by PixHunter.com?

I just got an email asking me if I would sell a specific image directly. I checked his website and he seems to want to:
Google traduction:
Image budget savings with the
PIXHUNTER.com price comparison
for all RF & RM motives. Send
us your required RF or
RM images and your best
Offer, and we'll search
the agencies for the best
Actions and try this
to undercut.

I find this kind of work kind of funny. We'll let you know if they offer any decent price. If we get 20-30% of sales we could save and make them save by saying directly... or not :)

I have been contacted in order to sell one of my image to be used as Key Visual on a logo for a mineral water brand. The product will be exclusively sold in southern Germany.

The agency who wants to license my image wants know the price for the Exclusive rights of the image in the category *Non-alcoolic beverage* in the limited region of Southern Germany.

The image in question is : http://www.shutterstock.com/pic-75845188/stock-vector-roman-centurion-brush-helmet-or-galea-vintage-illustration-old-engraved-illustration-of-a-soldier.html?src=DJXVsZwYDQrjxGOHsq2ECg-1-0

They are aware the image was previously sold microstock and that it originates from a late 1800s book (PD).

Is there anyone qualified to give an accurate price for such a transaction? I do not mind paying a % commission for some professional help to close this transaction as I am not used to individually sell license myself :).

Thanks for the help!

General Stock Discussion / Good laugh - CRAP
« on: April 02, 2013, 10:26 »
I was browsing around to see if I wasn't missing any good agencies to submit my portfolio to (we have a list here in Microstock but was looking for personnal experience on any agencies I wasn't submitting to).

I stumbled upon this thread:
http://www.aphotoeditor.com/2008/02/27/stock-photo-agencies/

See at the bottom of the list, we (most of us) are in the category called CRAP. Such a high view of our talents! :)

This morning I received an email from Depositphotos. I had around 1k vectors from my portfolio that were in the Unfinished section for a while as I didn't have time to choose categories for them.

This is a first for me, having an agency offering an helping hand, anyone else had similar situation or I was just the lucky pick of the day?

I was wondering if anyone knew about a service, software or online service that would help you find an image on a a stock website based on a JPG of the file?

If not, would you think it useful?

Right now I have a wedding project in HD. 5-6 years ago I created a DVD Menu template using stock images to build the design. I now have a specific image which I only have as a layer in my PSD. I have no clue where to find that image again. Writing wedding in stock websites ends me up with unlimited search. I tried narrowing down all the result but can't seem to find the right image.

A service like this (image recognition) in my opinion would be great, would save a lot of time spent looking for something.

Here is the image I am looking for, if anyone saw it anywhere, please PM me the link :).

IMAGE (i added watermark to protect the copyrights of the image):

I feel like I am posting a WANTED or LOST poster :)

REWARD will go to the creator of the image in the form of Royalties  ::)

Adobe Stock / Fotolia: Something positive... for Videos!
« on: November 28, 2012, 20:50 »
Fotolia actually did something positive, a first since LONG. They have added the functions to Include or Exclude all our Video portfolio from the subscription program.

The main reason for most video stock artists NOT to submit to Fotolia was they way too cheap return on video Subscription sale. Seems for once they have acted from what contributors required. Sure hope it is one of many change for improvement for that site.

Pond5 / POND5: Frozen reviews - Update for those interested
« on: November 17, 2012, 15:37 »
I am sure I must not be the only one in this situation. 3 weeks ago I contacted Pond5 to have an update since I had 130 videos pending for review and has been pending for a week.

They replied to me with a generic message telling that Hurricane Sandy and launch of the photo section made review time longer, which is understandable. They say they usually review in 7-10 days time.

Two weeks later (4 weeks after submitting), I contacted them again, and I received a Copy and Paste of the same generic message, word for word. I replied asking them to give me a more detailed answers.

I thought to post the information here and some might be wondering when their videos or photos will get reviewed... If you ask me not anytime soon, don't know how many they usually review per day, but their desks are full:

Hi Patrick,

We've had a significant amount of uploads recently.  With videos alone, there are nearly 15,000 clips awaiting approval (photo submissions are currently at 59,000) .  But I can assure you our Curators are going through everything as quickly and carefully as they can.  Our system is fair and sorts all uploads by order of when artists hit the submit to Curator button for approval, as if you are waiting in line.  If your footages are editorial, we can quickly make the exception to approve time-sensitive material.
To take care of you, we have forwarded your email to our Curatorial team.  Unfortunately, we cannot officially give you a date of when your work will be looked at.  Thank you for being patient. Your clips will be approved shortly.

Cheers,

Belle
Customer Service, Pond5

I liked the last sentence (liked as in funny): Your clips will be approved shortly.

I went to see a show on ecological house building a few days back. Overall it was pretty nice with lots of good ideas, but I found one company who sold lots to build on... and he advertised his company on a vertical stand banner... With all blurry images took on Google and some with the Watermark CLEARLY evident on them... without any shame...

Sorry for the poor picture I was walking with a baby in one arm and camera on my neck:
Image here:
http://www.morphartcreation.com/shutterCopyright.JPG

He had a few of those, some with Dreamstime, 123rf or Shutterstock watermark.

I don't even understand why the print company even allowed this to be printed. I email him about this, and mentionned it to Shutterstock, but still it's impressive to see how people are either uninformed about copyrights or they just don't care thinking it's only for their small local business, but hell what is a few 10$ for a business longterm advertising. What a shame!

Shutterstock.com / ShutterStock New Feature - Followers
« on: October 04, 2012, 16:12 »
I just noticed a new change on the contributor dashboard of Shutterstock

When you go to check your balance (mouse over the monthly income) you will notice a new ''Follower: (x)''.

Fun to see that some buyers has ''bookmarked you'', got a low 8 followers, not enough to start a sect! :)

General - Stock Video / Pond5 teams up with Adobe !!
« on: September 11, 2012, 11:52 »
I was pretty excited to read this. Not really sure if there will be a real impact and if the users will install and use this plugin to buy stock video, but definetly sounds a good initiative:

If you haven't received the news already, Pond5 and Adobe teamed up to launch a one-of-a-kind plugin that seamlessly integrates our video and audio collection into Premiere Pro CS6. We're thrilled to be showing it off at the IBC Conference this year, and we couldn't do it without our incredible artist community.

Shutterstock.com / Shutterstock 120$ comission...! wow!
« on: June 20, 2012, 22:14 »
What a surprise today, 3x sales of 3 illustrations (nothing special about them) for a 120$ commission each... on Shutterstock... That beats my 90$ record of last time.

I find these new licenses more and more interesting, they keep growing up. What a surprise to see a weeks worth of income come in one day!

Anyone else got those high commissions?

17
I got quite a surprise this morning when checking my Shutterstock stats...

ONE single sale image for a commission of 90.60$. I am really wondering what these licenses are, but seeing high numbers like this from Shutterstock is definetly extremely encouraging!!! :)

General Stock Discussion / Noticeable slow April - Minus 30%
« on: April 23, 2012, 11:28 »
Was just wondering if April was usually a ''slow'' month, like december?

It may catch up before the end of the month, but right now I am facing hard fact that if this conitnues like the previous 3 weeks, I am down 33% in income this month, which is a huge loss compared to a constant gain for over the last 14 months.

Was just wondering if anyone else was experiencing a general slowdown?

I hope it should catch up on the following month,

Thanks!

Shutterstock.com / Shutterstock stats still weird...?
« on: April 23, 2012, 11:11 »
Hi!

Anyone else experiencing issues with Shutterstock stats?

If I check total of sale for the day, it shows me 70 sales, and only 1 Enhanced download. 66.57$ sales.

If I click on the day, and check, it shows me 72 sales, and 2 Enhanced download... If I count manually, I get 95.71$ sales.

Is this just a delay in the update of the sales? The value at the top also shows me the ''lower'' results?

Just found this funny today,

I went to the whole process with Agefotostock to get my portfolio on their RF site, took a while and they explained me...:

In your case, we have taken more time in editing your material because we noticed that you are a "microstock" photographer. Consequently, your images cant be uploaded as Royalty Free (RF) and we have moved them to our Low Budget Royalty Free (LBRF) offer named "easyFotostock".

Just found it funny... and I guess it really represents most of what we sell... LBRF, I'll use that one in the future :) (Don't ask me the difference between RF and LBRF, except the price there must be something in their license but... still funny :) )

Adobe Stock / Fotolia Composition image... No watermark...!?
« on: December 19, 2011, 10:04 »
Hi!

While working today, I wanted to try out a composition image from Fotolia for one of my print design. Instead of doing a screen grab or right click, I used the <<Download a Comp image>> link.

To my surprise, Fotolia gives you the image without any watermark, which for web use is as easy as giving the image for free. A 512 x 481 image, good for a hell of a lot of uses on the web, usually used smaller than that so the image gains quality...

I don't know what you think, but to me at least they should make stealing the image a bit harder by keeping the watermark on like every other stock site?.

Not sure that I like seeing a 500x400 image free to use out there (yes you can say that they did not buy it thus cannot use it since they don't have the license but... Prove it if you can't find any alteration on the image due to cloning out the watermark..!)

Example: http://www.fotolia.com/Content/Comp/35425834

Your thoughts?

General Stock Discussion / December.... worst month for Microstck?
« on: December 11, 2011, 11:21 »
Hi!

Was just wondering, I heard a lot of <<December is the worst month for microstock income>>.

Wanted your opinion to see if this was your reality or not?

I do not remember feeling it for the last 2 year but this year it seems pretty slow this last week?

Thanks for the output!: )

Searching an image for a client, I just noticed something I find peculiar.

Corbis images are marketing images sent by the photographer they represent on OTHER websites... such as Fotolia?
http://www.corbisimages.com/stock-photo/royalty-free/42-18083490/nurse-listening-to-patients-heartbeat]
http://www.corbisimages.com/stock-photo/royalty-free/42-18083490/nurse-listening-to-patients-heartbeat

Username Corbis:
http://www.fotolia.com/id/12864433
http://www.visualphotos.com/image/2x3380056/nurse_listening_to_patients_heartbeat

Maybe nothing out of the ordinary, but to me I found it funny to see a Stock company selling off image to other ''competitor's'' Microstock busines... unless Corbis owns Fotolia and I do not know it?

Alamy.com / First payout... :)
« on: October 30, 2011, 13:01 »
I am eager to get my first payout...
Balance brought forward:    $249.81

Made a 5$ sales this month but still has to clear. Sucks to wait 3 months or so to  have 19 cents to clear for payout, call me lucky! :)

Hi!

I have been working for a few months here and there and developed a whole process to make my life easier to process my Illustrations for all the different sites I am uploading too. I hired some scripting professionals to help me out also on some points.

I was wondering if anyone would be interested to buy say for a lower than 5$ price the full walk-through and the scripts and how to easily personalize them to do the following:

1- Batch open ALL EPS files found in a folder into Photoshop, at a given size. Opening them in Photoshop as the advantage of keeping all the IPTC data intact.
2- (Simple) Action to add a white border around each Illustrations automatically, and save the EPS as a JPG in a folder of you choosing.
3- Use a free software to auto-rename the files to remove the '' copy'' added to the file.
4- Have a script and free software automatically ZIP all files with the same filename (ex: image1.eps and image1.jpg) into individual ZIP so they are ready to be uploaded to Fotolio or other agencies that requires the JPG and EPS to be processed.

I can also add explanation on how to use Image processor in Photoshop to batch resize a list of JPG to a specific size of thumbnails (say for vectorstock they require 380 x 400 thumbnails). I have a method to do this automatically for any numbers of files.

Before spending hours writing down some clear explanations and simple step by step process I would like to know if this would interest anyone in the Stock Illustration business, or if you already had all those techniques or do not find any use to it?

Thanks for the input :p
