Off Topic / Link Exchanges (Past and New)
« on: February 19, 2012, 16:33 »
Hi All,

I've been updating my photography website and in the process lost the page with links to other stock photogs (we did a link exchange a year or two back... heehee). So, if you have a link on your site to Chasing Moments photography (chasingmoments dot com; link in  the signature  as well) please pm me with your info as I"ll be putting the page back up in the next day or two and I'd hate to not link back to you in return.

Also, if any of you are looking to do some link exchanging - message me.

Cheers,

Olga

Computer Hardware / New desktop - HELP
« on: May 17, 2011, 10:07 »
Hi All,

So, it's time for me to get a new desktop, the one I'm working on right now is getting a bit too slow ... and it's almost four years old too!

Right now I've got 4gb ram and 2.10ghz processor...PC person. I'm using CS2 + plugins/actions; I do have CS5  but I have not been able to use it because the computer stalls too much with it. Ideally, I'd move to CS5 and improve speed.

I'm quite overwhelmed by all the options out there and basically am wondering about "minimum" ram/speed (haha, as well as monitor suggestions!!!) I'd need...

I'd love any help/suggestions! Pretty please! Thanks!

I know it's too broad of a questions, but even knowing what other people'r using would give me some baseline..

General Stock Discussion / Hemistock? Whose affiliate?
« on: March 18, 2011, 17:46 »
Just came across a bunch of my images being sold on this "hemistock" site. Anyone know who it's affiliated with? I only found an online article saying that it's Nigeria's first stock agency.... Gee, hope they are affiliated!

Adobe Stock / Deleting free files on fotolia
« on: December 30, 2010, 15:50 »
So, I have a several files that I (oh so foolishly) donated to FT free section earlier this year.

Is there any precedent of having these files deleted from the account? I'd be happy to reimburse FT the 0.5 and possibly close the account if necessary.

Thanks!

Olga

New Sites - General / Magnetqueen - anyone heard of it? Legit?
« on: September 03, 2009, 16:33 »
Just found some of my images (and saw a lot of others I recognize from stock) on this site, available for sale/download. Is it an affiliate of one of established sites? Or what is it ? Anyone heard of it?

It might be legit, don't know - I just never heard of it, and couldn't find any info about any of its partners.

http://magnetqueen.assetsdelivery.com/main/index.php

A lot of familiar images on there! Legit or not?

Hi All,

I am trying to figure out if there are any specific guidelines about photography in places of public transportation. Basically, I am trying to set up a brief shoot involving one model (oh, 20-30min), handheld camera w/flash in an outdoor subway station in the DC area and/or airport.

Can I do it or are there special permits etc that are probably required? Has anybody done a similar project and care to share your experience? I did some internet searching but haven't come up with any specifics.

Thanks for input!

General Stock Discussion / Useful article on microstock
« on: June 24, 2009, 12:04 »
Here: http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/06/24/microstock-photography-is-getting-big-istockphoto-projects-200-million-in-revenues/

Interestingly, IS and FT are viewed as "competitors" and other agencies are not mentioned.

Dreamstime.com / Anyone exclusive on DT?
« on: May 29, 2009, 08:01 »
Anyone exclusive on DT? Care to share your experiences going/being exclusive on DT? I might consider doing it at some point down the road, thought I'd see how it's working out for others.

General Stock Discussion / Shipping from Adorama
« on: May 18, 2009, 19:51 »
Well, first time buyer from adorama. Loved that it works with paypal, competitive prices, easy search & ordering, backordered items shipped within 10 days. BUT, and this is the one thing that came out of nowhere and is really offputting to me at this point. Of course, I'll call them tomorrow, but chances are that I am also a last time buyer from adorama. Duh.

Story is: like many of us, I can't sit at home and wait 9-5 or even 10-2 to wait for the order to arrive. I work, my husband works, many of us have full-time jobs, yes. USUALLY, I just call usps or ups or whatever shipping company and tell them that I"ll pick the order from the facility after 5. But not with Adorama. With them, you HAVE to be at home to sign for the package, and you cannot pick it up from the facility. You know what, in my book, that's just terrible. So, now, I know that I will not be at home for the re-deliveries, and I know that the order will be shipped back... and I am pissed. And what's worse is that nowhere on the checkout page is there an explanation of this. I had to go to FAQ about shipping to verify that this is indeed their policy. Will call them tomorrow, but I don't think there's anything that can be done. Bummer. Lesson learned. Could've ordered from amazon for a few bucks more, gotten it faster (no backorder), and no hassle picking up from the facility after work.

Sorry, just a bit of ranting (with a bit of warning to potential adorama customers). Feel better now.... a little.

Yup, as of this morning - not there any more. (no record of sale, no record of refund, nada) Were these fotosearch sales of 20-25 bucks just a trick to get photogs to start uploading again? And then they just take it off your account? :))) Anybody else experiencing anything similar? I sent a message to CS, will see what they say.

I started uploading to CS bit by bit after this sale. Well, now... bummer, CS.

A bunch of images rejected at 123rf for "no or incomplete property release". Never had one with either the Capitol or SC rejected for THAT! Everywhere else accepted.

123rf needs a release... huh?

Anybody? If this is true, then there are endless images across all stock sites, including 123rf, that need to be removed, if not - well...no comment there.

All of a sudden, this morning. Keeps bouncing me back to the "please enter your login name/password" page...

Can login from firefox.

Can login to all other sites...

Anybody? Help? What's the trick here? I saw somebody had a similar problem not too long ago but can't find the post.

iStockPhoto.com / IS Illustrator Test
« on: June 30, 2008, 16:42 »
Ok, just failed my "second" attempt to pass the IS illustrator exam. All rejections - "not what we are currently looking for".  Could somebody who recently passed the IS illustrator test share their experience and, if it's not too much to ask, show the images that passed review.

Fyi, I did browse through what's been getting accepted by way of illustrations, and I've read their "what IS needs" section. I will upload a new set of three in a week, but I"m sorta hoping to know that I am working in the right direction...

Thanks :)

For those of you who are submitting both to micros and macros.... how do you decide? Do you keep your "best" shots for macros? Or the other way around ("best" shots, if they get picked up in micros can make a lot of $ monthly at micros)?

How about splitting a series? Same subject, different angles/zoom/etc? Same subject but some are clearly better than others? Or do you base decisions based on substance?

Where am I coming from with this? Just spent half a day at Niagara falls today... can't make up my mind about where to upload the images now ;)

 Arghh :) any tips appreciated!

CanStockPhoto.com / Any thoughts...?
« on: May 22, 2008, 15:49 »
Hi all, any thoughts on CanStockPhoto? What's up? How are things there?

I"m just about to pull the plug on CanStockPhoto... the most maddening rejections and the least sales.

Hehe... anybody wanna tell me "it's not you, it's them" :) ?

Anybody have any success?

I've been doing ok uploading photos, even though I don't have patience to upload more than one or two at  a time and going through their upload process is an awful pain... :) Anyways...

NOT ONCE had an illustration accepted. I don't usually do vectors, but I do illustrations (which are not fractals or backgrounds) - and they are always accepted and great sellers on all other sites... and on IS I always get the "not suitable for stock". Really frustrating, especially given that whenever I browse through IS's collections some of its non-vector illustrations are even more awful than its upload process.... really frustrating. They are complex works, and I spend hours and hours developing master files, and then IS is just really horrible. I mean.. I am thinking of emailing reviewers with my files and links to some other IS illsutrations asking for an explanation about how come THOSE things are suitable.... arrrrghggg :))

Are there any IS reps lurking around here? ... hellooooo... !

Hehe, and now since I'm on this whining rampage -  did you see the quality of some explusive uploads? Tilted horizons, horrible composition, all sorts of exposure problems, anything else imaginable...of course not all, but the % of horrible quality images is quite high, in my opinion, just by scrolling through exclusive uploads there. Really disappointing.

Let's just say...well, I guess you all can quite well imagine what I else I might have to say :)

Ok, I'm better now, thanks a bunch for listening ! phew :)))

Adobe Stock / ID requested?
« on: February 21, 2008, 23:30 »
Guess i haven't requested a payout from fotolia in a while... when i go to their convert credits page it tells me to upload my id? And before i transferred funds without any of this. What did I miss? Is it a new policy?

Shutterstock.com / Can't view my PENDING files AND...
« on: February 09, 2008, 23:06 »
Deleted cookies, history, restarted my computer, everything works but I can't view my pending files, really annoying as I can't delete the file that I do not want to upload and I cannot check what's pending and what I still need to upload.... anybody else having this problem?

What happens is that I click and the page tries to load and I never get anything, not even an error or any other kind of message, just blank screen and the loader on top of the page going round'n'round.... arrrrghhh!

AND... just found out that I can't' get to the "Submit" (via html) page if I go through my submit.shutterstock.com page....FIRST, I have to click on forum, and from there - if i click on "submit" - i get where I want to get...

Crestock.com / Understanding composition
« on: February 02, 2008, 12:44 »
Any tips for crestock submissions? :)))

I understand crestock prides itself on warning contributors of its stringent standards, but the "composition" rejection is totally beyond me.

A serires of three images, all three of the same subject matter with different composition - rejected for composition. So, we'v got three incorrect compositions..... So, then, tell me - what would be "correct" composition in their opinion? Anybody here with insights on this "composition" thingie? I emailed support asking a more detailed explanation as ... well, I just started uploading to crestock, and given its low sales, low income %, the verdict is still out for me. In no way am I "threatening" as all I am for stock industry is this tiny fish in a gigantic ocean, but for my own sake I am trying to "understand" this because it has implications for when, whether, how fast, and what I will be sending over to crestock. I will never complain about rejections based on technical aspects... but things like "composition" are more of a gray area....

If you are really curious - all three are on DT, most recent acceptances, frozen Niagara Falls...

Mostphotos.com / Future Scenario?
« on: January 24, 2008, 01:28 »
Hmmm... it just sorta hit me. How would MP survive the scenario in which people will start abusing its "free portfolio space no review system" for uploading and keeping their images their for free - personal gallery sort of thing, vacations, grandma's birthday, out of focus pictures of your gerbil, you get hte picture?  I am sure this kind of abuse is bound to happen... are there any mechanisms in place to prevent and to contain it?

- Monitoring against this? Well, then you need reviewers and criteria for evaluating one's work as 'playing the system' (uploading hundreds of shots of your family dinner...) v. not

- Letting it be... which would sink the ship very fast because buyers won't sort through all the bad work

- Relying on the review system which many people are already disliking and that still won't prevent the "pollution" of the pool of images on MS...

Your thoughs boys and girls?

123RF / Help...?
« on: December 10, 2007, 10:32 »
All right, so this time I went the "java uploader " route, uploaded about 65 images (remember? last time i did the ftp over 50 images did not go through) to test the waters... now i'm logging into 123rf and I can't figure out where they are.... how do I process them???

Arrrrghhhh.... so sad, so really sad.... I mean... come on!

123RF / FTP at 123rf?
« on: December 05, 2007, 10:44 »
A little frustrated at 123rf... I almost never upload to them due to low sales, but sometimes when I am away from my computer, I let it work - I run filezilla to upload a batch or two. Well, the frustration is due to the fact that I can't figure out if there's a problem with their ftp uploads or not... Almost all of my images of a batch of 50 or so got rejected, with no explanation - and no image icon showing up as well... no email notification nothing...

First, you have to click two hundred times to navigate to "process" my ftp'd images... and then, when I was doublechecking the uploaded images, many of them (in case of this batch) did not show an image icon... well, i just assumed that they'r processing the image part of it and went on to check for keywords and to save everything for review... and now it looks like there was an ftp issue because I don't believe that all of those forty or so rejected images are rejected - again, they are already up on all other sites and selling....

Anybody, ftp issues? Is it just me? Is it worth the time and frustration?

Dreamstime.com / Submitting Fractals to DT
« on: November 15, 2007, 07:30 »
Yup, frustrated, and venting a little bit. But also want to understand if this is a new unannounced trend. I am getting really tired of these:

"This is a very well covered subject in our data base or the subject of your image is too specific. We are looking for images that exceed the technical quality and creativity of the images already online. Please take a few minutes to browse through the best selling images online (on this subject) and go deeper, play, have a more creative, more personal approach to it, also keeping in mind the technical quality of the image."

I submitted several fractals over the last few days that were not just a quick renders, but that were carefully selected and rendered overnight and then worked on in PS that were rejected for this reason. ALSO i submitted a couple of fractal designs of X-mas tree on two-three different backgrounds that give designers different choices of bg color and space. ALL rejected for this reason. And I am no longer satisfied with this standard boring (and to me, slightly offensive - "have a more creative approach, go deeper' - huh???) explanation. If DT is not taking fractal-based work any mroe they have to create a special announcement with clear explanation of what they are looking for. Some of these fractals are top sellers on other sites... and th eonly one that DT did accept become an isntant download. So, what the heck. Really frustrating...
