Canva / Re: Guess yall better leave Canva!

Danny at Canva where is the option to opt OUT : "(b) If you do not want Canva, its affiliates or its third party service providers to use your Stock Media to develop and improve artificial intelligence or machine learning models you can opt-out by filling out this form."

If "this form," is supposed to be a clickable hyperlink, it's not.

Wow. The free section is extensive. No point making any further investments in this business. I am disgusted with you (Adobe that is). Good bye from me.

Be careful - once you turn your port off your images no longer appear in catalogue manager. If there were some files you wanted to delete you won't be able to until you turn your portfolio back on. That can take quite a while. Turning ports off could end up becoming a trap for some.

Canva / Re: Canva announcement

Wouldn't be surprised if the plan is to phase out premium content and move to all subscriptions. As an early contributor to Canva, it is so sad to see the direction they have taken. I did take them up on their generous opt-out strategy. ::)

Wow Gabriela - 5 sales. That's terrific! I have sold one so far with a paid account. Love the royalty rate!

General Stock Discussion / Re: about Microstock Golden age

Unique or low-demand content just doesn't fit to the subscription model where you make up the low commission per sale by a higher number of sales.

SS has apparently decided to write off that portion of the microstock market and focus exclusively on high-volume images.

New agencies - that are paying reasonable returns, and not running crazy giveaways or shell games with shadowy 'partners' - will increasingly be getting the new, unusual and creative images.   Eventually, that will translate into a competetive advantage for those agencies.

Your second paragraph sums up my feelings quite well. I would love to see new innovative agencies gain ground in a market that is currently hostile toward content creators.

A whole bunch of nothing.
Good to know that Symbiostock is not as successful story as it looks on the first sight.

sorry to disappoint you but symbiostock IS a success..

I won't be giving away numbers but in the first 10 days of march I made more on symbiostock than the following agencies combined:

- depositphotos
- dreamstime
- envato
- fotolia
- bigstock
- canstock
- zazzle
- veer
- graphicleftovers
- stockfresh
- alamy
- yaymicro

yes! I pity you for your comment, and you deserve every bit of it.. :)

Wow! That's encouraging news! Congrats!!

Nothing happened after the last special deal other than a few of us pulling our ports. They must be feeling pretty confident by now and aren't concerned about backlash. So, today it's a mere 35 million images up for grabs - Wonder what gem of a promotion they are planning to roll out next!

Sean is on them, hunting their twitter feed for stocksy customers :)

Stocksy / Re: Stocksy - where are they?
« on: September 17, 2013, 19:16 »

For sheer income, in the short term, stay with IS if you are treated well or feel comfortable there. It was crushing my sole  ;)  so I made my choice early and I would guess in the medium term, let's say 3-9 months out, I should be earning more than I was as an exclusive. Best of all, it's not artist exclusive, so I can have additional revenue from SS or Symbio, etc. My battle for prioritizing time is always between local commercial, local clients, and stock. But within the stock category, hands down, and very easy decision, priority goes to Stocksy.

Your statement sums up my feelings perfectly: "It was crushing my sole  ;)."

Glad to hear Stocksy is progressing at a steady pace. Gives the rest of us some hope that there are opportunities outside of iStock exclusive.

Software / Re: Adobes Profit Falls 59 Percent !
« on: September 17, 2013, 18:59 »
I've spent so much money with upgrades over the years. I'm running CS5 and will hold out as long as possible or just look to other software (Phase One perhaps) before investing any more dollars in Adobe.

Wow - bizarre turn of events for SS. They must be expecting some sort of backlash with whatever they have up their sleeves otherwise why bother with a 90-day lock-in. I had the impression they were one of the safer places to upload to, as they dont actively distribute your work to multiple shady partner programs. I was considering uploading there, but in light of todays news, I think Ill hold off a little longer.

Taking my chances with fewer sales and higher commissions at Stocksy (50%) seems like a much more sane decision.

My thoughts exactly.

It's really sad when you can't trust some of the biggest and so-called best names out there to fairly compensate their contributors. Nasty!

Stocksy / Re: Stocksy - where are they?
« on: September 03, 2013, 11:42 »
Im still hopeful about Stocksy. Im glad to hear that there has been growth over the last 5 months. I like the positive attitude coming from the few who have posted here. After leaving iStock and now testing the waters with a personal site, I would be very interested in sending my best work to Stocksy. Gives me a solid reason to stay in this business and justify the time spent on new projects. Its also a no brainer for me as I am not actively involved with other sites at the moment and I like the idea of image exclusivity. Trying to make some long-term decisions. Thanks for sharing your experiences so far.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Are You Afraid?
« on: February 12, 2013, 15:16 »
I would be more afraid to keep submitting to iStock & Getty knowing that more of the same special "deals" may be in the works. I am getting out (Diamond/Exclusive). I am more afraid that I have wasted too much time not building skills in self-promotion and an income independent of iStock. What I am not afraid of though, is the new cool kid, "Stocksy". The tide is turning for creatives (hopefully) as we begin to demand fairer treatment and better returns and here comes Bruce with his new venture. He made it cool to be the underdog amongst the traditional closed-to-newcomers RF/RM stock world with the "designer's dirty little secret". Now that the majority of agencies keep stripping our rights and earnings with shady partner deals and promos, it's time for fair trade: 50% royalties and an artist owned co-op no less. It might take time for most customers to move to a new image library, but if anyone can pull this off, it would be Bruce and the hordes of us following him.  ;D
