I haven't tried editorial before but I imagine that if it is news worthy or relevant to trending news then it is useful.  However this might mean it might not be the cleanest of photos in terms of background clutter or technical quality. When people view my portfolio, will it be shown together with my creative photos? Thanks

Hi,

I posted about 10 photos in iStock in 2012/2013 and then I lost interest and stopped. I recently logged in again and I see I have earned about $9.50 (pretty pathetic I know).

Just wondering if there is a way I can see which photo sold previously and how many times? Now if I log into the ESP Getty site, it only gives me data from 2017 until now.

On another note, is there a way to see how many times other peoples photos got sold? I recall this used to be there but I guess maybe removed? I am just curious more for editorial photos because a lot of those seems very generic and very repetitive and so I am wondering if it is worth trying it too.

Thanks.

So here's where I am with all of this: I have contacted the three sites that sell this image and have gotten emails back from both SS & GL assuring me that no EL have been sold (on that topic, the customer service was great at both of these sites....).If the third site confirms I will consult with a lawyer who specializes in these things (I have one line up already). To answer a previous question, I'll be popping $100.00 up front for the consultation (this is why I want to make absolutely certain I didnt sell an EL of the image).  I also photo-documented the image for sale at Bed Bath and Beyond and I even (and I cant believe I did this) purchased one, just so I had more evidence (I've clearly watched too many Law and Order reruns). Interested in doing something that makes you sick? Pay $100 to purchase your own image! I'll keep everyone updated. Oh and on another note, the local Bed Bath and Beyond TV commercial welcoming students back to the university sowed my image!

Thank you so much for answering my question. I also wish you all the best in getting back what you deserve. Hope you could keep us updated all the way until the settlement (in case they force you to keep quiet about it afterwards).

Thanks.

Wow... buying your own image at $100... :) You're really going all out on this one... :)

And out of curiosity, how much would be the cheapest an attorney would talk to you and give advice?

You may want to talk to an attorney first like Ed Greenberg or Carolyn Wright. If you take the wrong steps you could compromise your ability to take legal action.

I can't +1 this comment enough.

Please, please, please, talk to an attorney before you contact the store.

I've always thought that.... but it seems that there is little we can do about it...

Just asking in advance because my acceptance ratio in iStock is only about 56%...
In the good old days when every pixel was scrutinised, that wasn't too bad for a beginner in the first week or two until they learned the ropes. (E.g. I had always been used to applying a lot of sharpening before printing on an inkjet, so it was part of my workflow; it took me a while to work out that's what was causing 'artefact' rejections.)

But if your rejection rate over the past maybe six weeks or so has been 56%, you really need to worry, and I'm guessing (from what I read here) you wouldn't get into SS at all.

Noted. Yeah I heard that the acceptance criteria for iStock is much lower now. I see where you're coming from so I'll just wait for the result and hope for the best. :) Personally I expect maybe 5/10 so I'll probably need to take some more photos to resubmit. :) Will update you guys when I get the results.

Actually, my problem is my extremely low production rate (I only submitted 18 photos in my whole year plus since being accepted into iStock in May 2012 and got 10 photos accepted). Based on this, I already know I'll never earn any money in this field... so its more like a learning experience for me... haha...

Thanks for the replies.

Actually I haven't gotten into Shutterstock yet... just submitted my first 10 photos on 48hrs ago... so still waiting.

Just asking in advance because my acceptance ratio in iStock is only about 56%... haha...

Hi,

Would like to know if there is any penalty at Shutterstock of any form (other than lost time), when you get your photos rejected often?

Thanks.

Hi,

Took some photos at a recent trip to Bangkok at the Grand Palace. Does anyone know if it needs Model Release to get accepted on IStock?

The place needs to pay entrance fee to get in to the Wat Phra Kaew (a royal temple in the Grand Palace grounds).

I see a lot of photos inside IStock of the exact same place, but I won't really know if they went to get a property release or not.

Thanks.

Slightly off topic, but does anyone know if there is anything similar at SS? (even if it is not Microsoft related)

With all the iStock problems, I was thinking of trying for SS as well (anyway I'm not exclusive), but it would be no point trying if SS is just as bad...

Shutterstock.com / Shutterstock Application
« on: January 07, 2013, 06:38 »
Hi,

Model Releases:
Would like to check whether model releases are really required for the application process as well? For istock, they don't care during the application stage when they are just checking your photo quality.

Property Releases
Similarly, what about property releases? Are they needed during application stage?

Thanks.

Shutterstock.com / Any refund policy similar to istock?
« on: November 29, 2012, 10:08 »
Hi, I'm only contributor at istock, so just curious if SS also have such lax refund policies as istock (e.g. people could just return photos months after downloading and the refund cost would be fully borne by the contributor)?

Thanks.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Stats haven't updated since Nov. 14th?
« on: November 29, 2012, 09:57 »
Sorry, by stats, do you guys also refer to VIEWS as well? Because although some of you have mentioned that stats has been fixed, but I have not gotten any changes in view numbers for the past month... and wonder if that is related (then again it could be because my photos are no good and my portfolio is small, but even my newly accepted photos are getting zero views for over a week (even when my referral links are recording quite a few of clicks and signups)).

Just wanted to check if anyone else had the same problem.

Thanks.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Why is iStockphoto tanking?
« on: November 23, 2012, 11:38 »
Has anyone mentioned the word "Refunds" yet? :p

(Just to bring it up again even if it was already discussed to death because it is a part of iStock which I can never understand and cannot agree with... Maybe "customers" using photos for free and then getting all their money back without being asked why MIGHT explain why the site is tanking???)
