Hello, StockSubmitter user here trying out Microstock.plus for the first time.  I have a video that I am trying to submit, got it all ready (love the web-based interface), but am having problems with the last step.  Once I selected to upload the video to my selected agencies, it goes into "Queued" status.  However, it has stayed that way for over 12 hours now, is there something that I am missing?  As far as I can tell, all of my agencies are setup correctly and the file is all ready.

Thanks,
Chris

General - Top Sites / Re: How Was Your October?
« on: November 08, 2017, 08:46 »
My 4th month into sell stock, my October was excellent with almost 250 downloads.  DT came in first, with SS and BS both performing nicely as well.  Sold lots of pumpkin pictures!  8)

More downloads in Sept over Aug, but only 75% of the revnue.  Was looking even worse until I had an Alamy sale on the last day of the month.

Your keywords need work.
I only looked at https://www.shutterstock.com/image-photo/sea-gull-watching-food-opportunities-while-677416906?src=MMp-NdcP4ynzloHbkXKd_w-1-24
You have called it a Sea Gull.  ::)

Thanks for the feedback Sue.  I had keywords for a sea gull that I copied for that image, but I should have obviously done some research to ensure I am starting with the correct type of gull.

Right now I am using the 'QuickMeta' tool in Stock Submitter, which seems to work ok for the most part, but isn't perfect.  Certainly something I need to work on getting better at, and I probably need to take more time to get this right so they so up in the searches as buyers would expect them.

If anyone has any other pointers to the best keywording workflow that would be great.

The reason why you're surprised is that you need to better understand what is commercial and what isn't.  Look at the ones that are selling and concentrate on uploading more of them from your existing inventory. On your new photo sessions spend the time producing more of these sellers but not copies- look for different settings or uses.  The majority of my best sellers aren't artsy due to having a lot of copyspace available.

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it.  Yes most of my images are tightly shot, so that is something I need to work on to allow for plenty of copyspace area to be available.

Photo Critique / Can I please get a portfolio review? Thanks!
« on: August 14, 2017, 13:50 »
Hello,

So I have had some images sitting out on ShutterStock and Alamy for a while, but didn't sell much at all because of the very limited volume of what I uploaded.

I have just started going through and uploading images that I have back in July, and now have about 1,000 uploaded.  My goal is to add a couple hundred more each month, between what I already have and new images I take.  For July to Mid-August, I've had about 100 downloads so far.

Most of my images are a combination of travel, family/kids and some news/events.  I haven't shot anything specifically for stock, but may try doing so shortly to improve my downloads.

Here are links to my portfolios:

Please let me know what you think.  I have been a little surprised at what sells and what doesn't so far.

Microstock Services / Re: Microstockr Iphone App crashing
« on: June 15, 2017, 11:51 »
I was having this problem when I had iStock/ESP setup (crashed the iPhone app, and would hang up the Desktop app on Windows).  I removed this and all was ok.  Now having the same issue again, must be another provider who made a change and broke the API from the app.  Issue appears to be with DreamsTime, try disabling that account for now.

Was also very impressed with this book as well, purchased a couple of days ago and have finished reading it cover-to-cover.  It immediately came across as very professionally put together and excellent visually.  Lots of great information packed into it, and I really enjoyed all of the examples and the case study.  Overall a must-read for anyone starting out, and I would imagine even a helpful resource for those that may have been doing stock for a while now.

9
It would be a free app for buyers to download and use, just like the ones that some of the Microstock sites have out there now.

I was just wondering if there would be any interest in an iPhone/iPad app for browsing and searching images on the SymbioStock network?

I have iOS development experience, and might be willing to develop this if there is enough interest.

11
This is interesting, if SY takes off for me, i might look into this when Bluehost expires.

I've found that the Mac has been a very reliable server, and pretty easy to administer.  Mac Stadium is an excellent host, have had no unscheduled downtime with them for 3+ years.  A dedicated server is probably not cost effective for just a SY site, but I use the server for some other larger websites, and for iOS development.

Site: http://stock.kelleherphoto.com
Host: MacStadium http://www.macstadium.com
Results: Symbiostock features work.
Info: Running Mac Mini dedicated server with Mac OS X 10.8.4 and Server 2.2.1.  No special settings or configuration needed.

13
Awesome!  Just had a quick look around but all of the pro features look wonderful and will come in very handy, I've been waiting for this!  The $75 is well worth it to me, and I think certainly more than fair for the amount of time that was spent on development of this plugin.

What version number are you installing? Have you tested with another browser just to rule out any weirdness there?

First install and currently running Symbiostock 2.5.5.

Upgraded Wordpress yesterday to 3.6 - the uploader worked before.

Now the uploader is not running on both Firefox and IE. Didn't test any other browsers.

Maybe I should run the new 2.5.6 Symbiostock update and see if it helps...?

Yours is all set now.

http://stock.kelleherphoto.com it would not let me delete the theme without asking me to provide passwords and such. But your using 2.5.5

If you like I can post my latest version which is a few versions beyond whats been pubilcally released (we are still making it look good) but if you don't mind waiting a bit longer you'll have the latest which is far more refined.

Thanks so much for your help.  I can wait for the latest version to be released.

PS - there's always FTP as well.

FTP didn't work for me with 2.5.6.  However, it does seem to work just fine now with 2.5.5 and WP 3.6.  So at least I have a workaround.

Same here, running 2.5.5 and the uploader was working.  When I tried to install 2.5.6 the uploader didn't work, so I went back to the older version.  Just installed Wordpress 3.6 and am now having the uploader issue again.

Tried deactivating and activating the theme, however this did not help.

Anything we can do to help debug?  I can post my phpinfo and sever details of that helps.

If you've done all the mentioned things and its still not working, then the new version of WP might be sabotaging the uploader. I know working on the premium version, 3.6 hijacked much of my javascript and I had to rewrite much of it.

Please feel free to set me up leo [at] symbiostock.com as an admin and I can look into it.

Leo,

I set you up as an admin, so whenever you have a moment to take a look that would be great.

Thanks!

Symbiostock - Hosting / Re: Bluehost site down way too often
« on: August 02, 2013, 10:34 »

So I don't think that you can just copy over the MySQL database.

Why not? That's what I was hoping, importing the tables into the new MySQL and then changing the access information in the wp-config.php. Well, and of course copying all files and folders to the new host.

Did you run into any problems with the installation routine of WP and SYS at GoDaddy?

This is the simplest way to move from one host to another with the least amount of work.  I've done this many times and can help out with any questions or issues.

Symbiostock - General / Re: My new SYS website
« on: August 02, 2013, 08:43 »
added you to the global search at http://symbiostock-search.com

however, I saw that all your images & descriptions are "stock image by..."

looks like you're not captioning before uploading?  adding iptc first saves you from having to add it multiple times for different agencies, etc.  more importantly, you're losing the benefits of SEO in sym by not having distinct titles and filenames

Thanks for  adding my site to your search engine, I appreciate it.

I just recently started selling stock, so I haven't been in the habit of adding the IPTC metadata to my images.  Right now I am going through the 250 odd images I have and adding detailed titles, descriptions and keywords.  I got through a number of them last night.

I plan on doing this directly in Aperture in the future to make the process easier.

20
I would like to know what some of the visual changes entailed might be.  However, I would be ready and willing to move forward as long as it is stable.

Alamy.com / Re: how long to have a reply from Alamy?

I've always gotten email replies from them very promptly.

Just wanted to thank everyone for their comments on this thread, as I just started selling on Alamy and was wondering what to sell there versus micro versus both.  Great suggestions!
