Dreamstime.com / Re: $100 payout minimum is a flat-out theft.
« on: March 07, 2024, 11:54 »
And this where the Microstock Forum has lost a lot of its usefulness. There was a time when top tier earnings ratings were legitimate. You can't tell me Stocksy or Self-Hosted are in the top four category. Where does Dreamstime actually rate? They were always in the top six when I first visited this site 10 years ago. If Dreamstime is actually sinking in ratings, there would be time for concern. Personally, Dreamstime and DepositPhotos are my top earners. Regardless, I agree with everyone else. Dreamstime has got to lower their minimum payout level if they don't want to deter contributors from staying on board or joining the agency.

Anyone was able to get payment sucessfully by now?
I received my payment today. Slower than usual but Depositphotos has never been a serious problem. I've been with them since 2012 and now receive 3-4 payments a year.

I can only recommend, stay away from all the sites that sell your content for pennies, or were custommers can even steal your content for free.
Which pretty well eliminates every stock site, doesn't it?

The change I noticed is that they absolutely will not accept AI images, and will close your account if you sneak any in.

The clause that Me thinks is about using our images for AI training looks more like protecting themselves.  If someone thinks their Depositphotos images have been used that way, they can't sue Depositphotos.  I don't think they intend to do it themselves, but are concerned by some of the lawsuits they have seen lately.

They also lowered the payout from $50 to $25 or was that just a special bonus for me? :)

It would really help if those small fish agencies would lower their payout threshold. It's 100$ at Dreamstime, it's 50$ for 123RF and DepositPhoto's.

I totally agree but in my particular case, DP reaches payout now before the SS. They are also a great starting point when submitting to multiple agencies.

To everyone in this forum regardless of how we're labelled:  "Russians", "Ukrainians", "American", "Germans", "Israeli", etc. we are all human beings. And we all, collectively, document this era during a very critical time. A group of human beings who describe and document this era with photographs and clips. You are all very special human beings, IMO.

If anyone is interested in reading a more pragmatic look at the facts surrounding JC there is a full edition in National Geographic entitled The Story of JC. The edition bases its findings on archaeological artifacts and written documentation from that era.

IMO, everyone in this forum are special people who document, in one form or another, the important era we live in when our little blue planet is in decline. Peace.

I'm still waiting for answers despite getting a PP email that I received payment that never arrived....Still showing $0.

Does it appear as On Hold? If so, the PP app has instructions to follow to release the money
No. It doesn't appear at all - anywhere despite notifying me that I had received payment when they emailed me.

Got an e-mail notification from PayPal that they received payment from Adobe.
Good to hear, Dragonblade! I hope that will be the last time you have to deal with PP problems! Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for answers despite getting a PP email that I received payment that never arrived....Still showing $0.

And I'm waiting for a Shutterstock payment that should have arrived last week. I've contacted PP's "help" center with no results. Keep us updated if it continues and I'll do the same! Very frustrating with Christmas just around the corner!

DepositPhotos / Re: How is DP for sales? (photos & vids)
« on: October 24, 2023, 11:11 »
or whether it would just be a time consuming task for a few dollars, etc...

DP would never be a time consuming task, as they are the agency with the easiest submitting process. Just hit upload and click submit. No stupid keyword sorting or highlighting, not even categories to select. Takes literally one second for a whole batch of content.
I couldn't agree more. DP is the easiest starting point for submitting to online agencies. Copy and paste your description and keywords when you're submitting to other agencies and streamline the ridiculous submission process. Personally, I've also found that DP sales increase when you're approaching pay-out.

This is a good discussion because there aren't any contributors
in the discussion that are saying forming a union is impossible
but we all acknowledge that it would be difficult. It's a positive discussion that draws the attention of the agencies because it confirms that we're fed-up with the way we're being treated and we're collectively looking at ways of changing the playing field.
Buying a current agency already set-up and online is an excellent starting point, IMO. A minor agency that's raising a small amount of money through sales but capitol nonetheless to keep OUR agency running while the portfolio grows and fewer and fewer contributors deal with the current online agencies.

14
There is no relationship with any agency. All agencies provide a platform to distribute your content and in exchange the platform gives you a small royalty and it's always on their terms. All agencies have a unilateral contract. We are all expendable. Those are the facts.
And the only way we can enjoy fair compensation for our work is to unionize. Period. Otherwise, online agencies will always be in control. Either you accept their terms and continue providing them with your images or you don't. That's the world we currently live in. We set-up our own agency and agree to providing OUR agency with images, clips and illustrations and no one else.

Pond5 / Re: Pond5 Sales slump.
« on: September 29, 2023, 06:30 »
I wish contributors would include submission format with their video sales comments. Does your collection comprise all/partly/completely of HD or 4K submissions? HD, IMO, is all but dead and it's up to you to invest in new equipment and start submitting 4K clips if you expect to "enjoy" success in a similar way that you did when HD was popular. Any comments that you're making regarding video sales with any stock agency is useless if we don't know what format your video submissions are comprised of, IMO. Thanks.

Off Topic / Re: This should settle some different opinions
« on: August 13, 2023, 14:42 »
This topic has nothing to do with the REAL war currently confronting ALL of us but it does emphasize the total stupidity and lack of true leadership our little blue planet needs. Rasputin, Bideless, Justin Tooslow, etc. It doesn't matter. This planet is dying while we, the people, elect clowns to carry on convincing the
masses that their actions are conducted to strengthen and protect the borders they live within. This is while the real enemy, climate change and global warming, is destroying our little blue planet.
We are documentarians. Our images present the stark truth. The reality of the era we live in and how our Clowns, with their focus on domination, ignores the true reality. Our planet is dying. The images we take are solid and indisputable. Let's hope our concerted effort will convince the masses before it's too late.

Dreamstime.com / Re: DT is a Nightmarestime
« on: August 05, 2023, 22:43 »
It is certain that as soon as I have my $100, I close my account.
You do your thing, I do mine. I've been with DT for more than a decade. The first agency I started submitting images to. Never slashing commissions. Always consistent sales and always part of the top MS agencies. And you're going to close your account because the payout is $100? Do you think somehow that's going to punish Dreamstime? At least they didn't try to manipulate you like the SS by lowering their payout and then lowering the commission.

An excellent technical discussion. Thanks for starting it dragonblade!

DepositPhotos / Re: Are they next?
« on: July 19, 2023, 14:11 »
      I hope you're wrong.
DepositPhotos has always been one of my best agencies as far as sales and a great starting point for launching submissions for other agencies. Month to month sales have often out preformed the BIG agencies and it's designed to make submitting quick and easy.
If I was to make predictions I'd say Bigstockphoto or Alamy....Success depends on your portfolio and in my case, DP buyers seem to gravitate to my broad selection of categories and themes.....

Shutterstock.com / Re: Shutterstock is an embarassment
« on: July 03, 2023, 12:49 »
People contribute to SS from all over the world, and in some low-wage countries, the revenue from SS is still enough to feed their families. So good luck convincing them to join your union.
Wow! A statement I can image the Boardroom Boys making when justifying cutting commissions by 80%: "Sure, we've got contributors who used their commissions to feed their families. They bought rice, vegetables and maybe even took their families out for dinner once in a while when sales were good...but they can still buy them rice."

IMO constant talk about how much less you're making isn't going to draw the attention of the Boardroom Boys. They couldn't give a flipping *. But sharing ideas about resolving the problem of low commissions may draw the attention of agencies.
Ok, a self-run contributor site isn't going to work, in your opinion. But an active, on-going conversation is far more effective than individual contributors complaining about the pennies their now making.
The Boardroom Boys figured as long as they can make their contributors roll over and rub their tummies they can do whatever they * well please. So far it's working, IMO.

The SS and their treatment of contributors is a prime example of how unions are born. It's no different than the "boardroom boys" of a company mulling over how they can squeeze their employees out of more money before the employees finally are fed up and unionize.
From my perspective that would entail contributors creating their own microstock site and contributors signing an agreement that this site would be the only one that they will contribute to.
It's a complicated scenario. How can the microstock group ensure that contributors are adhering to the agreement they signed and not continuing to feed the SS and other agencies with their images and clips using another erroneous name? And how can contributors initiate the site? Can enough money be raised to create and maintain the exclusive site? Will enough contributors sign up and build an agency that reaches the top 5?
50% for the contributor's exclusive agency and 50% of the buyer's money for the photographer/Videographer would be incentive to get things moving.
The SS boardroom boys and their trained monkeys. How can we, as photographers and videographers, change the current industry standards? Unionization. IMO.
I am not someone who has ever depended on commissions. I'm concerned about the contributors who used their earnings to
feed their families. In the pre-SS days when commissions were a
lot higher, the money was a part of the essential need for those of
us who really depended on commissions to move forward. Those are the people I think most about and why I feel the SS and other agencies are immoral and corrupt.

My bird feeders are full but the birds still haven't discovered them :( And just like Mimi the Cat it's freezing cold and the snow is piling up! I'm thinking of setting up a sign beside the bird feeders: "Welcome to Asthebelltoll's Diner"! ;D
