Pond5 / Re: POND 5 - Earnings?
« on: June 18, 2014, 03:00 »
The main customer base from Pond5 is in the USA. Possibly related, they seem to be usually hit more with the 'summer slowdown' than some other sites.

At the same time, I don't think anyone can really expect consistency in sales there with videos until you have at least 1,000 clips online. And as pkphotos mentioned, consistency in sales is helped a lot if you can find a few niches in the market for yourself.

I have progressively stopped uploading to some different agencies. Would really have to annoy me or screw me over to actually drop any of them completely.

I would gladly take some up and down periods there. It's all down for me. Suffering a long, slow and painful death.

Mainly a footage contributor, but this is mine:

Pond5: 100%
SS: 81%
iStock: 15%
Everyone else together: 6%

in fact my question is also based on that poll results....iv heard so much about people declining fotolia and istock! and those two are on the top four, thing i dont understand much...what would you peeps advice??

They still sell well compared to most other sites, but the stem of the complaints is how badly they treat contributors.

I'm indie, and my sales have plummeted. So I definitely don't feel favored in any kind of match.  ;)

Same here.

The poll results on the right are always a great indication of where it is worth uploading to. Start at the top and work your way down. Also depends whether you are concerned with getting a fair cut of each sale or not.

I missed the manual! I thought it was as intuitive as other sites. It's iStock so that's expected I guess.

Thanks for pointing that out.

Been there done that. Learnt long ago that iStock isn't an intuitive process.

June came and everything shut off for me. May was a good month.

Is it that P5 doesn't get much traffic to buy photos, or what?  Those that are happy with P5, are any of you selling just stills and not footage?

Video sales at P5 are very good. Very rare to sell a photo though. I was hoping after they bought pixmac it would help P5 photo sales, but it doesn't seem to have made a difference.

That's mainly why I haven't uploaded any of my video there. Pay is too low for full hd and by the way it's another site that by these special deals is further cheapening the visual creativity market.

I've stopped uploaded new clips there. Have considered deactivating my account, but not sure about that yet.

I've had sales where I get as little as $11.10 off a full HD sale Which even using their cheapest bulk credit rates was way lower than my cut should have been. Contacting support each time just gets me a 'we give out special discounts to some buyers' answer in various forms.
