Software / Re: Xpiks - open source software for microstocker
« on: March 04, 2024, 18:17 »
Xpiks stops servicing customers from Russian Federation and Belarus until further notice because of the Russian war in Ukraine.
Man that's odd! I'm not Russian but I'm not responsible for the politics of my government same goes for Russians! I was close to buy a license because I was interested in the AI plugin wasn't sure if it's worth the price so I did some research and I have found this thread. Sorry politics and stock photography does nothing have in common I abstain!

I have been with Canstockphoto since 2005-06. I'm really sorry to see it close.

That said, the deadline that was given for submitting a final payment request ended up in my server's spam folder and as a result I never saw it. I randomly found out the news after trying to log in to the site.

I haven't been submitting new content for many years, however also for many years I have been gathering royalties within the site instead of pulling it out. Several times I converted royalties to credits to acquire images for some of my projects. Unfortunately, my remaining royalty balance was well over $1000, which to my understanding Canstock will refuse to pay me. I have emailed them about it and I await their reply.

Leaving that money for a long time within Canstock was surely to Canstock's benefit, and now it feels bad that I am going to be "punished" for doing that. The fact that the email ended up on my server's spam folder is just what happened to me. I could instead be laying sick in bed, be dealing with a personal tragedy, or anything else someone who doesn't log into the website often, be dealing with that would deprive them of the "request what you are owed now or lose it" period. How fair does it sound to deprive someone of what they are owed?  If it was me, I would simply pay up all royalties to all accounts that have already provided me with their payment info in the past since this is money that doesn't really belong to me.

I'd love to hear other people's thoughts on that.

Thanks!

Konstantinos
Did they reply? I have only noticed this now, email must've gone to spam folder. No idea what my balance was, can't remember the last time I withdrew from them. Doesn't seem that this can be legal? They have my PayPal details, no reason why they couldn't just send the money, other than it gives them a nice bonus when they close down at short notice?
same happened to me, I cant check such old Emails regulary. I guess I missing out about 250 but that is just a guess,

Adobe Stock / Re: This year CC Bonus codes program?
« on: December 17, 2022, 02:45 »
So it's back to Photoshop CS6 for me it seems....! I use Photoshop way too rarely to justify a subscription most stuff I do directly in my favorite image browser (which is not Lightroom btw). I have this old paid Photoshop version and the retouching features are basically still the same, the only thing I need from Photoshop from time to time.

Easy way to delete portfolio? Do I have to write support and does this work?

Only just noticed this and not received an email at all.

How can i easily change 1190 pages of images to premium not plus?

All i can see is "select all" which does 20 images at a time so that process would take me hours or days.  Is there a better select all?
I have the same problem If there is no easy solution I will delete my Portfolio!

I don't think the Freepik concept will work, people will come for the free stuff for a very long time without buying anything as soon you remove the free section they will gone. The agency will lower the royalties for the images till something very close to zero! I think 100,-$ treshold is chosen to save the agency from a too soon bankrupt, some will reach 100,- even several times but a lot will never meet 100,-$.
The agency sits in Spain what about an Interview?

His content is in ADOBE too now.
https://stock.adobe.com/contributor/210716081/peopleimages-com?as_campaign=ftmigration2&as_channel=dpcft&as_campclass=brand&as_source=ft_web&as_camptype=acquisition&as_audience=users&as_content=closure_contributor-page

I wonder what his reasoning was for abandoning exclusivity:

1- Did not reach for the first time the 45% target
2- Sees no future for Getty. A company with a huge debt. Going to the stock market might give them a break but their financial health is really bad
3- sees that with the demise of SS and Oringer selling everyday his stock Adobe is beggining to look as the main player in 3-5 years. Getty and SS will be very far behind

Whatever the reason, there was a time he gave his explanations to the stock community. i wonder if this will be again the case or if he will remain silent. I wonder if we will see his portfolio at Shutterstock?

I wonder about that too, he misses not only iStock-sales but Getty's too which still can be very good.
That would be great if he doesn't join SS again, but I think he will.
I don't think he can make up the loss he is facing in leaving iStock-exclusivity. But we will never know only if he is back at IS exclusivity in a year so. Lol:)

You are correct, and he owns the building.

From a purely architectural pow, this building looks more like a tile store than a photographer's studio to me.

If you look at the studio from inside you might get why:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYkNKP96b84

It's actually really neat. A stock photographers studio, where you need certain settings like office, home, kitchen, etc. has very different requiremenets than a traditional photo studio where almost all you need is good light and different floors and backgrounds on a roll.
It was ages ago. He hasn't been using fake environments since long time ago.

Then I really don't know what for he is using that big ass studio in Cape Tow, that was finished in 2017, according to his blog.
Which, by the way looks pretty much like fake environments to me, you can look at the photos on Google maps,
Fake living room, fake office, oh, there is even a fake beach!

I don't knwo whether Yuri personally uses them, but his current studio, the buidling that was shown above in the photo, has them for sure.
some photos on Google maps doesn't show his studio they are location shots from a production by him that someone uploaded to Google Maps but they are unrelated to his studio space.

This was his old studio in Denmark (a former greenhouse)

Interesting but strange he starts with Dreamstime....

Best thread in a long time thank you very much pacesetter ;D ;D

Looks like iStock has a new model release that does not require a witness signature.
The policy of agencies in the past has been to accept model releases from other agencies.
I wonder if AS, SS etc. will accept the new "witness not required" release from Getty/iStock?

Also, will the other agencies drop "witnesses" from their future release requirements?
to my knowledge AS has always accepted without witness but I didn't try for years It may have changed

Thanks Pete! Only for me normally I use my desktop but sometimes outside I would like to use the laptop (on which I still CS6 though)

Thanks a lot, can I install on my desktop and laptop or only on one computer?

Stocksy / Re: Stocksy
« on: February 01, 2022, 06:26 »
You will not see those lousy pics with a smart phone and some logo etc. at Stocksy. Without a doubt you can find excellent quality at Micro but they are getting more and more buried under that huge pile of garbage that the Micros swallow day by day. Sometimes you can find content to a subject that is similar in quality at Micros but lots of the content at Stocksy is simply at another level if you can't see it you shouldn't apply!

Canon / Re: Last Canon DSLR?
« on: January 25, 2022, 13:50 »
Pentax it's the brand that i use
It seems that Pentax sticks with DLSR

Although Pentax has no camera that can compete with the 1DX (or Nikon D6)
but they have the 645z excellent tool they can't compete with AF but easily beats the two in image details

Shutterstock.com / Re: Drop in sales - is it only me?...
« on: January 23, 2022, 13:38 »
The most important point to remember with Shutterstock is that Jon Oringer and his side kick Stan Pavlovsky are ripping you off.

Whatever you are making, they are stealing a vast amount more than you are getting in cash.

Just like with every other company in the world?
no Stocksy is different and Adobe has to care for photographers to some extent because they are one of their main customers especially if they don't do any stock but a further devaluing of pictures is something no photographer wanna see

Oh wow how many pictures do you have with them and do you have these sales regularly? Once I had also sales in this range but this is years ago. Not worth my time anymore!

General Stock Discussion / 500px huge sales potential ;)
« on: January 07, 2022, 02:13 »
Wow after two years I've made a sale at 500px again this time a whopping 6 Cent lol. This agency is such a joke!

In Microstock I will concentrate on Adobe the upload process with automated keywording is really good and Adobe seems to be a lot fairer as SS. The others with exception of SS are really not worth the effort anymore.
But most effort I will put in Stocksy and Arcangel I'm really tired of the low prices at Microstock my goal for 2022 is to get an additional 1000 images accepted at those two sites.
