Shutterstock.com / Re: How I got from 400 sales a day to 130
« on: April 07, 2020, 16:50 »
I've been a contributor for 12 years now. I do it full time and upload quality photos and illustrations.

In the peak time (2016) I used to have 400 downloads a day on Shutterstock. A year ago I was happy with 200-250 downloads. These days I am getting about 130 downloads a day. DESPITE regular uploads.

I am aware of the Covid19 situation, but how is it possible the downfall is strong ? On the contrary I am getting record sales on Adobe.

Has Shutterstock fell so much for you as well ?

PS: my username was created some years ago, it's meaning may no longer be true :)

wooowww 400 dl in one day, man, you must be so rich... 130 dl in one day is ten times more than my sales, even in this state, you have very good sales. enjoy with it.
He can't enjoy with 130dl a day because he constantly reminds himself about 400dl/d :) That's in human nature. Beside, imagine how much hard work is behind it. It didn't just fall down from the sky. And seeing that your hard work is not rewarded anymore is just adding to not being happy. But, you are right, despite all that he should be happy! Those are still good numbers!

I am same with you, 130 dl in one day is really great success these days, yes, BELIEVEME...GREAT!!!!!

Your precious works and labors are sold at much lower price than real price with strange and ridiculous methods like elements, and you let it happen by eye. Congratulations on your ignorance.

Same applies for lots of professions, I believe.
There will always be extra succesful people and a crowd of "ordinary" ones.
So what?

:)

dude, that guy has incredible income, I made a rough calculation, that guy(s) has almost $100.000 one week income, and being able to do this with just one product is another important thing. thas guy must belongs "very insane most powerfull unusual superhuman extraordinary succesful people " classification.

I'm no expert but I suppose making a theme requires at least a handful of coding and if I wanted to do coding in my life making themes would be the last thing I want code on my list, long below mobile apps and games in this moment.

believe me dude, website coding is much more easy from game or software coding.

I am stock photo contributor for about 10 years, as everyone know, the microstock industry grown up every year but small contributor earnings decrease day by day because of the microstock sale sites are in the race of selling our efforts a little more price than free.. while we complain that our earnings are getting closer to zero, something else is happening somewhere.

https://themeforest.net/item/avada-responsive-multipurpose-theme/2833226?s_rank=1

check that link and you see how strange it is, one wordpress template has sold more than $25 million in 8 years.  :o
when I think to myself, it seems like it is not possible to understand this.

congrats Shutterstock, it's nice to finally be able to realize something after so long time. but... what about duplicated pictures were accepted for 15 years?

9
I see credit sales of istock is increasing month by month and subscription sales decreasing also... what is that mean? Could there be any good changes in the future?

BTW, my last mont sales almost 20% up compared to last month, but this does not change the fact that it has decreased by 92% compared to sales three years ago  :( (Of course I was exclusive at that time which is another point of view.)

10
Did you fill in your foreign tax ID number? If you don't then they accept you're from the country you say you are... but still charge you 30% on US sales, but if you do, then they apply the reduced rate to US sales as well.

I will check it, thanks...

11
30% tax is so much fee, isnt it?

Yeah, mine is 5%.

"Different countries have different tax withholding rates for royalty payments."

https://submit.shutterstock.com/legal/taxes/treaty_countries

this is very nice point, according to the list on the link you give, I have to pay 10% tax. why does videohive cut taxes by 30%?

12
yes, I already submitted and approved tax form, I wonder, what is your current tax witholding fee? is mine so much?

it says on help page that
"Accordingly, if you are a non-U.S. person, your sales to US buyers may be subject to royalty withholding tax of up to 30%."

30% tax is so much fee, isnt it?

13
you right but there have no description while set up price on upload page for author fee and extra taxes except small amount of buyer fee, right?

I m from somewhere on europe, is it affect earnings?

14
it is your own fault even uploading clips there.

why do you cost me the problem right now? Do not be so hasty in answering, you have to think about the subject first. do you think the whole problem is on me? Do you explain this with more detail? if there is a place where higher commission and more sales can be made that am I not informed, I would like to find out.

15
nearly a video was sold at videohive...

look at statement... video sale price: $12

cuts on wages:
buyer fee: $3
author fee: $4.95
US Royalty Withholding Tax: $2.70
total cut: $10.65

It's only $1.35 left over from a $ 12 video sale.

this is not fair, would you tell me, what kind of justice is that we live? I am very sick of these kind of absurd conditions on microstock industry anymore, really, I am tired of seeing this kind of b....ts anymore.

I believe you can only get content into Getty if you are exclusive at iS. Were you exclusive at iS when you submitted your 8000 images?

I dont know that, they are constantly changing everything and very quickly,
almost half of my portfolio is signature now.

50 videos is not enough to have any kind of constant downloads.

thats all, ok..

Of course the other issue with going exclusive at iS nowadays is that your portfolio will be selling at a significantly lower price point than if you had submitted all your content as an exlcusive (I forgot what the ratio is). I forget the different collections and price points for non-ex vs. ex. submitted content.
On iS, indie content is 1 credit and exclusive content is 3 credits. All content is in premium access, no idea how the pricing there works; only some exclusive content goes to Getty.

btw, my only one image on sale in getty, can you think what starange it is, I have almost 8k images on istock but only one of them is on sale in getty   :o

sales have been going very bad recently, although I am constantly uploading new images, sales are constantly getting lower, I can not prevent the decline trend, over the last year, total earnings have decreased by half. The money I earn from istock is 20-25% of my total earnings. I am really in search of different jobs, different incomes other than microstock currently...

I want to try istuck exclusivity with staying much longer but there have some problems, dreamstime does not allow you to delete portfolio immediately, now if you decide to get istock exclusivity, at least you must wait 6 month because of dreamstime... I have about 8k pictures on sale with 8 different agencies, If istuck exclusivity can not reach the result I expected, re uploading the portfolio to the other 7 sites will be a great torture.

I ve tried that with reversed :D

I ve tried to get in exclusive to Isuck almost one year before, my revenue down 40% almost, so if you give up isuck exclusivity, your income seems to increase by around 50% I think.

So your income increased by 50% since you left exclusivity?

yes. but I could not wait long, I only stayed in exclusivity for 1 month and I left immediately due to I could not reach the performance I expected, maybe if I stayed a few months on exclusivity, some things could change. I dont know.

I have about 50 HD videos that about technology and abstract e.g. on top tier microstock sites but ther have no sales for a while, about 6 month there have no sales at all, it seems video sales has stopped... Why shuttestock, adobe, istock, pond5, dreamstime, and other sites cannot sell videos anymore? (at least mine...) Is there another place to sale video that I do not know or are there some changes that I have not noticed yet?

I am on the same situation, it's not just shutterstock, it's everywhere like this, I dont understand why new images doesnt sell, it seems we are struggling for nothing after a point, I am not aware of this situation at all, the files I uploaded a few years ago are being sold, but there is no activity on the newly uploaded files.
